Golden A 50th anniversary is a milestone celebration in any relationship. That is why the 50th anniversary is known as the GOLDEN anniversary. It takes perseverance, patience, dedication, and passion to reach this accomplishment. The 2016-17 school year marks the Crusader’s 50th volume which celebrates 50 years worth of priceless memories.
Perseverance The early years of the school’s existence was an era of gold with several championships in football, swimming and gymnastics. While that hasn’t been the case in recent history, and some of those sports aren’t sanctioned anymore, the Bears have never gone into hibernation. Student athletes have continued working hard and fighting to get to that level again. From practicing for hours on end each week, learning new plays and drills to looking their opponents square in the eyes on game days, Bears persevered. It is because of that determination that nearly every sport showed improvement in their stats this year.Patience In relationships, time plays a key part. People don’t always get what they want right away, but with time, things tend to work themselves out. The same is true for the school. This fall the girls’ softball team was ecstatic to finally dig their cleats in the red dirt of their new field after four years of being told that it was “in the works.” The girls went through many ups and downs while waiting for the field to be completed. From delays in construction, to the concession stand not quite being ready for the season opener, the girls patiently waited for the project to be complete and in the end, all the waiting paid off. “It was the best feeling in the world to actually have a functioning field,” senior Madeline Nekola said.Dedication Students are what have made the school GOLDEN throughout the years. Not only have students been dedicated to their academics, but they have put in countless hours at practices for sports or for theater productions; working events like craft fair and Boo Bash; volunteering for numerous community service activities like Project Linus; and fund-raising for many other activities. Passion Students have shown pride in the school since opening the doors with homecoming parades and spirit weeks. While there are no more parades, many traditions like spirit week have continued throughout the years. This year, students were able to show their love and passion for the school and their peers at multiple pep-rallies, something that hasn’t been done for several years.
These virtues combined are what make Bears GOLDEN.2ANNIVERSARY

Golden RuleSPORTS
The GOLDEN rule; treat others how you want to be treated. By following this rule, coaches and athletes alike were able to build unity and were able to show pride in representing Bear country. Teammates were able to connect with one another by following the GOLDEN rule. Many of them were able to make new friends, or reconnect with old ones simply by being nice to them. Teams were transformed into families, and an unbreakable bond was created. “My volleyball team was like a family because everyone was accepting of one another. Like every family, we had some disagreements, but we always got past them,” junior Paris Austin said. Student athletes were also able to connect through the GOLDEN rule, with their coaches. Some teams welcomed new coaches, while others strengthen the bond with a previ-ous coach. “The way we treated our coach, and the way he treats us back affects our relationship with the team. It all affects how we play, and how we get along on and off the field,” sophomore Kamron Klavins said. “As long as we keep treat-ing each other the same and always staying positive, we build that team relationship.” All in all, treating others how you want to be treated was the key to success during each season. It is because of it that Bear country grew stronger each day, and continued to do so, even after seasons ended.

Over the past 50 years the Crusader yearbook staffs have worked diligently to freeze time and preserve the memories of thousands. Inevitably, those faces changed, they moved on and they each made a life for themselves. In honor of the GOLDEN anniversary of this publica-tion, the yearbook staff of 2016-17 would like to cele-brate not only current Bears, but also commemorate those who came before us and helped turn Omaha Bryan High School into what it is today. As Bob Marley once said, “in this great future, you can’t forget your past.” Through-out the index are snapshots of how Bears from each decade have changed throughout the years. A special thank you goes out to the alumni who volunteered to be featured. Photos from graduating years were obtained through previous volumes of the Crusader Yearbook and current photos were taken by Gabrielle Becton and Zachary Craft, were submitted by alumni themselves or was contributed Omaha World Herald.
