This shot shows off the calibre of the production companies that are involved in the making of the film. The production companies are ‘Paramount’ and ‘Skydance’ and are both big name production companies that are well known for their role in creating high-end action and thriller movies.

The image shows a fuse that has just been lit travelling along a dark tunnel whilst lighting up the title on the screen. The image shows conventions of a thriller through the low-key lighting and the use of a fuse which gives a ticking-clock-scenario and the suspense of where it is going.

Page 6: Opening Sequence Timeline

This shot also shows one of the big name producers, Tom Cruise, as he is a very well known actor and has understanding in the action and thriller field so can be trusted to produce a film based off of his experience.

The image is still of a fuse making its way through a dark tunnel and smoke can be seen in this image, adding to the looming danger and unpredictability of the fuse.

Page 7: Opening Sequence Timeline

Another production company name that isn't as high level and recognisable as the first production companies, however had a hand in helping with the production. ‘Bad Robot’ focuses on producing thrillers in the film and TV categories, with their most recent, highly anticipated film being ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’

The image in this shot still shows the fuse but the eye is caught by the burst of flames at the end of the fuse. Not much else can be seen due to the low-key lighting.

Page 8: Opening Sequence Timeline

This tells the viewer that Brad Bird was highly involved in the making of this film, yet he specialises in animations, for example working on films like ‘The Incredibles’ and ‘Ratatouille’. This shows that he is expanding his area of skills and is branching out to different techniques.

The fuse lights up the wall of the tunnel, showing pipes that seem to be old and rusted possibly stressing the implication that there is little to none human life down there to look after the tunnels.

Page 9: Opening Sequence Timeline

This is the first shot of an actors name and is the name of the main characters actor, Tom Cruise, he is highly recognised as an A-list celebrity and is best known for starring in thriller movies.

Page 10: Opening Sequence Timeline

The title is revealed as ‘Mission: Impossible’ in bold, capital letters that glow like flames, connoting danger and excitement that is to come in the film. It is the fourth instalment of the ‘Mission: Impossible’ series so the title is widely recognised from the previous films.

Page 11: Opening Sequence Timeline

This shot shows the second half of the title that distinguishes it from the other ‘Mission: Impossible’ movies. It is called ‘Ghost Protocol’ and the connotation of the word ghost brings ideas of sneaking around, out of sight and undetected whilst creating a constant threat.

The image has a very smoky haze to it, tying in to the idea of the word ghost in the title. It gives the title a spooky, mysterious effect.

Page 12: Opening Sequence Timeline

This shows the second big name in the film who plays alongside Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner who is best known for his role in action-thrillers, particularly his more recent roles in the ‘Avengers’ as one of the main protagonists.

The setting has changed from the dark tunnel to what appears to be a small storage room, this shot possibly shows the audience part of the set that is to be seen in the film. The fuse is still seen weaving in and out of the different settings as it makes its way to its destination.
