What you have come to is nothing known to the senses: not a blazing fire, or a gloom turning to total darkness, or a storm; or trumpeting thunder or the great voice speaking which made everyone that heard it beg that no more should be said to them. But what you have come to is Mount Zion and the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem where the millions of angels have gathered for the festival, with the whole Church in which everyone is a first- born sonand a citizen of heaven. You have come to God himself, the supreme Judge, and been placed with spirits of the saints who have been made perfect; and to Jesus, the mediator who brings a new covenant. Alleluia, alleluia! Take my yoke upon you; learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart. Alleluia! On a sabbath day Jesus had gone for a meal to the house of one of the leading Pharisees; and they watched him closely. He then told the guests a parable, because he had noticed how they picked the places of honour. He said this, When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take your seat in the place of honour. A more distinguished person than you may have been invited, and the person who invited you both may come and say, Give up your place to this man.And then, to your embarrassment, you would have to go and take the lowest place. No; when you are a guest, make your way to the lowest place and sit there, so that, when your host comes, he may say, My friend, move up higher. In that way, everyone with you at the table will see you honoured. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the man who humbles himself will be exalted. Then he said to his host, When you give a lunch or a dinner, do not ask your friends, brothers, relations or rich neighbours, for fear they repay your courtesy by inviting you in return. No; when you have a party, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; that they cannot pay you back means that you are fortunate, because repayment will be made to you when the virtuous rise again. The scriptural quotations are taken from the Jerusalem Bible, published and copyright 1966, 1967 and 1968 by Darton Longman and Todd Ltd and Doubleday & Co Inc, and used by permission of the publishers. We do accept electronic donations online via our website. Simply visit inghamcatholic.com/donations and you will be able to make a secure electronic contribution. Emene has now organised his Mass of Thanksgiving for Friday evening the 1st of November at 6.00pm at Holy Spirit Church Cranbrook, followed by festivities in Holy Spirit Hall. This will apparently be a very significant event with lots of singing and dancing and huge quantities of food. We are still negotiating when he will celebrate his first Mass here in Ingham. I was expecting Saturday evening the 9th. Emene might need a little bit of gentle pressure placed on him to make this a reality. This weekend we begin a novena of Sundays of prayer for Emene in anticipation of his ordination. Individual prayer cards are available in each church. I have a busy few days before I begin my annual leave: Mass with Gilroy Santa Maria year 9 and then year 10; GSM finance board meeting; two mornings of meditation with GSM year 12s before their QCS tests; Mass with Our Lady of Lourdes; a faith formation session with Abergowrie staff and one with staff from Lourdes and GSM; my final session with the three wonderful women who are becoming Catholic. There is rarely a dull moment and our schools keep me hopping. During my time away, Bishop Austen will be returning to these green pastures. I hope you will make him warmly welcome again. (R.) God, in your goodness, you have made a home for the poor.

The just shall rejoice at the presence of God, they shall exult and dance for joy. O sing to the Lord, make music to his name; rejoice in the Lord, exult at his presence. (R.)

Father of the orphan, defender of the widow, such is God in his holy place. God gives the lonely a home to live in; he leads the prisoners forth into freedom. (R.)

You poured down, O God, a generous rain: when your people were starved you gave them

new life. It was there that your people found a home, prepared in your goodness, O God, for the

poor. (R.)

What you have come to is nothing known to the senses: not a blazing fire, or a gloom turning to total darkness, or a storm; or trumpeting thunder or the great voice speaking which made everyone that heard it beg that no more should be said to them. But what you have come to is Mount Zion and the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem where the millions of angels have gathered for the festival, with the whole Church in which everyone is a ‘first-born son’ and a citizen of heaven.

He said this, ‘When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take your seat in the place of honour. No; when you have a party, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; that they cannot pay you back means that you are fortunate, because repayment will be made to you when the virtuous rise again.’

'A large group of participants mentioned the need for praying the Rosary, a prayer that many felt had been abandoned over the years. Devotion to Our Lady was also encouraged strongly by this group.' This is just one of the thousands of submissions from the

Understanding the rite of ordination: The Litany of the Saints: Whenever we celebrate the Eucharist, earth and heaven are united in praise and thanksgiving. During the Ordination, while the Elect lies

prostrate humbly before God, we kneel and call on the whole host of heaven to join us in prayer for him. The final invocations of the Litany during Ordination are: Bless this chosen man; Bless and sanctify this chosen man; Bless, sanctify, and consecrate this chosen man; Bring all peoples together in peace and true harmony; Comfort with your mercy the troubled and the afflicted; and Strengthen all of us and keep us in your holy service.

Question:

What is the virtue of humility?

Answer:

In many ways, humility is the foundation of the spiritual life. It's the virtue by which we know ourselves accurately in relation to God and others. Humility reminds us that we are not the centre of the universe. We recognize that we are created beings, totally dependent on God. We are nothing apart from Him. The more we recognize this, the more we're able to open ourselves to God's grace working in our lives. The closer we grow to God, the more we can love others. Humility also recognizes that we're "on par," so to speak, with others. Made in the image and likeness of God, we are all equal in dignity. Growth in humility is not an easy process. It can mean accepting the humiliations and embarrassing mistakes of our life, learning from them graciously, rather than ignoring them or blaming others. It also means responding to those in authority with respect. We can practice humility by not bulldozing ahead or assuming our opinion or way of doing things is always right. Consider asking yourself: "I wonder what so-and-so would think of this?" It's also important to remember that humility isn't only the opposite of pride. It's also the opposite of excessive self-debasement. We've all experienced the negative self-talk that ignores God's gifts in our lives and in our own person. True humility thanks God for His many gifts... and recognizes that He was the One to give them.
