The Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (Trade Marks and Designs), OHIM, is the official trade mark and design office of the European Union. OHIM registers the Community trade mark (CTM) and registered Community Design (RCD), which provide trade mark and design protection at the EU level. EU level protection, offered by OHIM, coexists with national level protection in each of the EU Member States, and regional level in the case of the Benelux. OHIM’s portal (www.oami.europa.eu) provides access to advanced online solutions and databases for an optimal, secure and efficient CTM and RCD management.

OHIM and its EU national and regional IP office partners have developed the European Trade Mark and Design Network (ETMDN) databases, which encompass powerful, free, online search engines. The data-bases provide a wealth of information on trade mark, design and classification issues, from the EU and beyond.

The Enforcement Database (EDB) is a secure database which helps enforcement authorities to recognise counterfeit goods.

Rights holders can protect their products by entering relevant information (packaging, identi-fiers, contact information...) that will help authorities to identify counterfeits and take action.

Companies have full control of the information they choose to share with authorities.

EDB can automatically generate prefilled Applications for Action for customs to take action on their behalf.
