IIM, Pune Chapter is one of the oldest chapters of IIM,

established in 1947 under the leadership of

Prof. G. K. Ogale, a distinguished metallurgist and the

then Principal of College of Engineering, Pune.

The activities of Pune Chapter include organizing the

topical seminars by leading experts from India and

abroad and specialized symposia, workshops and

seminars like this one, on the topics of current interestto local industries.

This is fifth year in succession, where in Sandip Foundation

in association Indian Institute of Metals, Pune Chapter is

organizing National level Workshops on various topics

of Industry -Institute Interest. Last four years response

from the Industries and academics was encouraging at

the Nashik Satellite Centre.

Casting is the growing area. In this competitive era

improving resource efficiency by reducing energy and by

de-materialization becomes necessity. To achieve this,

development and standardization of advance processing

methods are going on. But in this development and

standardization of processes lot of challenges are involved.

The workshop is an attempt to bridge the gap between

industries and Institutes. Interaction of industrial experts

and Academicians on Advance processing and challenges

in casting is planned to address the key issues in casting.

Both, Ferrous and Non Ferrous metals and alloys would

be addressed during the workshop.

What to learn from the workshop?

The Indian Institute of Metals is a premier organization

representing materials and metallurgical engineers in

India. Founded in 1946 by a group of metallurgists led

by Dr. D.P. Antia, IIM is the largest professional

organization for metallurgist in India with over 8000

members from R&D laboratories, academia and

industry. The two main objectives of I IM are:

p r o m o t i n g a n d a d v a n c i n g t h e s c i e n c e a n d

technology of metals and alloys and protecting the

interests of metallurgists and metallurgical industry.

Sandip Foundation, formed on 07.05.2005 in Mumbai as

Charitable Trust under the Chairmanship of Honorable

Dr. Sandip Kumar Jha with a vision to render selfless,

dedicated and yeomen services to higher education in

the fields of Engineering, Management and Paramedical

Sciences. The trust has proved its proficiency in

education for last fifteen years.

At Sandip Foundation, the focus is on Interactive

Teaching-Learning, Faculty empowerment, on the job

training, Industrial Projects, Industrial Visits so that

learning is application oriented and students develop

the necessary skills. Sandip Foundation has been

involved in organizing events to promote close

interaction between industries and educational

institutions to enable effective teaching learning process

ultimately aiming the paradigm shift from teaching to

learning.

Sandip Foundation has started its own university known

as 'Sandip University' in 2016 with vision to have cutting

edge technology in higher education. Faculties and

students are focusing on the quality of education, that is

not just a university degree but the way of life .
