Select min, for vacuuming light weightitems such as rugs or curtains.

Adjusting the suction(depending on model)

Some models have an adjustable suc-tion control that allows you to optimizethe vacuum’s performance to meet dif-ferent cleaning needs. The suction canbe adjusted to the amount of dirt andthe type of material that will be vacu-umed.Light weight items such as throw rugsor curtains can be vacuumed at a lowersuction level to prevent them from be-ing damaged, while carpets or heavymats can be vacuumed at the highestsetting in order to remove deep seateddirt. The highest setting should also beused if a Turbobrush is connected tothe vacuum.

There is a non-skid rubber bumper onthe handle of the vacuum. This allows the vacuum to be leanedupright against a wall if desired.

Before leaving the vacuum makesure it is turned off and leaningagainst the wall at a safe angle.

To protect the bristle rings on the floorbrush, we suggest hanging the vacuumon a wall hook by using the hole lo-cated on the bottom of the handle.

For longer term storage, the vacuumcan be hung on a wall hook from thehole located on the bottom of the han-dle.

,Turn off and unplug the vacuumbefore performing any maintenancework.

The Miele Filtering System consists ofthe following three components.

a Double layered dustbag

b Dust compartment filter (for motorprotection)

c Exhaust filter

Each of these filters must be changedperiodically to maintain the vacuumcleaner’s efficiency.

For best results, only use genuineMiele filters and double-layereddustbags, type K/K. Technical fail-ures and damage from the use ofsubstitute, inferior dustbags and fil-ters will void any product warranty.

Different types of exhaust filters

Your model could have either:

a a “SUPER Air Clean filter”,

b an “ACTIVE Air Clean filter”

c or a “HEPA filter”

Suction Level Indicator

Only test the vacuum’s suction levelindicator with the rug and floor toolattachment. Using any other attach-ment will give an inaccurate reading.

^ Set the suction power selector, (ac-cording to model), to the highest set-ting and close the air inlet valve.

^ Lift the rug and floor tool off the floor.

^ The dustbag should be changed ifthe red marker completely fills the in-dicator window, even if the dustbagis not completely full.

Please note:

The indicator measures the airflowthrough the dustbag.

Vacuuming up even a small bit of finedust such as flour, ash or powder cancause enough of a drop in airflow tocause a "full bag" indication, eventhough the dustbag may appear almostempty. Since the airflow (suction power)is greatly reduced, the bag should bechanged. On the other hand, thedustbag may be bulging with carpet lintor pet fur yet the airflow may still behigh enough to prevent the suctionlevel indicator from registering "full". Ifthis occurs the dustbag should bechanged.

Either of these extremes can occur dur-ing normal use.

The suction level indicator is designedto work when a mixture of the aboveitems, along with hair, sand, etc . arevacuumed, as is generally the casewhen using the vacuum for normalhousehold cleaning.

We recommend that:

1. If you vacuum a lot of fine dust orsand:

^ Change the dustbag as soon as thered marker fills the indicator window, even if the bag is not full.

2. If you vacuum a lot of hair, pet fur orloose carpet fibers: the suction levelindicator will show only reduced suc-tion when in fact the bag is full.

^ Change the dustbag as soon as itphysically full, even if the suctionlevel indicator shows that it is not.

Maintenance and care

When should the dustbag andfilters be changed?

The Dustbag

The dustbag should be changed whenthe red marker fills the suction level in-dicator window or when the bag is full.(Make sure the rug and floor tool is at-tached when testing the vacuum’s suc-tion)

Miele dustbags are disposable andmade to be used only once. Do notattempt to reuse them.

The dust compartment filter:

The dust compartment filter should bechanged whenever a new box of genu-ine Miele dustbags is opened.

A dust compartment filter is includedwith every pack of Miele dustbags.

The exhaust filter

(see page 20 to determine which filteris included with your vacuum):

The vacuum turns itself off

If the vacuum detects an airflow prob-lem, it will shut itself off in order to pre-vent the motor from over heating.

This can occur anytime the airflowthrough the machine is impeded. A fullor clogged dustbag, clogged filters, orclogged wand or accessory can causethis safety feature to activate. If this oc-curs, turn off the vacuum and check forany blockages. After 20 to 30 minutes, the vacuum will reset itself, allowing youto turn it on and use it.
