One Thousand Cities, One Million Multiplying Disciples

We exist to encourage and empower these leaders to step into their God-given role as a transformational leader—to experience life to the full, not satisfied by status or success, but by stepping deeply into the call of God’s plan that was uniquely designed for them. As these leaders join with others, integrate their faith into their home and work life and form a vision for their city, we believe that God will use us to transform our cities, nations, and ultimately the world for Christ.

For many years the church has not been as intentional as it could be in reaching and equipping the influencers

of society. Now we are entering a new phase of missions—to empower leaders in society to create change within the mission field of the workplace. This is why we are focused on reaching the top 20% of society’s leaders, those that have an influence over the economy, education, government—in fact all sectors of society. Our vision is to see 1000 of these Christ-centered multiplying leaders in 1000 cites reaching others for Christ by the end of 2020. We prioritize reaching the city, as this is the heart of where culture change happens and where over half the world’s population lives.

We are called to use our lives to make a difference in the world for God’s kingdom. Augustine said that there are two kingdoms in every city—the kingdom of man and the kingdom of God. LeaderImpact is about helping leaders leverage their lives for God’s kingdom.

While all people are important to God, we focus on that top 20% who have influence and can facilitate reaching the remaining 80% with the good news of Jesus Christ. Because these leaders of influence are most often found in the cities of the world,

LeaderImpact has chosen to place priority on cities—the centers of culture and influence.

If a Christian leader does not take his faith into his work, it appears that the gospel has no effect on life. This results in a widespread loss of appreciation for the relevance of Christianity to the emotional, social, scientific and economic spheres of life.

So, we as LeaderImpact are concerned with a holistic approach. You might say we are interested in the LIFE of a leader: How he or she uses his or her Leadership, Influence, Finances and Expertise for the kingdom of God.

What do you need in order to succeed as a leader involved in LeaderImpact?

First, you need a Kingdom Vision or a visionary context. What is a kingdom vision? It just means: I am attaching my life and priorities to something bigger than me. In fact, only Jesus’ kingdom vision is big enough to draw out the best in us. Second, it’s best to discover, and accomplish, big kingdom vision with a smaller group of people, who are trustworthy like-minded partners. Let’s call that a Mission Focused Community.

The third thing you need is some kind of simple Plan. You are encouraged to develop a basic plan, an organizational structure to support it, an annual schedule and the resources to realize the vision. The fourth thing every growing believer needs is Ongoing Learning. What do you need to learn? For example, you may want

to learn how to share your faith in your workplace. Perhaps you would like training in how to share your testimony, or how to ask and answer hard questions. This level of discipleship happens in the mission focused community—in fact, most mission-focused communities like this will fail without ongoing equipping and discipleship.

Fifth, engage at least one person to become a Coach to you and/or your team. In practical terms, that could be a LeaderImpact staff member or work place leader who is a little bit farther down the road than you in one or more areas. Everyone who excels has multiple people who build into their lives.

So, what does this plan look like? Well, in the most basic terms, the strategy has four parts—Expose, Win, Build, Send. During the course of a year you will be involved in building relational connections with people in society, winning people to Christ, building them in their faith and sending them out to win and build others.

Who Is Involved With LeaderImpact?The LeaderImpact strategy starts with mission-focused communities.

These communities are groups of leaders who have a calling to see a spiritual movement among leaders in their city. The city movement is led by qualified leaders, who fulfill several roles. It has a minimum of three leaders known as “partners”, who will serve as event hosts, group leaders, and in other roles as needed.

Who should help lead this city movement? People with the following interests and abilities:v Men and women who are already

reaching their friends for Christ, and possess a deep, growing faith in Jesus.

v Those who have demonstratedleadership ability shown by achieving a senior level role in their career of choice.

v Those who desire to contribute time,money, expertise and influence.

v Those who have the ability to committo a minimum of two years on the team and approximately 10 hours per month.

LeaderImpact is in many major cities around the world, and is led by business leaders, government officials, educators and professionals such as physicians and attorneys. These city teams are often coached by a LeaderImpact staff or work place leader who helps create systems for communication, operations and training.

Whether you are a new believer, a seasoned veteran, or are just now beginning to explore the relevance of faith in your life, there is a place for you in LeaderImpact. All it takes is a willing spirit and the desire to make a difference in the world.

Joey Carlos

Joey Carlos

On the outside Joey Carlos may seem like any other business leader. He lives in Manila, works as an engineer; he has a wife and two children.

However, the difference is Joey has used his career and leadership skills to share the gospel with hundreds.

Joey’s story began several years ago: “I was building a house for a Christian man. One afternoon I asked him, “Is it true that a person can be saved and never lose his salvation?” He asked me, “Would you like to know the truth?”, and without hesitation, I said, “yes.” We went to a restaurant and using a booklet called the Four Spiritual Laws, he shared the truth with me. When I realized that the Bible clearly teaches that Jesus Christ is Lord, I immediately accepted Him as my personal Savior and Lord.”

Joey was so grateful, he asked how he could also share the good news of Christ.

The man handed him Four Spiritual Law booklets to share with his friends. The same day, Joey shared the Four Laws with his wife and led her to Christ. The next day, he shared the Gospel with his two teenagers and also led them to the Lord. Joey was on fire for God and wanted to share the Gospel with as many people as he could, including his landscape contractor, his brother, his sister-in-law and his mother, all of whom came to know the Lord.

In the weeks to follow, Joey shared the Gospel with all of the workers on his project sites in Makati City. He shared Jesus with the head project engineer and then together they led 120 workers to Christ. In two months time, Joey had shared his faith with almost 300 people.

God is enabling Joey to share his faith in all aspects of his life. Discipleship has become part of his life and he is devoted to seeing Jesus known around the world.

Italia Vergara

Italia Vergara is a single mother of two, a business woman focusing on education, and a dynamic voice for Christ in the workplace.

Italia came to know the Lord in 2006 after going through a hard divorce. When she became a Christian, her role in her company changed dramatically. She now uses her company to make disciples for Jesus. Part of the Christ-integration in her company is a lunch for the lost on Wednesdays where Italia has the opportunity to share the gospel with her staff.

Italia also owns several schools that teach English and Spanish as a second language. The schools are used to share the gospel to both employees and students. The language and training they use is called emotional and spiritual training, and all employees must take it in the first three months of working there. They have seen several people come to the Lord.

In 2004 Italia worked with LeaderImpact Canada when they visited Panama City. LeaderImpact shared about how they integrate faith into the workplace. At first, Italia felt that she was too busy to get involved but was challenged to take another step of faith. Later she was asked to become the director of LeaderImpact for Panama City.

Italia partners with LeaderImpact staff members to reach leaders in her city for the Lord. Today she not only integrates her faith into her workplace but also her home life, coaching and teaching individuals in her home. Italia has had a great impact for the Lord in Panama City, and continues to look for ways to share the Gospel with the lost.
