QIPS and QIMS
Q: I created a CROWNWeb account over a year ago
and can’t remember my User ID and password.
What should I do?
O
A: Users with established QIPS accounts can reset their passwords
one of three ways: via the self-service method by clicking the
“Forgot your password” link on CROWNWeb’s homepage, by
contacting their QIPS Security Administrator or by contacting
the CROWN Help Desk. Page 2 of the completed QIPS Account
Forms have each individual’s CROWNWeb User ID, but that
person can contact his/her QIPS Security Administrator for
assistance if he/she cannot locate a copy of the completed form.

QIPS and QIMS
Q: Is the CROWNWeb Learning Management
System’s login information the same as
QualityNet Identity Provisioning System’s login
information?
O
A: No. The CROWNWeb LMS is a completely separate system
from QIPS and CROWNWeb. CROWNWeb LMS includes over
26 self-directed CROWNWeb training courses and
communication materials that can be used to assist users with
navigating through the CROWNWeb system.

System Overview
Q: Will the technical specifications for any data
entry fields change in CROWNWeb 2.0 (Phase
III)?
O
A: No. CROWNWeb 2.0 will not present any changes to the technical
specification of any field that is currently in the CROWNWeb system.
However, this release will offer some updates to the system’s graphical
user interface (GUI) to help ensure that the system continues to meet
federal accessibility standards, and meet the needs of users. Some of
these changes include:
My Reports repository
Timeout warning
Masking of patient data11/24/2010

System Overview
Q: How will CROWNWeb affect acute hospital
patients? I work in a hospital. What changes do
we expect to have?
J
A: Entry of data is not required for acute dialysis patients in
CROWNWeb. This system is designed to collect data for chronic
kidney disease patients.

13
System Overview
Q: Will all facilities be allowed to electronically
submit data into CROWNWeb via batch?
J
A: The ability to electronically submit data into CROWNWeb is
currently being tested by three of the largest dialysis
organizations in the community. CMS remains committed to
pilot a solution whereby all facilities can electronically submit
their patient-based data into CROWNWeb via a batch format.

14
System Overview
Q: What challenges may facilities face during the
implementation of CROWNWeb?
J
A: As with any new computer system, users will need to learn how
to navigate through CROWNWeb, and may experience a
learning curve. Additionally, users will need to familiarize
themselves with the required QIPS/QIMS and CROWNWeb
roles in order to successfully use the system. Users can meet
potential challenges by attending training or accessing the
training materials available on the Project CROWNWeb
website.

15
System Overview
Q: How will CROWNWeb be linked to the changes
in reimbursement (bundling QIP)?
J
A: CROWNWeb will be the source of outcomes data in future.
Quality Incentive Payments (QIP) will be dependent on
outcomes. CMS uses CROWNWeb to track outcomes.

System Overview
Q: Are facilities required to put all labs results into
CROWNWeb or just those shown on the
simulation on the Project CROWNWeb website?
G
A: Multiple lab results are required to be entered into
CROWNWeb. The simulations available on
Projectcrownweb.org demonstrate the process of navigating
through screens in CROWNWeb. A clinical data worksheet that
is located on Project CROWNWeb website and the
CROWNWeb LMS addresses all required lab entries.

17
System Overview
Q: Will facilities be required to just enter lab values
for January-March of every year for hemodialysis
patients and January-June for peritoneal dialysis
patients, or will labs be entered every month for
every patient?
G
A: CMS will announce the official collection months for hemodialysis and
peritoneal dialysis lab values upon full release of the CROWNWeb system.
However, the collection period for these measures are expected to initially
remain the same as current requirements:
Hemodialysis – 3 months
Peritoneal Dialysis – 6 months
Vascular Access – monthly, year-round11/24/2010

System Overview
Q: When a patient’s treatment changes from 3½
hours to say 4 hours, will this require a change in
CROWNWeb?
G
A: Yes. Facilities are asked to create a new patient treatment
summary whenever there is a change in the patient’s dialysis
prescription.

form for signatures (blue ink) prior to submitting to CMS.
