On the south-east coast of the Persian Gulf, Dubai is one of the seven Emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and is due to host the World Expo in 2020. Dubai’s World Expo 2020, is under the theme of “Connecting minds and creating the future,” and expects to attract over 25 million visitors across the six months from October 2020. The Expo is confirmed as “the” key meeting point and a global opportunity to share innovations. In preparation, Dubai has embarked on a huge construction project for Expo 2020, where everyone is buoyant about the amount of work. For example, Dubai has planned for a 27 km extension to the longest unmanned Metro line in the world and a further 150 hotels are scheduled for the city. To plan for the expected tourism numbers, 500,000 more employees will be required during the next two years to complete this project. These projects are already driving an increase in demand for construction machinery and associated hydraulic components and test equipment, which has been great news for Topland General Trading LLC, a relatively new hydraulic distributor in the gulf region.

These projects are already driving an increase in demand for construction machinery and associated hydraulic components and test equipment, which has been great news for Topland General Trading LLC, a relatively new hydraulic distributor in the gulf region.

Topland General Trading LLCTopland, based in Dubai offers a first class range of high-pressure hydraulic systems, fittings and test equipment and represents some of the best-known brands within the industry from a range of suppliers, including Webtec. It is their high level of both pre and post sales service that sets Topland apart from their competitors.

The business was established in Dubai in 2012 by the CEO Andy Faulkner, who has considerable experience across the hydraulic industries in the region. Catering for the key industry sectors which include oil and gas, shipbuilding, manufacturing, cement works, aircraft servicing, mining, steelmaking, wineries, hose manufacturing and truck repairs, Andy saw the opportunity for a highly service focused distributor to succeed.

The business was originally centred on the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, but recent high levels of business have been developed in both Lebanon and Egypt as they grow their presence in North Africa.

Understanding the benefits of preventative maintenanceTopland advocate a policy of preventative maintenance rather than dealing with problems after they occur. The use of preventative and diagnostic maintenance equipment on hydraulic machinery not only extends the life of the equipment but also reduces excessive costs incurred when a machine fails. As an example, a cement truck’s hydraulic system should be tested before it goes out on a job, especially with the high temperature range of this region. If the system fails and the cement sets inside the truck, the whole load will become a write-off. The equipment supplied by Topland saves its customers considerable losses both financially and to their reputation by ensuring the reliability of the hydraulic systems and delivering the performance to meet the needs of its customers.

Dubai; life and businessWith a Western style of business and its innovative large scale construction projects both on land and sea, Dubai is never far from the headlines. These factors combine to make Dubai the main business hub of the Persian Gulf region with income revenue being driven by markets such as tourism, real estate, financial services, aviation and oil.

Growth and future expectationsThe recession did hit Dubai, but later than the majority of the world, but that has now passed and business is booming again with a positive business effect throughout the city in the lead up to Expo 2020.

Plans are well advanced to open a dedicated Topland Service & Calibration centre for the MENA region later in 2015, which will further enhance Topland’s growing market presence and further assist in the one-stop shop that Topland is looking to provide to its growing client base.

CEO, Andy Faulkner explained, “Clients in the MENA region are very conscious of the need of having fully serviced and calibrated equipment ready for use at all times and with the setup of the hydraulic calibration unit here in Dubai, Topland will be in the leading position to provide the much needed support to the market”.
