1 General

The PNIO Configurator from BROSA is a software tool that creates a connection with BROSA PROFINET and PROFIsafe sensors and allows configuration changes. It is needed when:

• Updating the sensor firmware

• Reading out the internal error log during servicing

• Optionally for changing the device name for PROFINET / PROFIsafe sensors.

(A change via the PLC is also possible)

• Necessarily for adapting the destination address (F_Dest-Add) for PROFIsafe

sensors (fail-safe)

Installation note for PROFINET sensors:

The sensors are not suitable for a PoE (Power over Ethernet) connection! Therefore,

always use a separate voltage source of 9 to 36VDC

Read the operating instructions and the product-specific documents carefully before commissioning the sensor.

Make sure that the sensor is fully suitable for the applications in question. Improper use or any use other than intended may result in malfunction of the sensor or undesirable effects in your application. Therefore, the sensor may only be updated and configured by trained personnel authorized by the plant operator.

We also expressly point out that any liability is excluded if instructions in this documentation are disregarded.

Only the German version of the manual represents the original document.

1.1 Terms

protocol (fail-safe application)

F_Dest-Add: Another name for the destination address e.g. at Siemens

Fail-safe: Fail-safe, when using safety modules

6. Disable other network types on your PC, if present!

Note: BROSA recommends a point to point connection between the sensor and PC. If

you nevertheless want to access the sensor via an existing network, make sure that

the I/O controller (PLC) is not active on the network and that you have selected the

correct IP address and subnet mask in the internal settings. Before you can select the

sensor, a POR of the sensor is necessary.

2.4 Basic functions and control panels

2.4.1 Start screen and "Update firmware" tab

1. "Select Sensor": Drop-down menu in which the available sensors are displayed with their MAC address.

2. "Reset Connect Data": Used to connect and repair the sensor via the MAC and IP address in case of defective firmware.

3. "Device FW": Displays the current FW status of the sensor when the connection is active.

4. "Select unused IP-Address": Used to assign an unused IP address to the sensor.

Note: The sensor must go through a POR before selection in order to accept the IP address if it has already been integrated in the PN network.

5. "Select network card": Drop-down menu to select the network card to be used.

6. "Select firmware": The desired FW file can be loaded from the directory with .

7. "Update Sensor": By pressing, the upload to the sensor starts.

8. "Starts exclusively the TFTP Server": With this tick and the pressing of the "Update Sensor" button, the TFTP server starts before the upload, without the need to communicate with the

1. "Device name": Displays the assigned device name

2. "F-Address": The destination address (F_Dest-Add) is displayed here.

Note: The "F-Address" field is only required for PROFIsafe (Fail-safe) integration. If you have a PROFINET sensor, the entry in this field is redundant, but the field must still be filled with a number between 0-65534.

3. "Detected automatically F-Address": Determines the destination address from the device name, if this allows a valid derivation. The tick is set as default but can be deactivated.

4. "Save parameters": Writes the entered values for device name and destination address to the sensor

5. "Read parameters": Reads the stored parameters from the selected sensor

6. "Read Error Log": Reads the internal error log of the sensor and is used for diagnostic purposes.

7. "Reset connection parameter": Deletes the sensor connection data.

8. "Read Memory Map": Creates a memory map file that can be used by BROSA for service purposes.

9. "Write Memory Map": Enables the subsequent modification of internal parameters by BROSA.

2.4.3 Assign device name and destination address

1. First, make sure that there is a connection (ideally point to point) between the sensor and the Ethernet interface of your PC. Start the PNIO Configurator and run it as an administrator.

2.Turn the sensor off (POR). This deletes the previous IP from the sensor.

Note: There must be no active I/O controller (PLC) in the network.

3. Now select the network card to be used. (see. section 2.3)

If there is a correct connection with the sensor, the IP address of your network card is displayed

Note: If the IP address "0.0.0.0" is displayed, please check the connection to the sensor and the network settings.

4. In the IP address field, enter an unused IP address, which is located in the defined network. To do this, please change the numbers in the last field.

5. In the "Select Sensor" drop-down menu, select the appropriate sensor based on the MAC address. (The MAC address can be found on the nameplate or you can get it by specifying the Ser. No. at BROSA)

6. Now press the "Read parameters" button to display the current designations of the sensor.

* The destination address is only relevant for PROFIsafe (Fail-safe) applications, but a value between 0-65534 must be entered

Save the values by pressing the "Save parameters" button.

To check the correct storage, repeat steps 3 to 6.

8. Perform a POR before reconnecting the sensor to the PLC.

2.4.4 Update firmware

1. First, make sure that there is a connection (ideally point to point) between the sensor and the Ethernet interface of your PC. Start the PNIO Configurator and run it as an administrator.

No. at BROSA)

6. Now press the "Read Memory Map" or "Read Error Log" button to export the sensor data.

2.4.9 Calculate iPar CRC

This function is only used to calculate the checksum. The input must be entered manually in your controller under the safe parameters in the module settings.

In the default setting, the data is sent as a float. Here the checksum (F_iPar_CRC) is set to 0 or 1.

Note: When changing the output format, the checksum must be adjusted.
