The expected annual savings on electricity costs are £45,500 with an environmental benefit in terms of CO2 emission reduction of 227 tonnes.

Fläkt Woods brief was to refurbish or upgrade each of the existing air handling units. The existing units had reached the end of their serviceable life and Fläkt Woods were invited to offer their suggestions to further the life of the units. Fläkt Woods identified a way to save energy by utilising plug fans and multistage axial fans, then controlling duty by using frequency Inverter drives. In this case, by opting to use a specialist HVAC range of drives to best match the fans and the existing control systems.

As Tim Hewes, Service Sales Engineer for Fläkt Woods explains “the customer needed a one stop shop for the concept, supply, delivery, installation of frequency inverter drives, fans, coils, filters and electrical package. A full team of project managers, fan engineers and electricians who could work in hand with the control engineers to ensure a smooth transition from old to new and minimisedisruption to the customer.”

The project was designed to prolong the life of the existing AHUs by replacing the fans and coils. Whilst refurbishing the AHU recommendations were made for energy savings and improvements in filtration and cooling capacity.
