I read your interesting blog [1]

• He read the blog.  Casey knows it is specific to Shanghai.  Clearly, this correspondence is personal.

I am new to Shanghai and chomping at the bit [2]

• Great choice of words.  People read a ton of email, and may like it when you take a chance with communication.

• “Chomping at the bit" is a great idiomatic expression that we don't hear every day.

prove my mettle [3]

• this guy is a do-er.  • Doesn't bore us with desires of

"applying his strategic skills" or any of that crap.  All in good time.  For now, this guy's ready to roll up his sleeves if given an excellent ground-floor opportunity.

I need help [4]

• Many love it when people just admit right up front that they need help.  This shows humility, which is a really important quality.

• (Why?)

Do you think that you could help me [5]

• Not only does Casey know he needs some assistance, but he is asking very politely ...

• This is no baseless favor he's requesting.

• That shows self-confidence and a streak of entrepreneurship.

I would appreciate it if you kindly suggested a colleague or agency that is more appropriate for me [8].

I'm very passionate about food and always strive to put out the best quality product that I can. I'm very personable and am easy to get along with. I am very responsible, highly motivated, and able start immediately. Thank you for your consideration! --Ellis Johnson

Hi there, my name's Chelsea Crispin and I'm writing in regards to the ad for a Barista position. I currently work, as an expediter, part time evenings at Elliot's Oyster House on the waterfront. I'm available for early mornings, afternoons and some evenings as well. Attached is my resume for your consideration.  A little about my work ethic: I'm guest-oriented, so their satisfaction and enjoyment is my key priority. While working I like to have a good time with those around me and have an up-beat attitude. I'm also reliable in achieving and completing responsibilities that I hold in any position. I've worked in the hospitality for six years now and have acquired many skills and enhanced my knowledge, which is something I utilize both at work and even in my every day life.  I live in Capitol Hill and transportation is not a factor for me. Also I have a very current food handlers permit, with extra training in the SAFE SERV program. As well as a liquor permit.Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to hearing back from you either through e-mail or by phone at (425) 985-7374. Thank you again and have a good day! -Chelsea Crispin”

Hello, my name is Nicholas Dunn and I'm replying to the barista / soup and sandwich prep job ad. I hope my resume isn’t too hard to read, I'm on a computer right now that doesn't have Microsoft Word, so I had to save it as an image file. I know it's very inconvenient, but if you need I can send an actual copy over to you tonight once I get home. All you need to do is just email me back or call me at (360) 808-0288 and tell me.

thanks-Nick

Mr. Currie,

My name is Brad Samuelson and I am following up on my application for the International SAM position with Tableau. I am very excited about the prospect in working with such a dynamic and growing organization, and seeing it’s a sales role, I hope you don’t mind my persistence.

I am currently living and working in Shanghai, driving for a new technology start-up and managing its diverse staff. I started working in China as a translator for corporate marketing materials out of school and eventually returned back home to LA as a sales rep for DHL international logistics. From there I moved to IMAGINiT Technologies, where I was a regional sales rep, successfully growing the NW sales territory - making presentations, organizing trade shows, and ongoing account training for a suite of mechanical design software……..

Page 50: OPEN DAY ACADEMIC ENGLISH PGD1. OPEN DAY CV Recap Objective Paragraph: What type of job are you seeking & why?

…………….Now having started several projects from the ground up both Stateside and in Asia with several years in business development and operations, I have a deeper understanding of a business’s motivation to purchase mission critical software solutions. I believe account management as well as prospecting for new clients are my talents, my core competency, and have every expectation I will return to high-technology sales.

If you think that there is a potential my background is as suitable for Tableau as I do, then I would very much appreciate the opportunity for a phone interview or video conference. I am also so enthusiastic for this position that I would be happy to fly home for an interview in person.

I thank you in advance for your time and consideration. There are many fantastic references I will be happy to provide upon your request.

Sincerely,

Brad Samuelson China Mobile +86-15221168577

Hi!  My name is Kim Cole and I just saw the open position at your cafe for a barista. I am currently a student at Seattle Central Community College and am going to be available full-time in a week. I will be able to work for a month but then I'm back to school. I know you're looking for a full-time for probably more than a month but I was hoping that you might be in need of extra help. I live in Greenlake about five minutes from Ben and Jerry's, World Wrapps, and the Souped Up Cafe (if this is your cafe that would be amazing because the coffee is bomb) - but if it's not your cafe then I will love it anyway because I am obsessed with coffee. I have experience in both being a barista, and lots in retail so I dealt with a lot of customers - good and bad. I'm a pretty social kid and really love working with coffee and just other people in general as long as they're not awful people. Sorry this is long but I just wanted to let you know I am very interested in the position and if you're looking for someone more permanent I understand. Thanks for looking over this!
