Staying for three nightsat the seaside

The base for our trip is the popular Victorian holiday town of Aberystwyth, where we will be staying in the three star seafront hotel Belle Vue Royal Hotel.Aberystwyth’s origins date back to the Iron age, and King Henry1 thought the town of such significance that he strengthened his power base in the area by building a castle. Henry V used this castle to hold prisoners from the battle of Agincourt. In more recent times Prince Charles attended the university which also houses the National Welsh Library.

Tucked away down a little lane, Ynyshir Hall plays host to the definitive collection of Wellingtonii in the UK. A secret garden where you will find many rare varieties of exotic and native trees and shrubs. It’s no wonder that Queen Victoria loved these beautiful gardens, stunningly located between the mountains and the estuary. The azaleas and rhododendrons provide an impressive explosion of colour, a fantastic place for us to enjoy our cream team and a moment to relax from our hectic schedule. Enjoy this little known “Royal Garden” where Queen Victoria is reputed to have personally planted the Persian Ironwood.

A Dutch Garden in the heart of Wales, envisaged designed and created by just one man. After visiting the RHS Garden Wisley Wil Akkerman dreamed of creating his own garden and opening it to the public. Now over 30 years later the dream is a reality and an outstanding success. His labour of love has matured into one of Wales’ most acclaimed gardens, and in 2004 Cae Hir proudly accepted an invitation by the RHS to become a partner garden.

Lampeter is an essential stop on any visit to West Wales. Enjoy the atmosphere of this largely unspoilt Welsh Market town or stroll through the grounds of the University with it’s neo gothic style old building modelled on the Oxford quadrangle. There’s plenty of places to choose from for a light lunch serving traditional Welsh dishes.

LlanerchaeronThis rare example of a self-sufficient Welsh gentry estate has survived virtually unaltered. The villa designed in the 1790’s is the most complete example of the early work of John Nash.It has it’s own service courtyard and diary, laundry, brewery, salting house, and walled gardens. The pleasure grounds, ornamental lake and parkland provide peaceful walks. The working organic farm has Welsh Black cattle, Llanwenog sheep and rare Welsh pigs.
