PRESIDENT’SCOMMENTS

April 2017◦ Volume VIII, Issue 4 Page 2 of 6 Ft. Campbell Chapter ◦ Military Officer's Association of America

“Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it.” Thomas Paine - The American Crisis, No. 4, September 12, 1777.

“Nail one’s colors to the mast” was the way John Paul Jones on USS Bonhomme Richard battled HMS Serapis, off Flamborough Head. Win-ning teams have players who put the good of the team ahead of themselves. They want to play in their area of strength, butthey’re willing to do what it takesto take care of the team. In Ten-nessee, the Veterans' Legisla-tion issue is far from over, and we must continue to let our State Senators and Representa-tives know where we stand. Keep the good fight.

In Kentucky, the Real ID Act passed, which makes it easier for Kentucky driver’s license holders to obtain on-post ac-cess.

During the April & May, Chapter members will be at-tending several ceremonies in Kentucky and Tennessee to present high-school JROTC awards.

The City of Hopkinsville and Christian County have declared April 6th as World War I Centen-nial Day and encourage all citi-zens to remember and com-memorate America’s entry in to the Great war and the sacrificesmade by its citizens.

Congratulations to Sherry Pickering. She was honored with the 2016 Governor’s Volun-teer Stars Award and County Proclamation. Much apprecia-tion goes to Sherry, an Ameri-can Patriot and a truly ser-vice-minded citizen with a love of community and her country.

April 23-29 is National Vol-unteer Week . Know a person who volunteers their time and energy? Thank them for their ef-forts to make life better for all of us.

….Never Stop Serving

Discussion topics were: delinquent Chapter dues; raising dues?; meeting locations; inviting ROTC scholarship recipients to meetings; Edwards meal must change; National MOAA speakers; September POW/MIA weekend options; Wounded Warrior speaker no show; donations to charities; updating history on chapter website; ROTC Awards in good shape—locally made certificates will save money; update on legislation issues; magnetic sign purchases; and wreaths for Memorial Day. MAJ Vivian Fivecoat presented her resignation as Chapter Secretary for the good of the Chapter. LTC Tim Powers to become Secretary. A new Treasurer is needed.
