OLYMPIA AMATEUR ASIA
HONG KONG, S.A.R.
November 22 – 25, 2015
INSPECTION REPORT
Open for Asia, Middle East and UK
WELCOME TO HONG KONG
IFBB PRESIDENT, DR. RAFAEL SANTONJA, welcomes the bodybuilding and fitness community to the
first Olympia Amateur held in Hong Kong. Olympia Amateur is a prestigious IFBB international event,
an amateur version of the renowned Mr. Olympia Pro competition, started by bodybuilding pioneer and
promoter Joe Weider in 1965.
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is a city of 7 million located on the South China
Sea. Once a quiet fishing village, the city became a British crown colony in 1841 following the first Opium
War, when China went to war with England trying to stop the flow of drugs into the country. A second
annexation took place following the next Opium War in 1860, and in 1898, the New Territories countryside
was leased for 99 years. On July 1, 1997, Hong Kong returned to Chinese rule under the 'One Country, Two
Systems' ideology.
EASY ACCESS:
Hong Kong is a cosmopolitan city with English widely spoken and understood. Transportation links to and
within the city are among the world’s best. With clean, frequent bus, subway (MTR), taxi and mini-bus
connections, you can always get to where you need to be quickly and economically. HK International
Airport has both taxi and train service (Airport Express) to various parts of Hong Kong.
A heart pounding cable car ride to the Giant Buddha at Ngong Ping, as well as a steeply inclined tram ride
up to the Peak for 360 views of Hong Kong are exciting must-sees. When you need to refresh yourself,
all variety of cuisines are readily available, so whatever your culinary preference, you are sure to find it.
Hong Kong is a paradise for both shoppers and
tourists. Hong Kong has all the world’s
leading shopping brands displayed in gleaming
sky scraping shopping malls. For the more
adventurous, or for those looking for souvenirs
or unusual gifts, there are many street markets
that beckon. There are also many tourist
attractions for the more scenically inclined –
including stunning nightly light shows on
Victoria Harbour.
For those who want to stretch their legs between competitions, hiking trails are not hard to find, as Hong
Kong is 75% countryside with urban areas being only 25%.
