Composition About the OER The open education resource is a collection of Lesson activities for English Grammar and
Composition that are useful as out-of-class activity while flipping the classroom. There are three
lessons as part of this OER, and each deals with an aspect related to Concept Maps. Concept
mapping is a technique that is useful across domains and can be a useful tool for: Knowledge
Integration and Summary.

Section 2: Design Decisions
Nature of Decisions to be taken
The decisions concerned in the formation of this OER design were broadly classified into three
types:
1. Content Decisions 2. Pedagogic Decisions 3. Technology Decisions
Content Decisions The content decisions related to:
a. Earmarking segment to be enclosed – Flipped Classroom Activity, LeD Videos, LbD
Activities, Assessment (Quiz, Assignments) Pedagogical Decisions
The flipped classroom strategy has two segments. They are Out-of-class segment and In-
Class segment. The Out-of-Class segment insists the students to listen or go through the provided
materials from the instructors (in any form of Videos, .doc, .pdf, .ppt). After the clear
understanding, they have to reinforce the concepts in the given assignments (Moodle Quiz
(subjective and objective), LbD). In terms of concept marking, out-of-class segments are related to
1. Recall and Apply the learned contents in the Reflective Spot or/and LbD
2. Graded Activities – Like graded Quiz or assignments activities
3. Preparation for the In-class Higher cognitive level activities – Think Pair Share, Peer
Instruction, Team Pair Solo.
In the In-Class Segment, the higher order of thinking is initiated through the Active
Learning Strategies like Peer Instruction, Think Pair Share and Team Pair Solo.
Technology Decisions
The technological decisions made for the creation of Out-of-Class and In-class activities
are,
1. For ScreenCasting – ScreenCast-O-Matic. The Video length is limited to 10-15 min and
File type is .mp4
2. MOODLE Lesson and Quiz Activity - For Flipped ClassRoom
3. PPT - For Flipped Classroom Constructor
4. MS-Word - For Descriptive Assignment Submission.
5. WordPress – For Content Sharing, Link sharing with students.

Lesson Settings
The lesson settings for the English Grammar and Compositions are made in Wordpress (link given
above). The following screenshots narrates how the websites pages needs to accessed for the
completion of the given lesson activity.

Course Plan, Learning Objective and the effective outcome.

In Course Activity, we have added LeD Videos and LbD activity for 6 different topics (Concord,
Active Passive Voice, Direct and Indirect Form, Suffix, Tenses and Tense Form, Degree of
Comparisons). The screenshot is shown below.

Once after the Course activities, Term I assessment is given in Moodle Menu. It has been decided
to add 20% of scored mark into Term I evaluation

By clicking the Term 1 Assessment, it will lead to screen for quiz as shown in screenshot 10. The
screenshot 11 and screenshot 12 and screenshot 13 depict the screen for Quiz. The questions are
added into the Quiz from the Question Bank created in Moodle as shown in screenshot 14.

How to use this OER : English Grammar and
Compositions
Step 1. Go to the website https://blendedlearningoer.wordpress.com/
Step 2. Download the OER lesson plan from the link

Step 3. Go to the Course Portfolio and understand the Learning objective and
outcome of this course
Step 4. First go to the ‘Flipped Class Room’ Menu. It has two 2 flipped classroom
activities (Concord and Suffix).
4a. Click on Concord. It will make you to move to Moodle. Use the login
credential given in the same page to access the content. Once after finishing the
lesson, click on ‘Quiz1’ and do the quiz activity.
4b. Click on Suffix. It will open a flipped classroom constructor. Once after
finishing the lesson, click on ‘Quiz2’ and do the quiz activity. Use the login
credential given in the same page to access the content of Moodle.
Step 5. Go to Course Activity. Listen to the 6 LeD Videos and do the corresponding
6 LbD activities. They are
a) Concord
b) Direct and Indirect Form
c) Active Voice and Passive Voice
d) Suffix
e) Tenses and Tense Form
f) Degree of Comparisons Step 6. Go to the Moodle Menu. Click on Quiz and do the Quiz activity. Use the
login credential given in the same page to access the content of Moodle.
Note: The step 4 to Step 6 is displayed in Menu Course Procedure
Step 7. In ‘Course Repository’, the course files are displayed.
Best Practices with Lesson Activity
Here are some of the best practices from our experience on using this Lesson Activity in
classroom:
1. Provide this activity at least 1 week in advance. 2. Provide minor incentive (marks) for completion of the activity.
3. Ensure that the grades obtained by the students are above average. This is to confirm the effectiveness of this lesson plan.

Section 4: Evaluating Effectiveness of OER
The effectiveness of OER can be assessed at two levels: 1. At the Learner level 2. At the Teacher level
Effectiveness at the learner level
Effectiveness at the student level involves metrics related to student access of the resource
and student learning.
The Grades obtained after Quiz activity evaluate the effectiveness of this program. The
LbD activity improves the concept assimilation. Also the feedback can be obtained from
the students about these activities.
Effectiveness at Teacher level
OER consumers are typically teachers who want their students to learn concept mapping.
Linking a survey on three main constructs – Ease of Use, Concept Coverage and
Concept Complexity, can help in identifying the effectiveness of this OER at teachers
level. This has to be done as a follow-up activity.
