olive branch is in the other. There are 13

leaves on the branch. There are 13 olives.

There are 13 stars above the eagle. There

are 13 red and white stripes on the flag.

It has a bald eagle on it. That is our national bird.

It is used for important papers.

There is a ribbon. It is in the eagle’s beak. It has words on it. They mean “Out of many,

one.” Many states. Many people. One nation!

2. Using a pencil, underline the words that stand for the object that means “peace” on page 5.

3. Why do you think the number 13 is used so much (the arrows, the stars, the stripes, the leaves and olives) on the Great Seal? Do you think that the Seal has something to do with bravery or courage? Tell your teacher or your partner your answer.8
