    General Safety Instructions

    The following instructions serve as a general guide for the safe installation and operation of telecommunications

    products. Additional instructions, if applicable, are included inside the manual.

    Safety Symbols

    This symbol may appear on the equipment or in the text. It indicates potentialsafety hazards regarding product operation or maintenance to operator or service

    personnel.

    Danger of electric shock! Avoid any contact with the marked surface while the product is energized or connected to outdoor telecommunication lines.

    Protective earth: the marked lug or terminal should be connected to the building protective earth bus.

    Some products may be equipped with a laser diode. In such cases, a label withthe laser class and other warnings as applicable will be attached near the opticaltransmitter. The laser warning symbol may be also attached.Please observe the following precautions: Before turning on the chassis with optic module, make sure that the fiber opticcable is intact and is connected to the transmitter. Do not attempt to adjust the laser drive current.

    Do not use broken or unterminated fiber-optic cables/connectors or look straight at thelaser beam.

    The use of optical devices with the equipment will increase eye hazard. Use of controls, adjustments or performing procedures other than those specified herein, mayresult in hazardous radiation exposure.ATTENTION: The laser beam may be invisible!

    Always observe standard safety precautions during installation, operation and maintenance of this product. Only qualified and authorized service personnel should carry out adjustment, maintenanceor repairs to this product. No installation, adjustment, maintenance or repairs should be performed byeither the operator or the user.

    All extension slots are not hot-swappable

    Before operating modules in the electricity conditions, please be noticed that optical modules shall be connected with optical fiber wires or shield with optical module cover for fear that laser lightharms to operators eyes.

    Handling Energized ProductsGeneral Safety Practices

    Do not touch or tamper with the power supply when the power cord is connected. Line voltages may

    be present inside certain products even when the power switch (if installed) is in the OFF position ora fuse is blown. For DC-powered products, although the voltages levels are usually not hazardous,energy hazards may still exist.Before working on equipment connected to power lines or telecommunication lines, remove jewelryor any other metallic object that may come into contact with energized parts.Unless otherwise specified, all products are intended to be grounded during normal use. Groundingis provided by connecting the mains plug to a wall socket with a protective earth terminal. If an earth

    lug is provided on the product, it should be connected to the protective earth at all times, by a wirewith a diameter of 18 AWG or wider. Rack-mounted equipment should be mounted only in earthedracks and cabinets.Always make the ground connection first and disconnect it last. Do not connect telecommunicationcables to ungrounded equipment. Make sure that all other cables are disconnected beforedisconnecting the ground.

    Connection of AC MainsMake sure that the electrical installation complies with local codes.Always connect the AC plug to a wall socket with a protective ground.Always connect the power cord first to the equipment and then to the wall socket. If a power switchis provided in the equipment, set it to the OFF position. If the power cord cannot be readilydisconnected in case of emergency, make sure that a readily accessible circuit breaker or emergency

    switch is installed in the building installation.Connection of DC MainsUnless otherwise specified in the manual, the DC input to the equipment is floating in reference tothe ground. Any single pole can be externally grounded.Due to the high current capability of DC mains systems, care should be taken when connecting theDC supply to avoid short-circuits and fire hazards.DC units should be installed in a restricted access area, i.e. an area where access is authorized only toqualified service and maintenance personnel.Make sure that the DC supply is electrically isolated from any AC source and that the installationcomplies with the local codes.Before connecting the DC supply wires, ensure that power is removed from the DC circuit. Locatethe circuit breaker of the panel board that services the equipment and switch it to the OFF position.When connecting the DC supply wires, first connect the ground wire to the corresponding terminal,then the positive pole and last the negative pole. Switch the circuit breaker back to the ON position.A readily accessible disconnect device that is suitably rated and approved should be incorporated inthe building installation.

    Preventing Electrostatic Discharge Damage

    Modules which can be plugged into chassis are sensitive to damage from static electricity.Conversely, static voltages as high as 35,000V can be generated just by handling plastic or foam

    packing material, or by sliding assemblies across plastic and carpets. Not exercising the properelectrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions can result in intermittent or complete component failures.To minimize the potential for ESD damage, observe the following guidelines:

    Always use an ESD-preventive antistatic wrist strap or ankle strap and ensure that it makes goodskin contact. When removing or installing a component, make sure the equipment end of your antistatic strapleash is connected to the ESD connection sockets on the front of the chassis or to a bare metalsurface on the chassis. Avoid contact between the component and your clothing. The wrist strap only

    protects the component from ESD voltages on the body; ESD voltages on your clothing can stillcause component damage. Always place a card component-side-up on an antistatic surface, in an antistatic card rack, or in astatic shielding bag. If you are returning the item to the factory, immediately place it in a staticshielding bag. Handle Modules by the metal card carrier edges only; Avoid touching the board or any connector

    pins.

    Chapter 1 Overview of Device System

    OPCOM3103-155-BL (OPCOM3103) is compact SDH Multi-Service access device develped byRaisecom with 1U height. The device contains a sub-card besides a motherboard. Sub-card ismatched by user and the contents of the sub-card will be discribed in sub-card manual. Presented

    below refers to the functions and features of the montherboard.

    OPCOM3103 can provide STM-1, E1 and Ethernet, etc. services, it is mainly applied to serviceaccess and transmission of access layer in communication networks; it also can make upcommunication networks together with access devices, GSM mobile cellular base station, switchesand routers.

    OPCOM3103 is available for flexible topology: point-to-point, chain, ring and supports 1+1 LP (loworder path) protection to guarantee high reliable transmission.

    You can manage OPCOM3103 by in-band or out-of-band network management channel; Raisecomnetwork management platforms NVIEW NNM are also available for figure information ofmonitoring, alarms, management and maintenance.

    1.1 Main features

    The device consists of main card and sub card, sub-card supports hot-swapping and can beselected.

    Main board provides 32 balanced interface E1, 8 10/100M Ethernet electrical interfaces, ofwhich the first two Ethernet electrical interfaces can be customized as 100M Ethernet opticalinterface mode.

    Sub-card types are 2 STM-1 sub-card, 2 DS3/E3 sub-card, 4 10/100M Ethernet sub-card withswitching function , 2 convergence GE sub-card and so on. The specific contents of sub-cardis described in the sub-card manual and we shall not repeat in this article.

    The maximum capacity of device is 6 6VC4 (include sub-card), it can provide VC3/VC12hybird cross.

    Optical interface of device adopts SFP module and supports the module with digitaldiagnostic function, it facilitates the user to select and maintain.

    Ethernet service supports GFP and LAPS encapsulation, supports VC12/VC3 granularity, italso supports VCAT/LCAS function, 8 Ethernet services share 63 VC12 or 3 VC3.

    The device clock supports clock holding, locking, and free running modes, compliant toG.813 criterion;

    Device timing source supports 2 STM-1 line clock, the first 4 E1 line clock, 2 STM-1sub-card line clock, 1 2Mbit external clock, 1 2MHz external clock and the local crystaloscillator, at the same time supports 1 2Mbit and 1 2MHz external clock output.

    Clock timing source selection supports SSM protocol. Device supports automatic laser shutdown (ALS) function and remote device power-down

    alarm (LPR) detection function. E1 re-timing function. Re-timing source can be selected as: system 2M clock, the first 4E1

    line clock, 2Mbit or 2MHz external clock and so on. Device supports in-band network management and out-of-band network management.

    Inband network management channels occupies the last 2E1 services. Out-of-band networkmanagement channels need to use the DCC overhead bytes of regerneration segment ormultiplexing segment.

    In-band network management rate of device can be configured as

    192Kbps/576Kbps/768Kbps, out-of-band management rate can be configured asD1-D3/D4-D12/D1-D12.

    Providing SNMP interface and CONSOLE interface, in support of software onlin upgrade at both local end and remote end, very convenient for maintenance.

    Network topology type: point-to-point, chain and ring; provide 1+1 LP protection, and theswitch time is less than 50ms.

    Optical interface and E1 interface provides the local loopback and remote loopback functionto facilitate device mainenance. Provide a complete alarm and performance monitoring. Device provides redundant power supplies, power supports AC 220V, DC -48V and AC-DC

    hybrid. Adopt 19-inch chassis, interface is compact and easy installation. Power consumption:

    Chapter 4 Function and Application

    4.1 Network element type

    OPCOM3103 is suitable for network end access. It can be flexible configured as TM, ADM.

    1). Terminal multiplexer (TM)

    The main function of terminal multiplexer (TM) is multiplexing PDH signal or Ethernet signal tohigh speed SDH signal and de-multiplexing high speed SDH signal to PDH signal or Ethernet signal.

    2). Add/Drop multiplexer (ADM)

    Add/Drop multiplexer (ADM) is the most common network element type in SDH network, it has both synchronous multiplexing function and digital cross connection function, and can add/drop thetributary signal flexibly. Unlike TM, ADM not only implements multiplexing and de-multiplexing ofsignal but also finishes cross connection between line signal and tributary signal or signals amonglines. For example the access E1 signal can be multiplexed to both east STM-1 signal and westSTM-1 signal.

    4.2 Network topology

    OPCOM3103 has flexible networking capacity, it is in support of point to point, chain and ringnetwork topology structures.

    2). Chain topology

    Chain topology is made up of 2 TM devices and several ADM devices. Data is often transmitted in bi-direction and less optic fibers are needed.

    3). Ring topology

    OPCOM3103 can organize ring topology network at STM-1 speed. If using 2STM1 sub-card, 1+1 protection uplink of STM-1 interface is avaialbe and realize flexible service configuration and highreliability, it also can realize 2F SNC-P (2-Fiber Single direction Channel Protection) function.

    4.3 Clock

    The clock mode of OPCOM3103 is related to master/slave station setting. Master station uses freerun mode or external clock; slave station uses recovered clock. The slave station provides recoverclocks from STM-1 or from E1 interface. OPCOM3103 will switch to the secondary inputting byautomation if the primary reference clock is unavailable (including LOS, LOF or clock levelchanging, etc.), and if the primary reference clock has recovered it will switch back by software.

    4.4 Protection switch

    OPCOM3103 provides 1+1 LP protection in the case that the optical fiber is broken off, PCB isdamaged or middle nodes become invalid, and the protection switch time will be less than 50ms.There are two kinds of protection switch: automatic protection switch and force protection switch,the force protection switch can be configured through network management.

    1. Protection switch in chain topology

    As figure shows below, signal is transmitted from both ends but received the better one in chain 1+1 path protection. One of the transmitting lines is working line and the other one is protection line.Receiving end will select a better quality signal from the two lines. Generally the Rx data is fromworking line and if there is protection switch the Rx data is from protection line. When the workingline has recovered the Rx data is from working line again.

    The principle of 2F SNC-P protection is that: transmit data bi-directionally, receive data

    bi-directionally, select one better quality signal and use the other signal as standby. 2F SNC-P usesone fiber to transmit service, called S fiber (working fiber); uses another fiber for protection, called Pfiber (protection fiber). If every node of the ring works normally, the direction Tx signal and Rxsignal is the same (that is to say, if a note transmits data clockwise so does it receives data), but therouting is not the same (e.g. if station A transmits data to station C, the routing is A B C; and ifstation A receives data from C, the routing is C D A, so the middle stations passed by are notsame).

    The Tx and Rx routing is in figure (a) when it works normally: data from A to C is transmitted bothin S fiber and P fiber, S fiber will transmit the data from A to C clockwise though middle station B,

    and P fiber will transmit the data from A to C anticlockwise though middle station D. C receives twosignals bi-directionally and it will select a better quality signal (the signal in working line S fibergenerally). Data from C to A is the same process.

    The Tx and Rx routing is in figure (b) when the fiber is cut off: for the signal in S fiber is lost theswitch will shift from S fiber to P fiber to receive the data transmitted by P fiber, so the service

    between station A and C will go on. After 5~12 minutes the switch will recover if the fault isresolved and the service from C to A will not be effected.

    Chapter 5 Installation and Preparation

    5.1 Cautions

    Check whether the type of device, spare parts and number are same with that of packing list. Makesure the device appearance is in excellent condition. There must be drying process if the device has

    been damp.

    To make sure normal working of the device, please follow the following steps:

    Read this manual carefully Fix and install the device Prepare the fiber and E1 cable

    Connect the fiber or other cables If this is your first use of the device, please refer to configuration manual and command

    manual. Use the device properly

    5.2 Installation

    5.2.1 Cable preparation

    The cables you need to prepare are:

    5.2.2 Connect to optical interface

    Connect the fiber to the SDH optical interface on front panel, if proper connected the LOS indicatorswill turn off.

    5.2.3 Connect E1 interface

    OPCOM3103 provides 120 E1 interfaces. E1 interfaces are RJ45 connector, each connector

    provides 2 E1 signals. The pin arrangement of interface refers to the appendix.

    5.2.4 Connect Ethernet electrical interface

    LNK/ACT indicator of Ethernet interface will be ON if Ethernet electrical interface is connectedrightly.

    5.2.5 Connect SNMP port

    Use Ethernet cable to connect SNMP port with related network device, if connected correctly,LNK/ACT indicator will turn ON.

    5.2.6 Connect CONSOLE port

    Connect the RJ45 connector of CONSOLE cable with CONSOLE port on the front panel. Connect the DB9 connector PC serial interface. Start Hyper Terminal on PC:

    Configure OPCOM3103 network management and services, the detailed configuraiton pleaserefer to configuration guide and commands notebook.

    5.2.7 Power on

    If you use DC as power supply, connect the ground with protection grounding first, -48V with lowlevel voltage cable and 0Vwith high level voltage cable. Make sure of firm installation and noshort-circuit, then power on.

    If you use 220V AC, use the power supply cable in accessories.

    After powered on, PWR indicator light will be normal, and the system has finished initialized if SYS

    starts to flicker.

    5.2.8 Service configuration

    OPCOM3103 supports timeslot configuration of VC12/VC3 level, please refer to commandsnotebook and configuration guide.

    5.3 Topology connections

    Different topology has different connection methods, and different protection mode also has differentconnection methods.

    5.3.1 Point-to-point topology

    Point-to-point topology is very simple and the connection method will not change no matter protected or not. See in the following figure:

    Chapter 6 FAQ

    If you have problems during the installation or application, please try to solve them through thefollowing suggestions. And if it does not work, please contact the sellers to get technical supports.

    PWR light of power supply card turns OFF.

    Check the power supply cable first, and then the power supply card.

    LOS alarms of SDH optical interface

    That is to say SDH optical interface losses of receiving signal. First, check whether the fiber isconnected correctly; second, if there are still alarms when self-loop the cable (perhaps opticalattenuation is needed), change the cables; if there are still alarms then there is something wrong withdevice.

    Indicator light of Ethernet interface or SNMP network management interface is OFF.

    First, check whether the cable works normally or not; then, check whether the devices connect toEthernet interface or SNMP network management interface works normally or not. And make surethe cable is correct.

    E1 line is not connective

    Check the E1 cable, pin arrangement, optical interface connection, timeslot setting and watch alarmreported to EMS, the loopback function provided by network mangement can locate the fault.
