Once upon a time, a team led by Mangus, established a tribe near the Syueshan northern ridgeline --“Don-tai-ya-kan”.

In order to remember Mangus, the later generations named this tribe as “Smangus”.

The Koraw Ecoolgical Park near Smangus is a beautiful pristine forest which has abundant nature resource.

When walking on the trail, you can hear the nature symphony from mountain Scops-owl, white-faced flying squirrel, Formosan giant flying squirrel and other insect and frogs.

The “Atayal Ancestors' Souls cave” are special for the habitat of Taiwan greater horseshoe bat and Taiwan horseshoe bat.

Beside Koraw Ecoolgical Park, the giant trees forest is also a fascinating place to visit. Gem-faced civet, Formosan barking deer, Swinhoe's frog and Moltrechtis green tree frog can be observed in the forest.

Smangus tribe community locates in the deep mountain, with many artificial plantations. Outside the community has more secondary forest and pristine forest. Fern has high percentage of biomass due to the humid climate.

Antrophyum obovatum, Pilea plataniflora, Begonia grandis are the common species here.
