Dear Parents, greetings to all of you as we speed through a very full third term. BOOKWEEK Bookweek is well underway. Although every day at school involves learning to read in junior classes so that older students can read to learn, Bookweek is a special time of our School year. On Monday we held our Book Character Day when children and staff came ’dressed’ as a favourite character while tomorrow a visiting storyteller will make stories come alive. Special displays are set up in the School library while the librarians have a major role promoting books to pupils. Each day there is a library quiz with prizes and on Friday there will be an opportunity for some students to learn more about cartooning. Teachers will share their favourite stories with other classes and Movie night will be a good way to end the week. TEACHER APPRECIATION DAY A long standing Opaheke School tradition, the first Friday in September is a special day for students to acknowledge and thank their teachers. We look forward to making our teacher’s day a special one on Friday 6th September. PARKING/DRIVER COURTESY Opaheke Road has now become a very busy route early in the morning. Our road patrol monitors have to make judgements about a safe time to cross children. We do have parent supervisors who volunteer their time to ensure our children can safely cross at the pedestrian crossing. They are not to be abused by impatient drivers. Our neighbours at school have expressed concerns about parents who are not taking enough care when dropping off children at school and not being considerate when parking. There have been minor car accidents with parents who are u-turning and parking over driveways. Please remember to be
