Item #5: Regional/Local Planning Process Kickoff Update

INFORMATION ITEM – NO ACTION REQUIRED

Regional and local plans are required by the state to be developed in each of the 14 planning

units across California. SDWP is part of the Southern Border Region’s (SBR) regional planning

unit. This planning unit is comprised of Imperial and San Diego county workforce development

boards along with a range of partners.

While development of the plan is a required activity, and many of the components in the plan

are state mandated, we see this as an opportunity to showcase our focus on economic mobility

and growth for our community, refresh our priority sectors, highlight our sector strategy and

strengthen our partner relationships. Our sector councils on healthcare and technology are also

directly informing the plan efforts, serving as an important voice of the employer, to guide

regional investments and programming.

Regional and local plans are updated every few years; October 2018 marked the beginning of the

latest update process. The latest version of the plan is required to be submitted to the board for

approval in February and to the state in March 2019. Planning meetings are ongoing now, for

more information please see here.
