Only The LORD, Shall Judge Us

THE FIRST BOOK OF MOSES, CALLED GENESIS Chapter 15

    12. And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of greatdarkness fell upon him.

    13. And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land thatis nottheirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

    14. And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will Ijudge: and afterward shall they come outwith great substance.

    15. And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.16. But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not

    yet full.

THE FIRST BOOK OF MOSES, CALLED GENESIS Chapter 16

    3. And Sarai Abrams wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years inthe land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.

    4. And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her

mistress was despised in her eyes.5. And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and

when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORDjudge between meand thee.

    6. But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. Andwhen Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.

THE FIRST BOOK OF MOSES, CALLED GENESIS Chapter 18

    24. Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare theplace for the fifty righteous that are therein?

    25. That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that therighteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth doright?

    26. And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all theplace for their sakes.

    27. And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which ambutdust and ashes:

    28. Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lackoffive? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it.

THE FIRST BOOK OF MOSES, CALLED GENESIS Chapter 19

    8. Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out untoyou, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came theyunder the shadow of my roof.

    9. And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This onefellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs beajudge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, evenLot, and came near to break the door.

    10. But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.11. And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that

they wearied themselves to find the door.12. And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters,

and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:

    13. For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the L ORD; andthe LORD hath sent us to destroy it.

    14. And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get youout of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in

law.15. And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two

daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.16. And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the

hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set himwithout the city.

THE FIRST BOOK OF MOSES, CALLED GENESIS Chapter 31

    36. And Jacob was wroth, and chode with Laban: and Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is mytrespass? what is my sin, that thou hast so hotly pursued after me?

    37. Whereas thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? set itherebefore my brethren and thy brethren, that they mayjudge betwixt us both.

    38. This twenty years have I been with thee; thy ewes and thy she goats have not cast their young, and therams of thy flock have I not eaten.

    39. That which was torn ofbeasts I brought not unto thee; I bare the loss of it; of my hand didst thou requireit, whetherstolen by day, or stolen by night.

    40. Thus I was; in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep departed frommine eyes.

    41. Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and sixyears for thy cattle: and thou hast changed my wages ten times.42. Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou

hadst sent me away now empty. God hath seen mine affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebukedthee yesternight.

    53. The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge betwixt us. AndJacob sware by the fear of his father Isaac.

    54. Then Jacob offered sacrifice upon the mount, and called his brethren to eat bread: and they dideat bread, and tarried all night in the mount.

    55. And early in the morning Laban rose up, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed

them: and Laban departed, and returned unto his place.

THE FIRST BOOK OF MOSES, CALLED GENESIS Chapter 49

    16. Dan shalljudge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel.17. Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall

fall backward.18. I have waited for thy salvation, O LORD.

THE SECOND BOOK OF MOSES, CALLED EXODUS Chapter 2

    11. And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and

looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.12. And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that therewas no man, he slew the Egyptian,

and hid him in the sand.13. And when he went out the second day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together: and he said to

him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?14. And he said, Who made thee a prince and ajudge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the

Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely this thing is known.15. Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh,

and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.

THE SECOND BOOK OF MOSES, CALLED EXODUS Chapter 5

    20. And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh:21. And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, andjudge; because ye have made our

savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword intheir hand to slay us.

    22. And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thouso evil entreated thispeople? why is it thatthou hast sent me?

    23. For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hastthou delivered thy people at all.

THE SECOND BOOK OF MOSES, CALLED EXODUS Chapter 18

    11. Now I know that the LORDis greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly hewasabove them.

    12. And Jethro, Moses father in law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and allthe elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses father in law before God.

    13. And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat tojudge the people: and the people stood by Mosesfrom the morning unto the evening.

    14. And when Moses father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thoudoest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning untoeven?

    15. And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to inquire of God:

    16. When they have a matter, they come unto me; and Ijudge between one and another, and I do make themknow the statutes of God, and his laws.17. And Moses father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.18. Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for

thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.19. Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people

to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:20. And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk,

and the work that they must do.21. Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating

covetousness; and placesuch over them, tobe rulers of thousands, andrulers of hundreds, rulers offifties, and rulers of tens:

    22. And let themjudge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, thatevery great matter they shall bring untothee, but every small matter they shalljudge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall beartheburden with thee.

    23. If thou shalt do this thing, and God command theeso, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all thispeople shall also go to their place in peace.

    24. So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said.25. And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands,

rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.26. And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small

matter they judged themselves.27. And Moses let his father in law depart; and he went his way into his own land.

THE THIRD BOOK OF MOSES, CALLED LEVITICUS Chapter 19

    15. Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, norhonour the person of the mighty: butin righteousness shalt thoujudge thy neighbour.

    16. Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou standagainst the blood of thy neighbour: I am the LORD.

    17. Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, andnot suffer sin upon him.

THE FIFTH BOOK OF MOSES, CALLED DEUTERONOMY Chapter 1

    15. So I took the chief of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains overthousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officersamong your tribes.

    16. And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hearthecauses between your brethren, andjudge

    4/45

righteously between every man and his brother, and the strangerthatis with him.17. Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; butye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be

afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is Gods: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring ituntome, and I will hear it.

    18. And I commanded you at that time all the things which ye should do.

THE FIFTH BOOK OF MOSES, CALLED DEUTERONOMY Chapter 16

    17. Every manshallgive as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath giventhee.

    18. Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, throughout thy tribes: and they shalljudge the people with just judgment.

    19. Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind theeyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

    20. That which is altogether just shalt thou follow, that thou mayest live, and inherit the land which theLORD thy God giveth thee.

THE FIFTH BOOK OF MOSES, CALLED DEUTERONOMY Chapter 32

    35. To me belongeth vengeance, and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of theircalamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste.

    36. For the LORD shalljudge his people, and repent himself for his servants, when he seeth that theirpoweris gone, and thereis none shut up, or left.

    37. And he shall say, Where are their gods, theirrock in whom they trusted,38. Which did eat the fat of their sacrifices, anddrank the wine of their drink offerings? let them rise up and

    help you, andbe your protection.

THE BOOK OF JUDGES Chapter 2

    12. And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, andfollowed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto

them, and provoked the LORD to anger.13. And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.14. And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that

spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not anylonger stand before their enemies.

    15. Whithersoever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the LORD had said, andas the LORD had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed.

    16. Nevertheless the LORD raised up judges, which delivered them out of the hand of those that spoiledthem.

    17. And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowedthemselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the

commandments of the LORD; butthey did not so.18. And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD was with thejudge, and delivered them out of

the hand of their enemies all the days of thejudge: for it repented the LORD because of their groaningsby reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.

    19. And it came to pass, when thejudge was dead, thatthey returned, and corrupted themselves more thantheir fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not fromtheir own doings, nor from their stubborn way.

THE BOOK OF JUDGES Chapter 11

    26. While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and her towns, and in Aroer and her towns, and in all the cities that be

along by the coasts of Arnon, three hundred years? why therefore did ye not recoverthem within thattime?27. Wherefore I have not sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: the LORD the

Judge bejudge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.28. Howbeit the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not unto the words of Jephthah which he sent

him.29. Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and

passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed overunto the children of Ammon.

THE FIRST BOOK OF SAMUEL,OTHERWISE CALLED, THE FIRST BOOK OF THE KINGS Chapter 2

    7. The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.

    8. He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, andlifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them amongprinces, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORDs, and hehath set the world upon them.

    9. He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no manprevail.

    10. The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: theLORD shalljudge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of hisanointed.

    25. If one man sin against another, thejudge shalljudge him: but if a man sin against the LORD,who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father,

because the LORD would slay them.26. And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men.

THE FIRST BOOK OF SAMUEL,OTHERWISE CALLED, THE FIRST BOOK OF THE KINGS Chapter 3

    11. And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every onethat heareth it shall tingle.

    12. In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin,I will also make an end.

    13. For I have told him that I willjudge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his

sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.14. And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Elis house shall not be purged

with sacrifice nor offering for ever.15. And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared

to shew Eli the vision.16. Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.17. And he said, What is the thing that theLORD hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide itnot from me: God do

so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.18. And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what

seemeth him good.19. And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

    20. And all Israel from Dan even to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel was established tobe a prophet of theLORD.

    21. And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the wordof the LORD.

THE FIRST BOOK OF SAMUEL,OTHERWISE CALLED, THE FIRST BOOK OF THE KINGS Chapter 8

    1. AND it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.2. Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: theywere judges in Beer-

sheba.3. And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted

judgment.4. Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,5. And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king tojudge

    6/45

us like all the nations.6. But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king tojudge us. And Samuel prayed unto

the LORD.7. And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for

they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.8. According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even

unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.9. Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the

manner of the king that shall reign over them.10. And Samuel told all the words of the LORD unto the people that asked of him a king.

    19. Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have aking over us;

    20. That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king mayjudge us, and go out before us, and fightour battles.

    21. And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the LORD.22. And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto

the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.

THE FIRST BOOK OF SAMUEL,OTHERWISE CALLED, THE FIRST BOOK OF THE KINGS Chapter 24

    11. Moreover, my father, see, yea, see the skirt of thy robe in my hand: for in that I cut off the skirt of thyrobe, and killed thee not, know thou and see that thereis neither evil nor transgression in mine hand, andI have not sinned against thee; yet thou huntest my soul to take it.

    12. The LORD judge between me and thee, and the LORD avenge me of thee: but mine hand shall not beupon thee.

    13. As saith the proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceedeth from the wicked: but mine hand shall not beupon thee.

    14. After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea.

    15. The LORD therefore bejudge, andjudge between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliverme out of thine hand.

THE SECOND BOOK OF SAMUEL,OTHERWISE CALLED, THE SECOND BOOK OF THE KINGS Chapter 15

    2. And Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it wasso, that when any man thathad a controversy came to the king for judgment, then Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what cityartthou? And he said, Thy servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.

    3. And Absalom said unto him, See, thy matters are good and right; but thereis no man deputedof the kingto hear thee.

    4. Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were madejudge in the land, that every man which hath any suit orcause might come unto me, and I would do him justice!

    5. And it wasso, that when any man came nigh tohim to do him obeisance, he put forth his hand, and tookhim, and kissed him.

    6. And on this manner did Absalom to all Israel that came to the king for judgment: so Absalom stole thehearts of the men of Israel.

THE FIRST BOOK OF THE KINGS,COMMONLY CALLED, THE THIRD BOOK OF THE KINGS Chapter 3

    7. And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I ambuta

little child: I know not how to go out or come in.8. And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot benumbered nor counted for multitude.

    9. Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart tojudge thy people, that I may discern between goodand bad: for who is able tojudge this thy so great a people?

    10. And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.11. And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life;

    neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyselfunderstanding to discern judgment;

THE FIRST BOOK OF THE KINGS,COMMONLY CALLED, THE THIRD BOOK OF THE KINGS Chapter 7

    6. And he made a porch of pillars; the length thereofwas fifty cubits, and the breadth thereof thirty cubits:and the porch was before them: and the otherpillars and the thick beam were before them.

    7. Then he made a porch for the throne where he mightjudge, even the porch of judgment: and itwascovered with cedar from one side of the floor to the other.

    8. And his house where he dwelt hadanother court within the porch, which was of the like work. Solomonmade also an house for Pharaohs daughter, whom he had taken towife, like unto this porch.

THE FIRST BOOK OF THE KINGS,COMMONLY CALLED, THE THIRD BOOK OF THE KINGS Chapter 8

    31. If any man trespass against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to swear, and the

oath come before thine altar in this house:32. Then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his wayupon

his head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.33. When thy people Israel be smitten down before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee, and

shall turn again to thee, and confess thy name, and pray, and make supplication unto thee in this house:34. Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land

which thou gavest unto their fathers.

THE FIRST BOOK OF THE CHRONICLES Chapter 16

    31. Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice: and let men say among the nations, The LORD

reigneth.32. Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof: let the fields rejoice, and all that is therein.33. Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD, because he cometh to

judge the earth.34. O give thanks unto the LORD; forheis good; for his mercy endureth for ever.35. And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver us from the

heathen, that we may give thanks to thy holy name, andglory in thy praise.

THE SECOND BOOK OF THE CHRONICLES Chapter 1

    9. Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king

over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.

    10. Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who canjudge this thy people, thatisso great?

    11. And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, orhonour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom andknowledge for thyself, that thou mayestjudge my people, over whom I have made thee king:

    12. Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such asnone of the kings have had that havebeen before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.

THE SECOND BOOK OF THE CHRONICLES Chapter 6

    22. If a man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to make him swear, and the oath comebefore thine altar in this house;

    23. Then hear thou from heaven, and do, andjudge thy servants, by requiting the wicked, by recompensinghis way upon his own head; and by justifying the righteous, by giving him according to his

    righteousness.24. And if thy people Israel be put to the worse before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee;

    and shall return and confess thy name, and pray and make supplication before thee in this house;

THE SECOND BOOK OF THE CHRONICLES Chapter 19

    3. Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek God.

    4. And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again through the people from Beer-sheba to mountEphraim, and brought them back unto the LORD God of their fathers.

    5. And he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Judah, city by city,6. And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for yejudge not for man, but for the LORD, who is with you

in the judgment.7. Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: forthereis no iniquity with the

LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.8. Moreover in Jerusalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites, and ofthe priests, and of the chief of the

fathers of Israel, for the judgment of the LORD, and for controversies, when they returned to Jerusalem.9. And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the LORD, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.

THE SECOND BOOK OF THE CHRONICLES Chapter 2010. And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel

invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;11. Behold,Isay, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to

inherit.12. O our God, wilt thou notjudge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh

against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.13. And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.14. Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a

    Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;

    EZRA Chapter 7

Or darkness, thatthou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.12.Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!13. And thou sayest, How doth God know? can hejudge through the dark cloud?14. Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.15. 6. Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away likesmoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: butmy salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.

    7. Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not thereproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.

    8. For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool: but myrighteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation.

THE BOOK OF THE PROPHET JEREMIAH Chapter 5

    25. Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you.26. For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they

catch men.27. As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen

rich.28. They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: theyjudge not the cause, the

cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they notjudge.29. Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?30. A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;31. The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love tohaveitso:

and what will ye do in the end thereof?

THE LAMENTATIONS OF JEREMIAH Chapter 3

    55. I called upon thy name, O LORD, out of the low dungeon.56. Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.57. Thou drewest near in the day thatI called upon thee: thou saidst, Fear not.58. O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.59. O LORD, thou hast seen my wrong:judge thou my cause.60. Thou hast seen all their vengeance andall their imaginations against me.61. Thou hast heard their reproach, O LORD, andall their imaginations against me;62. The lips of those that rose up against me, and their device against me all the day.63. Behold their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their musick.

    64. Render unto them a recompence, O LORD, according to the work of their hands.65. Give them sorrow of heart, thy curse unto them.66. Persecute and destroy them in anger from under the heavens of the LORD.

THE BOOK OF THE PROPHET EZEKIEL Chapter 7

    1. MOREOVER the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,2. Also, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD unto the land of Israel; An end, the end is come upon the

four corners of the land.3. Now is the end come upon thee, and I will send mine anger upon thee, and willjudge thee according to

thy ways, and will recompense upon thee all thine abominations.

    4. And mine eye shall not spare thee, neither will I have pity: but I will recompense thy ways upon thee, andthine abominations shall be in the midst of thee: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.5. Thus saith the Lord GOD; An evil, an only evil, behold, is come.6. An end is come, the end is come: it watcheth for thee; behold, it is come.7. The morning is come unto thee, O thou that dwellest in the land: the time is come, the day of trouble is

near, and not the sounding again of the mountains.8. Now will I shortly pour out my fury upon thee, and accomplish mine anger upon thee: and I willjudge

thee according to thy ways, and will recompense thee for all thine abominations.9. And mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: I will recompense thee according to thy ways and

thine abominations thatare in the midst of thee; and ye shall know that I am the LORD that smiteth.10. Behold the day, behold, it is come: the morning is gone forth; the rod hath blossomed, pride hath

budded.11. Violence is risen up into a rod of wickedness: none of themshallremain, nor of their multitude, nor of

any of theirs: neithershalltherebe wailing for them.12. The time is come, the day draweth near: let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn: for wrath is upon

all the multitude thereof.13. For the seller shall not return to that which is sold, although they were yet alive: for the vision is

touching the whole multitude thereof, which shall not return; neither shall any strengthen himself in theiniquity of his life.

    14. They have blown the trumpet, even to make all ready; but none goeth to the battle: for my wrath is uponall the multitude thereof.

    15. The sword is without, and the pestilence and the famine within: he that is in the field shall die with thesword; and he that is in the city, famine and pestilence shall devour him.

    16. But they that escape of them shall escape, and shall be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all

of them mourning, every one for his iniquity.17. All hands shall be feeble, and all knees shall be weakas water.18. They shall also gird themselves with sackcloth, and horror shall cover them; and shameshallbe upon all

faces, and baldness upon all their heads.19. They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall

not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neitherfill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.

    20. As for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty: but they made the images of their abominationsandof their detestable things therein: therefore have I set it far from them.

    21. And I will give it into the hands of the strangers for a prey, and to the wicked of the earth for a spoil; andthey shall pollute it.

    22. My face will I turn also from them, and they shall pollute my secret place: for the robbers shall enterinto it, and defile it.23. Make a chain: for the land is full of bloody crimes, and the city is full of violence.24. Wherefore I will bring the worst of the heathen, and they shall possess their houses: I will also make the

pomp of the strong to cease; and their holy places shall be defiled.25. Destruction cometh; and they shall seek peace, and thereshallbe none.26. Mischief shall come upon mischief, and rumour shall be upon rumour; then shall they seek a vision of

the prophet; but the law shall perish from the priest, and counsel from the ancients.27. The king shall mourn, and the prince shall be clothed with desolation, and the hands of the people of the

land shall be troubled: I will do unto them after their way, and according to their deserts will I judgethem; and they shall know that I am the LORD.

THE BOOK OF THE PROPHET EZEKIEL Chapter 11

    8. Ye have feared the sword; and I will bring a sword upon you, saith the Lord GOD.9. And I will bring you out of the midst thereof, and deliver you into the hands of strangers, and will

execute judgments among you.10. Ye shall fall by the sword; I willjudge you in the border of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.11. This city shall not be your caldron, neither shall ye be the flesh in the midst thereof; butI willjudge you

in the border of Israel:12. And ye shall know that I am the LORD: for ye have not walked in my statutes, neither executed my

judgments, but have done after the manners of the heathen that are round about you.

    37. Behold, therefore I will gather all thy lovers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all them that thouhast loved, with all them that thou hast hated; I will even gather them round about against thee, and willdiscover thy nakedness unto them, that they may see all thy nakedness.

    38. And I willjudge thee, as women that break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will give theeblood in fury and jealousy.

    39. And I will also give thee into their hand, and they shall throw down thine eminent place, and shall breakdown thy high places: they shall strip thee also of thy clothes, and shall take thy fair jewels, and leavethee naked and bare.

    40. They shall also bring up a company against thee, and they shall stone thee with stones, and thrust theethrough with their swords.

    41. And they shall burn thine houses with fire, and execute judgments upon thee in the sight of manywomen: and I will cause thee to cease from playing the harlot, and thou also shalt give no hire any more.

    42. So will I make my fury toward thee to rest, and my jealousy shall depart from thee, and I will be quiet, and will be no more angry.

    43. Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast fretted me in all these things; behold, therefore I also will recompense thy way upon thine head, saith the Lord GOD: and thou shalt notcommit this lewdness above all thine abominations.

THE BOOK OF THE PROPHET EZEKIEL Chapter 18

    26. When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them;for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.

    27. Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth thatwhich is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.

    28. Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shallsurely live, he shall not die.

    29. Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal?

are not your ways unequal?30. Therefore I willjudge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD.Repent, and turnyourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

    31. Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heartand a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

    32. For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turnyourselves, andlive ye.

    2. Then came the word of the LORD unto me, saying,3. Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye come to

inquire of me?As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be inquired of by you.4. Wilt thoujudge them, son of man, wilt thoujudgethem? cause them to know the abominations of their

fathers:5. And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up mine hand

    unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself known unto them in the land of Egypt, when Ilifted up mine hand unto them, saying, I am the LORD your God;

    6. In the day thatI lifted up mine hand unto them, to bring them forth of the land of Egypt into a land that Ihad espied for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands:

    7. Then said I unto them, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselveswith the idols of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

    8. But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto me: they did not every man cast away the

abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said, I will pour out my furyupon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

    28. And thou, son of man, prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning the Ammonites, andconcerning their reproach; even say thou, The sword, the sword is drawn: for the slaughteritisfurbished, to consume because of the glittering:

    29. Whiles they see vanity unto thee, whiles they divine a lie unto thee, to bring thee upon the necks ofthemthatare slain, of the wicked, whose day is come, when their iniquityshallhave an end.

    30. Shall I cause itto return into his sheath? I willjudge thee in the place where thou wast created, in theland of thy nativity.

    31. And I will pour out mine indignation upon thee, I will blow against thee in the fire of my wrath, and

deliver thee into the hand of brutish men, andskilful to destroy.32. Thou shalt be for fuel to the fire; thy blood shall be in the midst of the land; thou shalt be no more

remembered: for I the LORD have spoken it.

    1. MOREOVER the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,2. Now, thou son of man, wilt thoujudge, wilt thoujudge the bloody city? yea, thou shalt shew her all her

abominations.3. Then say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD, The city sheddeth blood in the midst of it, that her time may

come, and maketh idols against herself to defile herself.

    4. Thou art become guilty in thy blood that thou hast shed; and hast defiled thyself in thine idols which thouhast made; and thou hast caused thy days to draw near, and art come even unto thy years: therefore have Imade thee a reproach unto the heathen, and a mocking to all countries.

    5. Thosethatbe near, and thosethatbe far from thee, shall mock thee, whichartinfamous andmuch vexed.6. Behold, the princes of Israel, every one were in thee to their power to shed blood.7. In thee have they set light by father and mother: in the midst of thee have they dealt by oppression with

the stranger: in thee have they vexed the fatherless and the widow.8. Thou hast despised mine holy things, and hast profaned my sabbaths.

THE BOOK OF THE PROPHET EZEKIEL Chapter 23

    14. And thatshe increased her whoredoms: for when she saw men pourtrayed upon the wall, the images of

the Chaldeans pourtrayed with vermilion,15. Girded with girdles upon their loins, exceeding in dyed attire upon their heads, all of them princes to

look to, after the manner of the Babylonians of Chaldea, the land of their nativity:16. And as soon as she saw them with her eyes, she doted upon them, and sent messengers unto them into

Chaldea.17.And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they defiled her with their whoredom, and she

was polluted with them, and her mind was alienated from them.18. So she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: then my mind was alienated from her,

like as my mind was alienated from her sister.19. Yet she multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to remembrance the days of her youth, wherein she had

played the harlot in the land of Egypt.

    20. For she doted upon their paramours, whose flesh isas the flesh of asses, and whose issue islike the issueof horses.

    21. Thus thou calledst to remembrance the lewdness of thy youth, in bruising thy teats by the Egyptians forthe paps of thy youth.

    22. Therefore, O Aholibah, thus saith theLord GOD; Behold, I will raise up thy lovers against thee, fromwhom thy mind is alienated, and I will bring them against thee on every side;

    23. The Babylonians, and all the Chaldeans, Pekod, and Shoa, and Koa, andall the Assyrians with them: allof them desirable young men, captains and rulers, great lords and renowned, all of them riding uponhorses.

    24. And they shall come against thee with chariots, wagons, and wheels, and with an assembly of people, which shall set against thee buckler and shield and helmet round about: and I will set judgment before

them, and they shalljudge thee according to their judgments.25. And I will set my jealousy against thee, and they shall deal furiously with thee: they shall take away thy

nose and thine ears; and thy remnant shall fall by the sword: they shall take thy sons and thy daughters;and thy residue shall be devoured by the fire.

    26. They shall also strip thee out of thy clothes, and take away thy fair jewels.

  • 8/6/2019 Only the LORD, Shall Judge Us... ( Done )

    20/45

    27. Thus will I make thy lewdness to cease from thee, and thy whoredom broughtfrom the land of Egypt: sothat thou shalt not lift up thine eyes unto them, nor remember Egypt any more.

    28. For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will deliver thee into the hand ofthem whom thou hatest, into thehand ofthem from whom thy mind is alienated:

    29. And they shall deal with thee hatefully, and shall take away all thy labour, and shall leave thee nakedand bare: and the nakedness of thy whoredoms shall be discovered, both thy lewdness and thywhoredoms.

    30. I will do these things unto thee, because thou hast gone a whoring after the heathen, andbecause thou art

polluted with their idols.31. Thou hast walked in the way of thy sister; therefore will I give her cup into thine hand.32. Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou shalt drink of thy sisters cup deep and large: thou shalt be laughed to

scorn and had in derision; it containeth much.33. Thou shalt be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, with the cup of astonishment and desolation, with the

cup of thy sister Samaria.34. Thou shalt even drink it and suckitout, and thou shalt break the sherds thereof, and pluck off thine own

breasts: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.

    35. Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast forgotten me, and cast me behind thy back, therefore bear thou also thy lewdness and thy whoredoms.

    36. The LORD said moreover unto me; Son of man, wilt thoujudge Aholah and Aholibah? yea, declareunto them their abominations;

    37. That they have committed adultery, and blood is in their hands, and with their idols have they committedadultery, and have also caused their sons, whom they bare unto me, to pass for them through thefire, todevourthem.

    38. Moreover this they have done unto me: they have defiled my sanctuary in the same day, and haveprofaned my sabbaths.

    39. For when they had slain their children to their idols, then they came the same day into my sanctuary toprofane it; and, lo, thus have they done in the midst of mine house.

    40. And furthermore, that ye have sent for men to come from far, unto whom a messengerwas sent; and, lo,they came: for whom thou didst wash thyself, paintedst thy eyes, and deckedst thyself with ornaments,

    41. And satest upon a stately bed, and a table prepared before it, whereupon thou hast set mine incense andmine oil.42. And a voice of a multitude being at ease was with her: and with the men of the common sort were

brought Sabeans from the wilderness, which put bracelets upon their hands, and beautiful crowns upontheir heads.

    43. Then said I unto herthatwas old in adulteries, Will they now commit whoredoms with her, and she withthem?

    44. Yet they went in unto her, as they go in unto a woman that playeth the harlot: so went they in untoAholah and unto Aholibah, the lewd women.

    45. And the righteous men, they shalljudge them after the manner of adulteresses, and after the manner ofwomen that shed blood; because they are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands.

    46. For thus saith the Lord GOD

; I will bring up a company upon them, and will give them to be removedand spoiled.47. And the company shall stone them with stones, and dispatch them with their swords; they shall slay their

sons and their daughters, and burn up their houses with fire.48. Thus will I cause lewdness to cease out of the land, that all women may be taught not to do after your

lewdness.49. And they shall recompense your lewdness upon you, and ye shall bear the sins of your idols: and ye shall

know that I am the Lord GOD.

    12. She hath wearied herselfwith lies, and her great scum went not forth out of her: her scumshallbe in thefire.

    13. In thy filthiness is lewdness: because I have purged thee, and thou wast not purged, thou shalt not be

purged from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my fury to rest upon thee.14. I the LORD have spoken it: it shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back, neither will I spare,

neither will I repent; according to thy ways, and according to thy doings, shall theyjudge thee, saith theLord GOD.

    15. Also the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,16. Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke: yet neither shalt thou

mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.17. Forbear to cry, make no mourning for the dead, bind the tire of thine head upon thee, and put on thy

shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men.18. So I spake unto the people in the morning: and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was

    11. For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out.12. As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep thatare scattered; so will I

seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudyand dark day.13. And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to

their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited placesof the country.

    14. I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shallthey lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel.

    15. I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord GOD.16. I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up thatwhich

was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feedthem with judgment.

    17. And asforyou, O my flock, thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, Ijudge between cattle and cattle, betweenthe rams and the he goats.

    18. Seemethita small thing unto you to have eaten up the good pasture, but ye must tread down with yourfeet the residue of your pastures? and to have drunk of the deep waters, but ye must foul the residue withyour feet?

    19. And asformy flock, they eat that which ye have trodden with your feet; and they drink that which yehave fouled with your feet.

    20. Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD unto them; Behold, I, even I, willjudge between the fat cattle andbetween the lean cattle.

    21. Because ye have thrust with side and with shoulder, and pushed all the diseased with your horns, till yehave scattered them abroad;

    22. Therefore will I save my flock, and they shall no more be a prey; and I will judge between cattle and

cattle.23. And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed

them, and he shall be their shepherd.24. And I the LORD will be their God, and my servant David a prince among them; I the LORD have spoken

and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods.26. And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come

down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.27. And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase, and they shall be safe

in their land, and shall know that I am the LORD, when I have broken the bands of their yoke, anddelivered them out of the hand of those that served themselves of them.

    28. And they shall no more be a prey to the heathen, neither shall the beast of the land devour them; but theyshall dwell safely, and none shall make them afraid.

    29. And I will raise up for them a plant of renown, and they shall be no more consumed with hunger in theland, neither bear the shame of the heathen any more.

    30. Thus shall they know that I the LORD their God am with them, and thatthey, even the house of Israel, are my people, saith the Lord GOD.

    31. And ye my flock, the flock of my pasture, are men, andI am your God, saith the Lord GOD.

THE BOOK OF THE PROPHET EZEKIEL Chapter 44

    20. Neither shall they shave their heads, nor suffer their locks to grow long; they shall only poll their heads.

    21. Neither shall any priest drink wine, when they enter into the inner court.22. Neither shall they take for their wives a widow, nor her that is put away: but they shall take maidens ofthe seed of the house of Israel, or a widow that had a priest before.

    23. And they shall teach my people thedifference between the holy and profane, and cause them to discernbetween the unclean and the clean.

    24. And in controversy they shall stand in judgment; andthey shalljudge it according to my judgments: andthey shall keep my laws and my statutes in all mine assemblies; and they shall hallow my sabbaths.

    25. And they shall come at no dead person to defile themselves: but for father, or for mother, or for son, orfor daughter, for brother, or for sister that hath had no husband, they may defile themselves.

    26. And after he is cleansed, they shall reckon unto him seven days.27. And in the day that he goeth into the sanctuary, unto the inner court, to minister in the sanctuary, he shall

offer his sin offering, saith the Lord GOD.28. And it shall be unto them for an inheritance: I am their inheritance: and ye shall give them no possession

in Israel: I am their possession.29. They shall eat the meat offering, and the sin offering, and the trespass offering; and every dedicated

thing in Israel shall be theirs.30. And the first of all the firstfruits of all things, and every oblation of all, of everysortof your oblations,

shall be the priests: ye shall also give unto the priest the first of your dough, that he may cause theblessing to rest in thine house.

    31. The priests shall not eat of any thing that is dead of itself, or torn, whether it be fowl or beast.
