From the Pastor’s Desk 2

Dear Parishioners, After 16 years as pastor here at St. Clement Parish, it is difficult to leave the parish. You are my parish family -- so many good works and memories along with struggles, but that is the vocation to imitate Christ in the priesthood. But you know when we, as priests, reach the age of 75, by Canon Law, we have to send in a letter of resignation to the Bishop. I did that over a half year ago. The Bishop now has accepted that letter of resignation. It is supposed to be "retirement," whatever that means. That word and idea really scares me. Officially "retired," but I will be helping out whenever a parish needs weekend or weekday Mass assistance. I will be living at St. Boniface Rectory. That address is: St. Boniface Rectory, 418 North Wabash Avenue, Evansville, IN 47712-5240 St. Boniface does not have a land line. The office for the Parish is located at St. Agnes Church. That phone number is 812-423-1721. But I will give you my cell phone number, 812-774-6058. Please stay in touch. Call or visit me anytime. We believe there have been many great things done during these 16 years, and great progress made. After many long years, much planning and much sacrifice, our new church was built during these years, of which I am most proud. We truly believe we have a really beautiful new church for our worship of our God. The total cost of the church was three million dollars. We had to borrow 1.1 million dollars from the diocese to complete our new church. As I leave, we only owe to the diocese about $20,000, which is truly amazing. Again thank you for your generosity. Of course, we could not have done that without your generosity and sacrifice. As I told you several months back, I see the church totally paid off before the end of this calendar year. WE PRAISE AND THANK GOD. ALLELUIA !! Most of the time, yes, our budget was very tight, but I leave with our finances in pretty good shape. We still now have to pay the diocese for not reaching our CPC goal for these years, but plans are now in our fiscal budget to pay that off. And with our loan to the diocese for the new church in sight to be paid off, our Finance Council has approved to move all the fund raisers for the new church (Fall Raffle, Auction, 4-H Food Stand, 5K Run/Walk, SCRIP) over into the Operating Budge. Looks very promising to have a balanced budget this year. Also our Sunday Tithing Collection has gone up almost each year since the merger. 2014 -- $266,600.40 2015 -- 297,904.48 2016 -- 296,077.25 2017 -- 301,843.95 2018 -- 319,753.90 Thanks for this huge jump of over $20,000 during this present fiscal year. And, as of this writing, we have one more Sunday collection to add to this. A little over four years ago, we had the merger of St. Clement and St. Rupert. In keeping all parishioners informed about the merger as we planned, worried, wondered what the merger would bring, and prayed often, the merger went rather smoothly. I thank you for your good attitude and acceptance of this merger. I can't remember, but I think we lost only very few parishioners over this merger. And we have new parishioners over these years. I think this merger has made us a strong vibrant faith family always trying to improve. Let's continue to grow. Thanks again. We built, we merged. That's easy to see change and progress. When it comes to faith, that is much more difficult to measure faith growth, because we can't see faith grow like a building being constructed. But I do think we have grown in our faith with such things as Lenten Eucharistic Adoration, Lenten Educational programs, reading a book during Lent, Good Shepherd Prayer Apostolate, daily Mass, stressing the importance of the Eucharist, etc. God sees. We let God judge. So let's continue to turn to God in our spiritual needs and continue to grow in faith. I want to say thanks to everybody for all your kindness to me, but where do I begin and end. If I start naming people, it would certainly fall short and offend some. So I include everybody from staff, Parish Council, Finance Council, all the Liturgical Ministers, choir, Men's Club, Ladies Club, St. Vincent de Paul, Knights of Columbus, youth and youth groups, all who volunteered on any committer, mowed the lawns, all financial givers, all who prayed (especially for me, for one said, " Father is so bad, he sure needs many prayers"). Like I said Sunday, June 17, in the homily about the gospel. During these 16 years I have planted, cultivated and fertilized the Word of God faithfully, and I believe with the approval of God. God takes care of the growth of the seed. We have to open our hearts and souls to God's growth. I pray that this continues to happen in your life also until harvest time, when we all have to give an account of that growth before God. I keep you in my prayers daily, especially at the Eucharist. I ask that you pray for me. If I can help you in any way in the future, please don't hesitate to ask. I will be living at St. Boniface Rectory. You are always welcome there. In Christ,

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Pray & Play: Registration forms for our 2nd Annual Pray & Play Event on Saturday, July 14th, from 8:30-12:15 are now available in the narthex. Please register by June 18th to allow us time to get enough supplies and materials for everyone. The kids and volunteers had a lot of fun last year. Contact me if you'd like to help out with registration, snacks, games, lessons, or crafts.

KIDS KORNER SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM The Kids Korner Summer Lunch program became all summer long when funding for the public schools’ summer lunch program was eliminated. The meals are served at City Lake Park, Boonville. The commitment is more than one church alone can handle, so volunteers are again requested from area churches. Our week to help is July 16-20. We still need one more person to help in the kitchen each day, and three more people to volunteer to drive the food to the park and help serve it. Please sign up on the sheet in the St. Clement Church narthex. The meal preparation is being done at Main Street United Methodist Church. There is a Procedures booklet on the table in the St. Clement narthex to answer any questions you might have.

Good Shepherd Prayer Apostolate On the fourth Thursday of each month we pray in St. Clement Church, hourly, from 6:00 am to midnight —for our current priests to be Good Shepherds, to feel strengthened by our prayers, and uplifted by our support --for more vocations to the priesthood --and the intentions of our Bishop.

Leave routine behind & feel closer to God!

We would like to have several people for each hour. Everyone is invited to come and spend some time in prayer June 28.

*If you feel silent prayer for an hour is too challenging, there is a variety of religious reading materials available in church and the narthex (gathering area). There are also rosaries available by the bulletin board with pamphlets on how to pray the rosary, if you wish to use that prayer form. Also, if you cannot stay an entire hour, come for as long as you wish.

FREE ROSARIES in St. Clement church narthex—provided by our Rosary Making Group.

“The rosary is my favorite form of prayer.” Pope St. John Paul II

This Fish story starts out this way. No kidding, at the Knights of Co-lumbus fishing tournament conducted on May 19th 2018 for Special Needs People of all ages and all Special Needs, a unique situation presented itself. The largest fish was caught 3 times (twice by Trent Bitter). That is under-standable as the rules of the tourna-ment require all fish caught to be re-leased back into the lake. When it came time to present the trophy for the largest fish caught it went to Keil O’Brian. At that point we discovered that Trent Bitter had caught the same fish (twice) and had earned a trophy for the largest fish. The MC of the awards ceremony acted immediately and told Trent and his parents we would get another trophy for Trent. On June 6, 2018 and with a “Big” assist from Tri-State Trophy’s Trent received his Trophy in a small cere-mony conducted at St. Clement Social Hall. Congratulations Trent !

Annual Rummage Sale—June 22 & 23.

Our Rummage Sale got a very promising start this year. We received lots of furni-ture, tools and toys as well as the usual clothes and household items.

We thank Julie Malone and Theresa Pittman for being the co-chairs of this fundraiser that helps us all — donors get to de-clutter their homes and ga-rages and buyers get to take home those items they were looking for at a real bargain of a price! Thank you to everyone who donated to our success!!
