SECTION I - GENERAL DESCRIPTION

H . GENERAL These CM AlRSTAR & All HoisIS are prec'Soon built chain Iype hoislS whK:t1ate buill in thfHcap'cit)' SIZes: 1. 2 . and 3 Ion. AI model' use coil type load d'IaJn and have penclanllhronle conltols. Thefe are model varia· lions wllh hook or lug Iype suspensions. Hoists are also proviOed In sparll resrSlant modeb and corrosion res~lanl model'. (Nole: Sparll resiSlant models have capacity ral' Ings lower than standard models.)

1-2. BASIC CONSTRUCTION. All SiZes and model. 01 these CM AIRSTAR 6 Air HoislS are of lhe same basic: design, having many oommon and inl8fChanpeable pans. They consrst pnmanIy of an aIurTw1um alloy flame and gearc.as.e COV8f

whd1 houses an alllomalic load !)rake and gN/' tram. An Ill/' moIor is mounled on the rear 01 the frame. An uwew hook or lug bnw:kel for suspending lhe hoisl is altached to the lop oIlheframe. An alloysleel coil load chIIln With lower block assembly is employed 10 rarse and lower loads. Upper afld lower lImits of hook Iravel Ire limited by chain mounled limit aClualOl'$. Hoist operatIon Is controlled by a pendanlthrottle con trol assembly.

1·3. DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MODELS AND SIZES. The main dillerences between hoist mocIels are In lhe reeving 01 the 1000d c hain and the suspension employed. These ate described In Paragraphs a and b, below.

a. On Stilndard t ton capacIty holliS, the load chain is single rfleYed (one part 01 chain): on standard 2 Ion c.aPICllles, lhe cham Is double reeved (IWO parts 01 chaln~ on Slandard3loncapaclties, the chaIn is triple reeved (Ihree parts 01 chain). CoIl type chain Is fu ll. Ue~lng. electric welded, Unk chain: carburlzed steel on standard and corrosion flsis tant models and stain· lass steel on spark resistant models. Both types are especlatl~designed lor use In nolsl lng afld have spe· clal calibrated pitch. (HOle: On corrosion resIstant mooels. the load chain Is zinc plated.)

b. Suspension differences include a convenlJOnlI hook type mcx."Itll'lg and a lug type mounltng. Hook susperIIIOO allows portabitity pemtitung hotsiiO be easily moved from JOb to joO. Lug susplnSlOl'l permits holst to be ngodIy mounled to overhead structure or attached 10 CM Rigid Mount Trolleys, affording un''Sual headroom advantage.

1-4. OVERLOAD CLUTCH. eM AIRSTAR 6 Air Hoists are eqUIPped WIth an overload clutch that Is designed to help guurd against e~cessive overloads. The clutch Is buill Into the load brake gear. It is a cone·friction CtutCh that con· nects the lirst recluctl()fl gear (load brake gear) to tha load brake OUtput PInion shaft. A belleville dISC spring provides dutch pressure beIween the gear and its cone shaped gear cent.,. An eXCA$S"Ie 0YerbacI causes lhe load brake gear to rotale Wllhout lurnng the gear CIflIIf and output ~ snatt The clutch IS located betweeo the load bralle and the motor, thus allowIng load brake to luroction in 115 r ..... ,,1I1 manner. See Paragraph 3·5 for operation.

SECTtON II - INSTAlLATION

2-1. GENERAL CM AIRSTAR 6 A1f HoISts are completely lubricated and load tested before bemg shipped from tha factory. The hoist is shipped with pendant handle and toe Ie assembly packed loose in the shlpptOg carton. See Paragraph 2-2.e lor attachment. To place hoisl In service, altach to a suitable overhead suspension (Paragraph 2·2) 11'1

area to be used: perform pre-installation check (Paragraph 2-3): aod connect holst to air service (Paragraph 2-4).

2·2. SUSPENDING HOIST.

a. On hook suspended hoists. selec t a suitable over· head support in area hoist Is 10 be used (one cap. able 01 holding combined weight 01 hoist anet Its capacily load) anet hang hoist up. In some cases, II ma~ be necessary to IIrst remove spring latch belore hook will Iii over a support. ReinSla1l latch aHer hook Is engaged.

b. On lug suspended hoists, selecl a sUItable overhead support in area hoist is to be used (one capable 01 holdIng combined weight of hoist and its capacity Ioadl. Mount hoISllJSing through bolts 01 appropriall size to lit mounting heir 5 in suspension lug II lop 01 hoisls. (See table below.) Use only suspension bolts provided by CM.

The struClure used 10 suspend holst must be 01 su ff icIent tl rength to wlthsland reasonable forces to whIch hOitl and support ma~ be subjected. Hois t must be aligned with load to avoid side pylls.
