It is evident we need to move ahead with a new vision and mission. His presentation outlined the new trends found in post secondary education. The influence of Face-book, Twitter, ipods are creating a new environment for the education and communication. He provided examples of new ways that information is delivered, received and the integration of the wide variety of technology influencing faculty and students even in areas of recruitment and research. The Social Network has created different ex-pectations for education delivery and education must recog-nize what is happening and how this new technology can be utilized. Dr. Calder indicated in his presentation, if Facebook was a country, it would have the fourth largest population in the world. He also indicated today’s experiences in the classroom are different than the days of the blackboard, we must not forget the importance of teacher to student contact in maintaining success in education.

Vision Omicron Field Chapter is an honor society for like minded professionals in areas of design and industrial, and applied technology who work toward :• advancement in technical knowledge, skills and attitudes.• showcasing new technology.• promote research excellence in topics related to technology.• creation of collaboration among technology professionals.

MissionEPT will achieve it’s mission through mutually beneficial activities such as:• professional development events• production of scholarly documents and publications• support of research projects• newsletters• websites and/or blogs• providing members to boards and committees• recognition of members by issuance of awards Steering Committee

What is Next? The steering Committee will meet shortly to look at developing strategic plan that addresses lead-ership structure, sustainability, membership, and other relevant features. The plan at this point isto involve our new initiates, current members and former members in looking at what we can do to move ahead in a planned, step by step manner to increase the profile of the Chapter. This dialogue could be through email, surveys or group seminars. The plan to initiate this ‘next step’, has yet to be developed and your inputwould be appreciated. In the development of this strategic plan, we may hold focus groups and/ or a survey. Whatever your involvement, it will certainly be appreciated in moving the Chapter to an active and vibrant environment. As we all know, networking in our Chapter is one of our strengths and we need your professional network to pass on the message that EPT is re-energized and moving ahead. Please discuss the Newletter with your peers and forward the feedback back to us. Ensure you tell us the an-swer to the question:”EPT — What’s In It For Me as a Professional?” so we can build an organiza-tion to meet member needs.Contact Brian Andrus if you have any sugges-tions or comments.

Steering CommitteeThe Steering Committee consists of eight mem-bers representing a variety of sectors of the technology education community. This committee has met several times to discuss promoting EPT, creating a new vision to match our NAIT liaison, and organizing the recent Initiation. We have initi-ated 6 key members from: NAIT, the University of Alberta and Edmonton Public Schools. One of our next goals is to continue membership growth in industrial and professional associations.

“One of our next goals is to continue membership growthin industrial and professional associations.”

This could also mean re-visiting the organization-al structure of our leadership structure. We also want membership input into our future activities to become more visible and active in Technology Education over the long term. This can also mean involvement by our members to develop work-shops or seminars. This is a wonderful time to give your input to guide EPT into a bright future.
