The Olympic Games are the world's outstanding sports competition where more than 200 nations and thousands of athletes participate. Modern Summer and Winter Olympic games take turns every two years.

The ancient Olympic Games were held in Olympia, Greece in the 8th century BC.

The evolution of the Olympic Movement during the 20th and 21st centuries has caused several changes to the Olympic Games. Among these adjustments are creating the Winter Games for ice and winter sports, the Paralympic Games for athletes with a disability, and the Youth Olympic Games for teenage athletes. Athletes compete at the Summer and Winter Olympic Games in 33 different sports

and nearly 400 events. The first, second and third place finishers in each event receive Olympic medals: gold, silver, and bronze.

The 2014 Winter Olympics, officially the XXII Olympic Winter Games are scheduled to take place from 7 to 23 February 2014, in Sochi, Russia, with some events held in the resort town of Krasnaya Polyana.

98 events in 15 winter sport disciplines will be held.

The events of the 2014 Winter Olympics will be held around two clusters of new venues; an Olympic Park was constructed in the on the coast of the Black Sea and snow events will be held at Krasnaya Polyana.

Olympians who gain gold on 15th February will be rewarded gold medals with Chelyabinsk meteor fragments - it will become exactly a year after the pieces of the cosmic body fell into the Chebarkul Lake in the Ural Mountains in central Russia.

In 1908 it was the first time when the Russian team took place in the Olympic Games. It was in London. There were 7 athletes in the team in 3 sports (figure skating, track and field athletics and amateur wrestling). The first Russian Olympic winner was Nikolai Panin. He represented Russia in figure skating. Since then Russian and Soviet Union athletics has won a lot of medals in different sports.

In Sochi Russia's team will consist of 223 athletes competing in all 15 sports. This will be Russia's largest Winter Olympics team ever. I wish good luck and victory to our Olympian.

GOOD LUCK!!!
