Robert William Uerling, age 86, of Indianola, NE passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at Community Hospital in McCook, NE.

Robert was born January 4, 1930 at the family home in Red Willow County to parents Paul Mathias and Josephine Marie (Goodenkauf) Uerling. Growing up, Robert attended school at Red Willow, graduating with the class of 1947. Following high school, Robert started farming.

On June 10, 1952 Robert married Claire Elizabeth Anderjaska at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hayes Center, NE. Over the years, the couple made their home in both rural McCook and rural Indianola. Robert and his family built their home outside of Indianola where they continued to farm and feed cattle. Robert and Claire were blessed with seven children.

Robert was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was a 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council 1126 and also served on the H & RW Irrigation District Board for eight years.

Robert enjoyed spending summer days at the lake boating and skiing with his children and their friends. It was the family’s tradition to end those days with a trip to Peter’s Drive Inn for root beer floats.

Robert and Claire also enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, and see the world. Among their favorite locations were Alaska and Europe.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dave Uerling; three sisters, Florence and husband, James Rieck; Lora and husband, Mel Noe; Mary Uerling.

He is survived by his wife, Claire Uerling of the home; twin daughters, Rosann (Tom) Wattonville of Bakersfield, CA and Susanne (Mike) Osberg of Grand Island, NE; daughter, Carol (Mark) Akers of
