Welcoming Comments

Welcome to mHealth Summit Europe 2015! This year, the Summit is taking place

as part of eHealth Week, Europe’s largest pan-European conference. It is now more

relevant than ever to bring these two events together, as it represents a unique

opportunity to learn about the latest advances in health IT and how mHealth fits

into the bigger picture.

Our second edition of the mHealth Summit Europe brings together over 300 global

leaders in government, the private sector, industry, academia, providers and non-

for-profit organisations from across the globe. Programme highlights include the

Joint Plenary Session with eHealth Week where the European Commission and the

Latvian Ministry of Health will give their views on the recent Green Paper on mHealth.

On behalf of HIMSS Europe, I would like to thank you for joining us today and hope

you enjoy the event!

Best regards,

Towards a Nordic plug’n play Public mHealth Market —Creating a Joint Framework for Large Scale Innovationand DeploymentEurope is littered with defunct mHealth/telehealth pilots that have not made it tomarket because of complex value chains, misaligned incentives, and lack of aninteroperable infrastructure. Meanwhile, a complicated and fragmented legalenvironment makes it complicated for providers to integrate existing mobile platforms(ie Apple or Google) with existing electronic record systems. Recognizing thesemarket failures, the Nordic countries (especially Denmark, Norway, and Sweden) aretaking steps to build a secure and interoperable infrastructure based on Continuaguidelines that will can collect health data from citizens’ devices and make it availableto doctors, nurses and carers. Who has Interest in Using mHealth? Who Should be Drivingand Paying for mHealth? One of the most prominent reasons why mHealth is still lacking broad implementationis the fact that there is no one in the healthcare ecosystem who is prepared to driveits implementation and / or reimburse it. This is very often due to political stakes, individual interests, or reluctance to change existing legal and structural frameworks. The session aims to unite the different stakeholders, discuss individual positions andcome up with a possible way forward taking into account individual interests andneeds.
