OPIE self portrait assessment
1. Which tools did you use to complete the task and
describe how you used them to complete your self-
portrait?
The tools that I used to complete my self portrait was the
magnetic lasso tool which allowed me to copy a section from
my face or hair onto a new layer by doing this allowed me to
change my hair or face to look more like a cartoon. Other tools
that I used included the paintbrush, paint fill, shape button and
the paintbrush. I found all these tolls easy and straightforward
to use.
2. Were there any parts of the task/specific tools which
you found difficult and if so, what were they and why?
I found the tools very easy to use if anything I could say
the magnetic lasso toll was a bit fiddly to use. If anything
the only thing that I found the most difficult was to get the
individual bits into their own separate layers. The reason as
to why I found this hardest bit to achieve was the fact that I
had never used Photoshop before and I am also not used
to the I Mac’s that I am using for this course.
3. Finally, how successful were you in completing the given
brief and what improvements would you make next time.
Despite those difficulties I had during this task I am very
pleased with how my OPIE self-portrait turned out when it was
completed. If there was anything that I would improve it would
to not rush as my hair didn’t turn out how I wanted it to, but
also I would to make sure that my hair overlaps my face so
when I use the magnetic lasso tool as when I create a new layer
I had white gaps between my face and hair which I had to fill in
using the paint brush.
