IN MEMORIAM

Sylvia Jean (Brzostowski) Anderson

Our dear friend and fellow artist, Sylvia J. Anderson, passed to Glory on June 24, 2016, her earthly life interrupted by cancer

this past year. She was 76 years old. She was a talented artist and long-time member of NCAA. She was forthright and brusque in voice and manner, a unique soul who wore a beautiful and winsome smile! Sylvia was born in Jamestown, NY to the late Sigmond and Ivy Brzostowski. She married John Anderson and together they raised three children: daughters Mary Beth Hempel and Joni Lopez; and a son John Anderson. She is

also survived by sons-in-law John Hempel and Karl Lopez, and daughter-in-law Monica Anderson; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made in Sylvia's name to the American Cancer Society. https://donate.cancer.org/index We take great comfort that she is now in the light that guides her passage into God's warm embrace. She was a beautiful, spirited, joyful person, and we must remember that she has gone no further from us than to God, and God is very near.

Prayers of comfort to John and to the entire family. "She was a delightful person. She will be missed."

~Pam Trued

"She was so special and such a great artist. I will miss her, as we all will."

~Gay Lindquist "She was so giving of her time and effort for NCAA, too. A hard working... effervescent artist... I loved working with her."

~Ellie Farrington

"We lost a good artist, faithful friend, and great teacher."

~Barbara Omerod

"Dzień dobry, moja siostra polski." ... to which she would reply, "Ja ja ja!" Translation: "Good day, my Polish sister," ... "yes, yes, yes"

~Fred Buyarski

"From the first day I met Sylvia, I found her to be a complete breath of fresh air. I miss her."

~Cheryl Hipke Rest in Peace

"Only a moment you stayed, but what an imprint you left on our hearts."

As a butterfly graces our lives with one moment's fragile beauty, so too has your baby's presence blessed you, and those that surround you, with

her short life and unique spirit.

May you find comfort, peace, and joy with each butterfly that passes by, knowing that Jackson is with the Heavenly

Angels in perfect beauty and flying freely within your heart.

From all of us at NCAA, our heartfelt condolences.

"Being in the show has motivated me to work on more art work and to participate again." ~ Just Fred

"I am drawn to photography for a number of reasons. One of the most powerful is the ability to capture a moment in time, which allows me to re-experience it, if you will, in an entirely new way. It amazes me how much can happen in the blink of an eye. We can watch a dancer leap through the air and admire the grace and beauty of the movement, and know that we saw it, but freezing that motion shows us how much we didn't realize we saw." "Working with powder is a great way to capture motion. For this shoot, I used household baking flour and shot the images in a well-ventilated area (as flour is highly flammable and can be ignited by a hot strobe). The models were gymnasts who were comfortable jumping over and over again (timing is everything!), and who didn't mind getting dirty. We loaded up their hair and hands (and tutu) with flour and simply asked them to jump. For the third image titled Avalanche, we loaded a snow shovel with flour and threw it at the back of the model's head. Her poise and composure amidst an avalanche of flour made for a stunning image."

"I am proud of this series and of the adventurous models who love being a part of the creative process. It is an honor having my work accepted into the Juried Art Exhibit and to see my work hanging amongst that of so many other talented artists. There are a total of five images in the Flour Dance Series, all meant to show the beauty of motion and to serve as a reminder that life passes quickly - take care to appreciate the details!" ~ Michelle Krummel

Who says nothing actually happens

on Labor Day? Not the folks in Newnan! The posters are up, the music is lined up, a face painter is at the ready, Tina is doing beads for the kids, and all the restaurants and retail businesses in downtown Newnan are excited and organizers are hoping this will become an annual event! Using the footprint of Market Day, NCAA joins the South Metro Woodturners and the Artisans Heritage Guild for a Labor Day Arts Festival on Monday, September 5th, from 10am-4pm on the Square in downtown Newnan. What

a great way to help draw the summer to a close! We are still looking for a few more artists to join in! Information and details are on the application form. Inquiries may also be directed to Jenny Jones at The Corner Arts Gallery. A Note from Ellie "I am so proud of the support we received holding our first ARTS AND CRAFTS SHOW at Brookdale Senior Housing.

Residents turned out in grand style to show what they or their families had done in the past and some are still doing. I was impressed with everything, but personally enjoyed Rosemary Bradlees beaded bracelets and the creativity of Helen Dunham in preparing a visual showing us how to propagate an African Violet. She had violets in the various stages of development to show us."

"I was also proud of the NCAA who provided artists to help with very little advance notice. Their presence... sharing of their work... and help in the heavy work of preparing and tearing down was very impressive. I couldn't have done it without the help provided by Rusty Sharp and Bruce DeFelix along with

those who shared their work. The Art Community and Brookdale residents made a great team and brought joy and excitement to the facility and to the community!"

GUEST PRESENTER — TIFFANY THOMAS

Contemporary American Painter

Artist/Instructor

http://www.tiffanythomasart.com

"I draw my inspiration pre-dominately from nature, as you will see with my abstracted treescapes and traditional plein air paint-ings. My use of bold colors and sense of visual move-ment ties my body of work together. Whether I am painting from nature, cars, or animals, the simple yet complex act of painting is my true motivation."

"I primarily work in Acrylic paints, but I have rediscovered a love for thick oil paints, drips, and textures. I like to go between the two mediums depending on which will lend itself best to the painting. My work is ever evolving into something that is completely me." Tiffany has been a member of NCAA since 2014. She is Admin Assistant with the Newnan ArtRez Program, and together with her husband, Matthew, owns Thomas Fine Art and Design. In 2015, she received Top 10 Honors at the NCAA Juried Art Show. Her work can be found in Galleries and venues across the Atlanta area. She exhibits as part of group events and as a solo artist. For information about classes, workshops, and commissions, contact [email protected] or visit her website.

are currently featured at the PTC Library in a solo show that opened in mid-July as part of the Library’s Art Initiative. The paintings will be on display through August 31st. The

Fayetteville resident studied at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in southern China in the 1960s, along with fellow artist Meihua Lu, who became his wife. Both have been working artists ever since. Meihua Lu’s work is scheduled to be shown at the library in 2017. Many of the paintings on display are watercolor works and Chinese ink brush works. Much of his artwork also incorporates another of his talents, calligraphy.

Coming in September: Selected work from the collection from the Library of Congress of Mike Geissinger, photojournalist.

While assigned to the White House and while working as a freelance photojournalist for the New York Times, he compiled portraits of noted power brokers, capturing the subjects at their most expressive moments. A graduate of RIT, Mike taught photojournalism there for 15 years mentoring 5 future Pulitzer Prize winners. The reception is Friday, Sept 9th, 7-8:30pm

Artist in Residence ~ Molly Rose Freeman, Muralist

Artist Molly Rose Freeman arrived in Newnan in early July with paintbrush in hand and a number of ideas to spruce up the wall of the building along West Court Street at the Alamo. The mural was commissioned by the University of West Georgia and Newnan ArtRez, the local non-profit which sponsors visiting artists in the Program. The design for the mural was agreed upon by University reps, members of the ArtRez board, and owners of several downtown businesses. The mural is a series of geometric shapes reminiscent of flowers or mandalas in an arching pattern that mimics nearby building facades, and the colors blend beautifully with the natural surroundings of downtown Newnan. NCAA artists were invited to participate in the mural painting.
