Turnpike Shares Noise Impact Analysis Report with Community T he Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) is pleased to an- nounce the availability of the Noise Impact Analysis Report for the Northeastern Extension Total Reconstruction and Widening Proj- ect from the Mid-County Interchange to the Lansdale Interchange, Milepost A20 to Milepost A30. This report describes the methodology noise study conducted for the full-depth reconstruction project encompassing a 10.5-mile section of the Northeastern Ex- tension in Montgom- ery County. The purpose of the was to determine if project-related noise impacts will occur and whether noise abatement for affect- ed areas in the form of noise barriers or other mitigation mea- sures would be war- ranted, feasible and reasonable based upon Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) criteria as utilized by the PTC. In mid-January 2011, due to severe weather conditions work on the Turnpike's Morris Road Bridge project was temporarily suspended. At this time, the project completion date has been extended to mid-May. In order to proceed with the project and re-open Morris Road to traffic, the contractor needs consistent temperatures above freezing (best scenario 40 degrees and above) and dry roadway conditions. Unfortunately, even if the snow melts and temperatures rise, this only leads to a period when conditions in the project area will be wet and muddy making it difficult to resume work in unpaved areas. When the contractor resumes work he anticipates the work required to tie the new bridge to the existing roadway: placement of soil, graded aggregate, concrete curbs, guiderail, blacktop paving and pavement markings will take approximately 3-4 weeks. All other work adjacent to the bridge, seeding and grading for example, and work necessary to fulfill the permit requirements along the detour route, can be done once traffic is restored on Morris Road and the detour lifted.
