Correct use

The dispensing spouts present a danger of burning orscalding. The liquids and steam dispensed are very hot.

Please note:

– Keep well away from the area underneath the spouts when hotliquids and steam are being dispensed.

– Heating surfaces have residual heat after use. Do not touch hotcomponents.

– Hot liquid or steam could spatter from the nozzles. Ensure thatthe central spout is clean and fitted correctly.

– Water in the drip tray can also be very hot. Take care whenemptying it.

CM 6310: Never look directly at the lighting or use opticalinstruments to look at it.

Please note the following regarding water:

– Fill the water container only with fresh, cold tap water. Hot orwarm water or other liquids could damage the coffee machine.

– Change the water every day to prevent a build-up of bacteria.

– Do not use mineral water. Mineral water will cause seriouslimescale deposits to build up in your machine and damage it.

– Do not use water from reverse osmosis units. The machine couldbe damaged.

Only fill the bean container with roasted espresso or coffee beans.Do not fill the bean container with coffee beans which have beentreated, e.g flavoured or caramelised, or with ground coffee.

Page 13: Operating instructions Coffee maker - Miele

The grinder setting you have selectedapplies to the preparation of allcoffees.

There are various ways to tell whetherthe coffee grinder is set correctly.

The coffee has been too coarselyground if:

– Espresso or coffee flows into the cuptoo quickly.

– The crema is very pale and uneven.

Set a finer grinder setting.

The coffee has been too finely groundif:

– Espresso or coffee only trickles intothe cup.

– The crema is dark brown.

Set a coarser grinder setting.

To avoid damaging the grinder, please note the following:Only adjust the grinder one setting ata time.Grind the coffee beans again if youwant to adjust the grinder to the nextsetting.

There are various ways to tell whetherthe amount of coffee is set correctly.

The amount of coffee is too low if:

– Espresso or coffee flows into the cuptoo quickly.

– The crema is very pale and uneven.

– The espresso or coffee lacks body.

Increase the amount of coffee so thatmore ground coffee is brewed.

The amount of coffee is too high if:

36

Useful tip: If the coffee is too strong foryou or it tastes bitter, try a different typeof bean.

Brewing temperature

The ideal brewing temperature willdepend on

– the type of coffee being used,

– whether an espresso or a coffee isbeing prepared, and

– the altitude of the region.

If the coffee machine is located at morethan 2000 metres above sea level, thebrewing temperature needs to be setlower due to the change in pressure. This is because the boiling point forwater at a high altitude above sea levelis lower than the boiling point for waterat sea level.

Useful tip: Not all types of coffee canwithstand a high temperature. Certaintypes are too delicate - the crema ontop would not be as good and the tastewould be impaired.

The coffee machine has five brewingtemperatures.

Select Brew temperature and touchOK.

Select the required temperature andtouch OK.

The setting is now saved.

Pre-brewing ground coffee

When the pre-brewing function isswitched on, the freshly ground coffeeis first moistened with a little hot water. Then the remaining water is forced

Electrical connection

79

Before connecting the appliance to themains supply, make sure that theconnection data on the data platecorresponds to the voltage andfrequency of the household supply. Thisdata must correspond in order to avoidthe risk of damage to the appliance.Consult a qualified electrician if in anydoubt.

The data plate is located behind thedrip tray. This can be seen on the left-hand side when the drip tray is pulledout.

The machine is supplied with a mainscable with moulded plug for connectionto a 50 Hz 220–240 V supply.

Connection should be made viasuitable switched socket with earthingcontact.

The fuse rating must be at least 10 A.

For extra safety, it is advisable to installa suitable residual current device(RCD). Contact a qualified electricianfor advice.

The socket should be next to theappliance and easily accessible.

Do not connect the machine to themains electricity supply by a multi-socket adapter or an extension lead. These do not guarantee the safety ofthe appliance (e.g. danger ofoverheating).

Do not connect the machine to aninverter such as those used with anautonomous energy source e.g. Solarpower. When switched on, peak loadsin the system can cause the safetyswitch off mechanism to be triggered. This can damage the electronic unit.

The machine must not be used with so-called energy saving plugs either. These reduce the amount of energysupplied to the machine causing it tooverheat.

If the connection cable is faulty, it mayonly be replaced by a qualifiedelectrician in order to avoid a hazard.

WARNING: THIS APPLIANCE MUST BEEARTHED.

Useful tip: If the connection cable istoo long, push it up through theopening at the back of the machine.
