Opening Ceremony Viewing

Hello everyone! It’s been a busy summer for us so far. We’ve added a putting green, raised bed gardens, outdoor dining, new paint in Stratford and Manchester and now we are in the process of converting the storage room off the library to a resident business office. It will feature two computers and a shared printer. If you have any ideas or suggestions for how to optimize this resident business office, please let us know. Last month’s resident forum was informative, and I think you’ll agree we successfully made clarifications and adjustments for items that were able to be resolved immediately. As you know, some issues will require a process for improvement. We will keep you updated with our progress. Thank you for your questions and participation. Congratulations to our marketing and sales team for achieving their occupancy goals. They have worked very hard, and I am proud of their success. They attribute much of their success to you and how willing you’ve been to answer questions and share your experiences, as well as showing your residences and your general nature of being warm and welcoming when you see an unfamiliar face.

Thank you!

Dear Lissa,

You said in your letter that the little boy

weighed 28 lbs. I want you to kiss him for

me as I don’t have no chance to kiss him

myself and when you kiss him think of me.

If I don’t meet you on earth I hope to meet

you in heaven above where parting will be

no more. I must close for this time, write

soon. So nothing more but remain your

affectionate husband until death.

Hello everyone!

Wow! We had a busy July! With all the recent new neighbors and those who will be here in the next couple of months, we are completely occupied — everyapartment, every cottage. Our waiting list is growing quickly.

My team and I are learning to adjust to new ways of giving tours. We’ve determined it’s best to first meet with potential residents and find out their goals and what they are interested in. If they think Warwick Forest is in their future, we encourage the waitlist. If they feel looking at a floor plan just isn’t the same as seeing an actual residence, we may ask if we can show your home. If this is an inconvenience for you, please do not hesitate to decline our request. You are not obligated in any way, but it is very much appreciated. Thank you for your support.

All the best,

Chaplain’s MessageBy Rev. Graham Patterson, Chaplain The Center of the Lord’s Prayer: Forgiveness

“Forgive us our sins, (in the same way) as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us.”– Matthew 6:12, Living Bible

Recall a situation in which you had a significant problem with another person, something that was really bothering you. Maybe it was a gnawing resentment or a bitter grudge. Perhaps someone said, “Just let it go,” and you thought, “I’d love to; please tell me how?”

“Letting Go: Five Steps to Forgiveness” by Fr. Frank Desiderio tells us how - in his own words and own voice. In this program, we will learn the five steps of LET GO, and be shown ways to “get past our past” and eventually look back with some peace.

Forgiveness is good for our body, mind and spirit. Plenty of research shows that forgiveness helps heal our bodies and works in our brains to counteract the negative effects of anger. Forgiveness is not only a gift we can give to one another; it’s also a gift God can and wants to give us.

Maintaining a healthy weight is one of the most important components of health and wellness. Metabolism (burning of calories consumed) can slow down with age, which can lead to increases in weight if activity levels are low. The best way to maintain a healthy weight is to balance “energy in” (foods and beverages you consume) and “energy out” (calories burned from basic body functions and during physical activity). Each person will be different, but in general to keep your weight the same you should burn the same number of calories as you consume. If you want to lose weight, you should burn more calories than you consume, and if you want to gain weight you should burn fewer calories than you consume.

Additional ways to maintain a healthy weight:l Try to exercise for at least 30 minutes a day, five days a weekl Limit portion size to help control caloric intakel Consume lean meats, fresh fruits and vegetablesl Drink plenty of water; try to limit beverages with added sugarsl Speak with a doctor or dietitian if you are concerned about your weight or caloric intake

Tips for preventingserious falls Falls are a leading cause of serious injuries in older adults that can lead to hospitalization, nursing home admission and even death among older adults. The chance of falling increases as we age. Health problems such as arthritis, heart disease, muscle weakness, poor balance or vision, dementia and even certain medications can increase your chance of falling. Dangerous things around the home, slippery throw rugs and poor lighting, for example, make falls more likely to occur. Remove loose carpets and rugs or tack down with non skid backing, use nightlights in dim areas, clean up clutter, wear firm shoes and don’t walk around in loose slippers or socks. If you fall, please let your health care provider know right away. It is important for you to identify what may have caused the fall to help you avoid falling again.
