What is child grooming?
• Child grooming is the action of deliberately befriending and creating an emotional connection with a child, in order to persuade the child into sexual activity or exploitation.
Online…• With the development of WEB 2.0 the society has a
chance to communicate with others worldwide.• Sex offenders have taken advantage of this by using
popular social networking websites such as Facebook, Myspace, AOL, Bebo and Msn.
• Websites such as these are used by a young audience, especially girls aged 11-16
• Over 300 complaints were reported in 2009 about protecting young children on Facebook
The Facts…• 25% of children and young people say that they have
met up with someone that they have spoken to online. • 80% of children access of the internet alone. While over
22% have access to the internet in their bedrooms. • In the UK last year, 29,973 people were on the sex
offenders register

• Parental blocking systems on the internet. Parents are able to filter websites their children cannot access
