Flight Control No Dispatch Best Practices Service News Letter (SNL)
Embraer developed the SNL170-27-0061 and SNL190-27-0057 that bring
a compilation o the best practices with
the purpose o helping the operators
to troubleshoot the Flight Controls No
Dispatch (FCND) ailures. These practices
have been identiied during FCND Tiger
Team meetings and were complemented
with good maintenance practices shared
by operators over the time.
The document is divided in sections thatconsist o, among others, troubleshooting
tips, reset guidelines, health monitoring
basics and a list o FIM tasks that were
revised due to Tiger Team workshop.
These practices have proved to be helpul or
operators to identiy and reduce repeaters
aircraf, speed up troubleshooting, build a
conident database with FCND ailures that
helps troubleshooters on similar situationswith the purpose o dropping FCND ailure
rate (delays and cancellations).
Furthermore, the FCND Tiger Team hasstudied the perormance o several
operators with low and high FCND
rates and has determined a correlation
between reset and FCND ailure rate.

The autobrake system provides automaticbraking at maximum deceleration rates. It
controls hydraulic pressure to the brakes
and provides a constant deceleration rate.
Four autobrake levels (LO, MED, HI and
RTO) are available via a selector knob on
the cockpit main instrument panel. The
aural message AUTOBRAKE is enabled
when the selected level is disarmed by the
autobrake module (ABM) or brake control
module (BCM) ailure during parking,
taxiing, takeoff roll or landing.

No More Auto Brake SpuriousWarnings on Load 25.1
Every autobrake system ailure is displayedon the EICAS through the AUTOBRAKE FAIL
message. However, Embraer customers have
reported spurious auto brake aural warning
during take-off, which increases the pilot
workload.
Afer investigating this issue, ABM PN 142-
071171was introduced in 2008 as an interim
action to address 70% o the events. The
inal solution was released in 2011 through
Honeywell load version 25.1. Two years afer
the implementation, the effectivenessanalysis showed no pilot reports o
spurious auto brake aural warning during
take-off and the solution was considered
effective.

As inormed in the Technical Workshop during theEOC Rio 2013, corrupted DPRAM data in one FADECchannel could initiate uel shutoff request, causingengine shutdown.
FADEC V5.42 sofware brings a modiied DPRAMdata corruption ault logic and thrust controlmalunction (TCM) shutdown logic, so that crosschannel shall no longer command uel shutoff inthe standby channel.

There are some cases where a good pictureworths more than a thousand words and
more than the need to understand hard
technical drawings.
This Service Newsletter which is an Embraer

draf to some operators and those rapidly
requested Embraer to make it official by
means o a SNL.

MRB process achievements in 2013
In this edition the Focus Onhas the main goal to dividewith the readers the excellentresults reached during theE-Jets MRB process over 2013.Trough established partnershipwith Airlines to send and/orauthorization o inormationacquisition arising rom thescheduled maintenanceinspections, participation andvalidation o technical proposalduring Working Groups, it waspossible the progress o E-JetsEscalation Project and publishingo Temporary Revision aiming
to make easy the scheduledmaintenance and consequently, reducing cost.
Technical Proposal or E-Jets
MRB Optimization
Altogether were presented more than 500
technical proposals addressing the interval
optimization o the Basic 1 maintenancepackage rom 6,000 FH to 7,500 FH and Basic
2 rom 12,000 FH to 15,000 FH where it was
considered system section, structural and
zonal tasks. Other tasks were addressed
and through the data collected rom ield
with the reliability analysis was possible
to get an approval with ANAC (Primary
Authority) and authorities (FAA/EAS/TCCA)
temporary revision to rise complex tasks
intervals as Horizontal Stabilizer Backlash,
inspection o control cables in uselagearea and other tasks that presented high
accomplishment cost.
Another important point to be considered
to 2013 was the presentation o more
than 10,000 pages o technical subsidies
related to statistical and reliability analysis
to determine the new interval 25% higher
than the actual one or the deinition
o optimal interval based on ield data
analysis (scheduled and non scheduled
maintenance).
In summary, we had over this year, meetingo optimizing structures / zonal, twogeneral optimization meetings, whereit was discussed proposals or systems, structures, zonal and ISC (Industry SteeringCommittee) in early November where alltechnical proposals that were approved bythe Working Groups had a second approvaland will be submitted or inal approvalby the authorities in the event calledMRB meeting, which will take place in theweek o 20th to 24th January 2014 andwill involve the authorities and operatorsrepresentatives(ISC and WG Co-chairman).Other two technical events and ISC realizedduring 2012 (Structural / Zonal WorkingGroups and General Working Group) hadtechnical proposals approved and will besubmitted to MRB meeting in January 2014.
As additional results we had had approvals
by the technical Working Group and ISC o
rising interval to some tasks rom the INT
package that stayed out o phase afer the
irst part o the optimization project o this
package during 2010 and 2011.

Achieved Results during 2013
The ollowing results were achieved during
the Working Groups and approved in the
ISC meeting perormed in 2012 and 7th
and 8th o November 2013 and will be
submitted to authorities approval.
MRB PROCESS ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2013
As shown in the graphics below, the next MRB 170/175 revision(rev 9) and MRB 190/195 (rev7) will bring partial resultson E-Jets escalation projectsBasic 1 as to Basic 2 foreseento April 2014.
It is important to highlight the result obtained
with the evolution o structural program
and CPCP in 2013 where harmonization
between 170 and 190 programs and
the deinition o optimal intervals were
discussed and agreed in the Working
Groups ensuring continued airworthiness
with low maintenance costs. It is hoped,
through the new structural program which
will be partially available in April 2014, that
E-Jets operators realize how much the plan
is improved. However, completion o BASIC
1 project and also the review o structures
will occur until mid-2014.

MRB PROCESS ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2013
Next Steps in 2014
The next year, will be no different o 2013 and will have great
challenges both rom the point o view o continuity o ield
data collection as the participation o business areas or the
validation and approval o technical proposals to complete
the escalation o BASIC 1 in June 2014, and BASIC 2 in
December 2014.
It is planned or the middle o next year to issue a temporary
revision addressing technical proposals approved during the
Working Groups and ISC in the irst hal o 2014 and another
ull review o MRB 170/175 (rev 10) and MRB 190/195 (rev 8)
contemplating the escalation intervals BASIC 2 in January
2014.
We would like to thank all operators and authorities that
have participated in this milestone providing the E-Jets with
optimized intervals and seize the opportunity to wish you allhappy holidays and a great new year ull o happiness and
achievements.

Last November, British Airways decorated one of their E-190s with a giant moustache. This is a joint action with London City Airportto support the charity campaign called Movember. Movember (a merged word of mustache and november) is an annual, month-longevent that encourages men to grow their moustaches as a way of raising the awareness of prostate cancer and other male cancer andassociated charities. Passengers could take photographs of the giant moustache in exchange of a donation. Passengers were also invi-ted to share photos and their own Movember efforts online, with prizes available to thank them for their donation. The results are great.
In 2012, British Airways raised 80,000 worldwide for the Movember campaign. Source: BA Cityflyer
