MULTICULTURAL EVENTThe City of Marion celebrates the diversity of our local business community through the Multicultural Event annually.

The event brings together business owners from various cultural groups within the City of Marion where a panel of local businesses share their stories and answer questions about their business journey.

INTRODUCTION TO SMALL BUSINESS This course is run bi-annually and introduces the basics of small business.

Students will hear from a range of speakers on the following topics: marketing, business basics, tax requirements and there will be several field visits. It will have a particular focus on personal goal setting and involve a 1:1 meeting with a business advisor.

Unit delivered: FSKLRG03 Use basic strategies for career planning.

Adult Community Education (ACE) courses are designed to improve learning and employment skills and are the first step towards other training and education opportunities.

These accredited courses are delivered and assessed on behalf of Interskills (RTO 6653) which is the issuing registered training organisation. Within each of our accredited courses, a unit of competency from the Foundation Skills Training Package (FSK) is delivered. Each student, on successful completion of an accredited course, will receive a statement of attainment from Interskills Training who are also responsible for the quality assurance of this training.

BUILDING UPGRADE FINANCEBuilding Upgrade Finance is a unique finance product that is available in the City of Marion and designed to assist building owners with environmental upgrades to non-residential buildings as well as restoration and upgrades to non-residential heritage buildings.

It is provided by private sector finance providers and enabled by the Council.

Building Upgrade Finance is available for a wide range of environmental upgrades including solar photovoltaic

panels, water and energy efficiency fittings, wastewater reuse systems, waste management systems and much more.

Owners of non-residential State and local heritage listed buildings can also access Building Upgrade Finance for conservation works, access or building compliance improvements and works to allow ongoing use of the building.

MARION CULTURAL CENTREThe Marion Cultural Centre (MCC) houses The Domain Theatre, Sturt Room, Green Room, Outdoor Plaza Space, Next Chapter Café, Gallery M with its gift shop, and one of the City of Marion’s three libraries.

The MCC offers adaptable and functional spaces for hire that create an environment ideal for up to 280 attendees for product launches, conferences, displays, film screenings, seminars, conferences, workshops, presentations, meetings and functions, to suit a wide range of community and corporate needs.

FOOD NOTIFICATIONSAll businesses that sell food within the City of Marion are required to complete a notification form. All temporary food premises such as food trucks, mobile vans and market stalls are also required to complete a notification.

DEVELOPMENT SERVICES AND FOOD HANDLINGHOME BUSINESSAre you running a home business?

In some cases, a business can be run from home, if it meets the criteria of a “Home Activity”. Other businesses, that do not meet the Home Activity criteria, require Development Approval from the council.

OUTDOOR DINING AND MOBILE FOOD VAN PERMITSWould you like to offer outdoor dining at your business? Do you own a mobile food van?

Before operating your food business outside, you must first obtain either an outdoor dining or mobile food vendor permit. Council have also pre-approved a number of mobile food van locations to make it easier for you to operate your business.

FOOD SAFETY TRAINING‘I’m Alert’ is an online interactive platform including quizzes for food handlers of any skill level looking to improve their knowledge on the safe practices and procedures when handling food.

The online program is the equivalent of a two-day consultant

delivered course and covers a wide scope of the Food Safety Standards, relevant to all food handlers.
