YOUTH MUSIC MINISTRIES 19-20 SCHOOL YEARThere are terrific opportunities for our 7th-12th graders to get involved in developmental Worship Ensembles this school year, taught by Director of Worship Arts Tim Peck.

Youth Choir: learn to sing with a group in whatever voice you have! No prior singing/choral experience or music-reading required, but certainly encouraged. Willingness to try and participate is most important! Our goal is to participate once per semester at Sunday 11am Traditional Worship. Rehearses twice monthly, Sundays @ 4pm in the Choir Room.Upcoming Sunday Rehearsals: Aug. 18, Sept. 8, Sept. 15

Youth Band: learn to utilize instruments and vocal styles of Contemporary Worship. Prior instrumental or vocal experience not required — this is a skill-building group that will lead Youth and Planet 56 in Worship on the 3rd Sundays of the Month. Typical instruments include drums, bass, keys, and guitars. Rehearses weekly, Wednesdays @ 4pm in the YAC Theater.Upcoming Wednesday rehearsals: Aug. 21, Aug. 28, Sept. 4

Email Tim Peck ([email protected]) with any questions you might have — he can’t wait to work on Worship with our Youth!

VEGGIE TALESHey TFUMC! I wanted to share with you an exciting new outreach project that’s in the works. As many of you are aware, TFUMC went on a mission trip to Nashville this past June. On that trip, we were privileged to work with many inspiring ministries. One those ministries was a fellow UMC who started an organic vegetable farm called “The Giving Garden” to resource local food banks that don’t often receive fresh produce donations. As a community of faith, we know we can’t do everything and help everyone. Instead of thinking about what we don’t have, or our limitations to ministering to those outside the church walls, sometimes it’s helpful to look again at what we do have. Afterall, our Lord Jesus can do amazing things with a few loaves and fish! So, what do we have? We have an empty lot across the street and a climate that allows us to grow fresh produce all-year-round. The Nashville team and I are interested in beginning a Giving Garden here in Thomasville to serve our community better. One of the most encouraging things about The Giving Garden in Nashville was many of the key volunteers learned about gardening as they went. None of them would consider themselves as a “green thumb” or a “farmer”. These volunteers realized that they had empty land, offered it to the Lord and committed themselves to it. I know school is starting back up and many of us have busy schedules. I just wanted to let you know about this exciting new project. Lisa and Chris Salveter, Addison James, Lisa and Jace Knapp and I have planted broccoli, kale, tomatoes and carrots in seed trays, and they are off to a good start. We hope that over time that this ministry will grow, but we’re excited to take it slow and learn in the process. The next stage will be putting these plants in raised beds in our vacant lot on Madison street. If this type of work interests you, please speak to me (Drew) or one of the people listed above. We’d love your prayers and help in any way! Drew West, Director of Outreach and Youth

FAMILY ADVENTURE DAYSOur first Family Adventure Day in June (white water rafting) was a great success! We had a fun day and everyone survived!! More days are in the planning stages and we would like input on what kinds of adventures you and your family are interested in. Remember--these are activities for parents and kids to do TOGETHER. Here are a few adventures that have been suggested:• Family Tubing the Ichetucknee• Visit to Little Grand Canyon (near Columbus GA)• Jacksonville Zoo• Braves Game• Wild Animal Safari (near Pine Mountain GA)• Seacrest Wolf Preserve (participants must be 10+)• Go Fish Center (Perry GA)There are many more ideas out there! If you and your family are interested in one or more of these activities, or you have another suggestion, please let Laurie know [email protected]. We hope to have the next adventure in September or October!

YLA SUBSTITUTES NEEDEDYoung Learners is looking to add a few substitute teachers for the upcoming school year. If you love young children and your schedule allows, we’d love to call on you when a teacher needs to be out or when we just need extra help for special events. Substitute teachers hours are generally 8-noon as needed and we do offer hourly pay. Subs can sign up for M-F or only on specific days of the week and of course have the freedom to say no if they aren’t available when called.

A background check is required. Please contact Mollie Inman by August 5, at [email protected] if you are interested in learning more about this great opportunity to be a part of the ministry of Young Learners.

Contemporary Worship 8:45am

Good morning and thank you for joining us!  It is our hope that you will encounter God’s presence and feel His love as we worship together.  We have coffee and restrooms that can be found near the elevator, and nursery and children’s activities available in the Children’s Ministry Building.  Our Welcome Team is happy to help if you have any questions or need directions.
