Horizon 2020 three main pillars:
excellent science to strengthen theEU’s world-class scientific excellenceand make the research and innovationsystem more competitive,
fostering industrial leadership to speedup the development of technologiesthat will support businesses andinnovation,
tackling societal challenges to respondto the priorities identified in the Europe2020 strategy.
Horizon 2020

Thematic calls (societal challenges)
Open, bottom-up calls for all thematic areas (excellent science, i.e. ERC)
Short- and long-term mobility of researchers both ways (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions scheme)
Training, exchange and networking(MSCA: ITN – International Training Networks, RISE – Research and Innovation Staffexchange etc.)
Horizon 2020
9Dr Katrin Bergener | Dr Roman Walega | WWU Centre for Europe | WWU Research Alumni Meeting ~ hEUrizon Brazil | Sao Paulo | 9th October 2018 |
The future: Horizon Europe (2021 – 2027)
10
Overview funding Brazilian participants (individual researchers and/or institutions) can join projects in any area
Individual Brazilian researchers are always eligible for EU funding under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – Individual Fellowships and under the European Research Council programme.
For collaborative actions, Horizon 2020 does not automatically fund Brazilian participants (with some exceptions i.e. All Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance Flagship )
Brazilian participants have to determine themselves the sources of funding for their part of the project
Different funding schemes for allowing Brazilian researchers to take part into Horizon 2020 are set up in different Brazilian states through the existing Research Foundations (detailed list in annex)
Contributions can also be made in kind
