Founded in 1946 by a group of metallurgists led by Dr. D.P. Antia, IIM is the largest professional organization for metallurgist in India with over 8000 members from R&D laboratories, academia and industry. The two main objectives of IIM are: promoting and advancing the science and technology of metals and alloys and protecting the interests of metallurgists and metallurgical industry. Sandip Institute of Engineering and Management (SIEM) is located in the scenic, eco-friendly and conductive-to-study campus at an elevation off the Trimbak Road (Mahiravani, Nasik) leading to one of the twelve renowned pilgrimages of jyotirlingas known as Trimbakeshwar (abode of Lord Shiva) at the foot hills of Brahmagiri mountain ranges. Sandip Institute of Engineering and Management (SIEM) is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India, New Delhi and permanently affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University. At SIEM, the focus is on Interactive Teaching- Learning, Faculty Empowerment, Students overall development, which includes, Soft Skills, On the Job Training, Industrial Projects, Industrial Visits so that learning is application oriented and students develop the necessary skills. IIM, Pune Chapter is one of the oldest chapters of IIM, established in 1947 under the leadership of Prof. G. K. Ogale, a distinguished metallurgist and the then Principal of College of Engineering, Pune. The activities of Pune Chapter include organizing the topical seminars by leading experts from India and abroad and specialized symposia, workshops and seminars like this one, on the topics of current interest to local industries. Every Year Sandip Foundation in association Indian Institute of Metals, Pune Chapter is organizing National level Workshops on various topics of Industry -Institute Interest. The response from the Industries and academics is encouraging at the Nashik Satellite Centre. We feel proud to provide a platform for potential manufacturers catering the requirements of various industries in and around, Nashik. Also the academicians are able to expedite their research activities by interacting with the distinguished speakers and sponsors. Metallography is essentially the science of the internal structure of metallic materials, broadly understood to include the examination and identification of grains, phases or interfaces and crystal orientations of a metal, as well as its non-metallic inclusions and voids, corrosion crusts and patinas. The technique traditionally relies on the sampling of an object to remove a representative sample, which is then mounted, ground, polished and etched for examination of the microstructure under the optical microscope. This principle procedural method is still valid, but there has been a drastic change over the decades from exclusively optically microscopical examination of microstructure to methods based on electron and ion beams or X-rays. In recent years, we have seen the emergence of new powerful techniques such as electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), which are capable of identifying and characterizing quantitatively all microstructural components by automated high-speed pattern acquisition. Hence, metallography is not confined merely to microscopical examination but also comprises methods to reveal structure and mechanical properties of metals and alloys. 5. Mechanical department has a team of highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty members who strive to give their 100 percent. The average experience of faculties in the department is more than 15 years with PhD qualification. Team Mechanical is committed for uplifting the students of Mechanical Engineering. Our team was awarded 1st rank at SAE BAJA, A National event for All Terrain Vehicle ( ATV ) at IIT Roopar. Mechanical department has been involved in organizing events to promote close interaction between industries and our institute, to enable effective teaching learning process ultimately aiming the paradigm shift from teaching to learning.
