As I look back on my words from this time last year, I cant help but smile at how much we have accom- plished. In a little over 18 months, we packed up 54,000 square feet, we unpacked into three different locations, we created new learning environments and routines, we completed a successful school year at three different loca- tions, we packed up again, and unpacked once more and returned home to a beautiful new building. No part of this challenge was easy. But our stu- dents and staff certainly made it look that way. Thats because at Silverdale, we value strength of character and we teach strength of character by focusing on the six pillars of character every day. At Silverdale we teach students about Citi- zenship. We also teach students to be Respect- ful, Responsible, Caring, Trustworthy and Fair. These pillars are universal and our students and staff practiced them daily as we faced many challenges over the past several months. We recognize that you were a HUGE part of our success story and our moving out and moving back challenge. I spoke with many of you and I certain- ly appreciate the fact that you were there stand- ing on the sidelines cheering us on. Our collective teamwork paid off and the wait was worth it - we have a beautiful state of the art new building and a great place for our kids to learn. Since school started, we have been hard at work establishing priorities and routines. All students have been tested in using the DIBELs and STAR test to determine instructional levels and areas of focus in Reading. Our Special Education and Learning Assistance Team have been using the assessments to coordinate our tiered interven- tion groups for English/Language Arts. These groups will be in place in the next couple of weeks and their purpose will be to double and triple dose students in need of academic support. This docu- ment is the one that is included in all back-to- schoolmaterials at the start of the year. The document is a tool that spells out in detail how stu- dents can stay safe at school by making good choices. Many difficult topics are discussed so that students become more aware of the rules and why the rules are in place. The main point I make with the students is that you, as parents, want your children to look exactly the way they did when they left home. This mean no bumps or bruises as a result of someone elses actions. The same thing goes for their hearts. The childrens hearts should feel happy when they are at school and no one has the right to make anyone feel badly. As you can see, our Dolphinshave a lot to learn and accomplish this year. We look forward to being a part of their journey. As always, we love to hear from you. Please keep in touch! Ninette Rivero

Dear Silverdale Families, I hope everyone is doing well and settling into the new school year. As I look back on my words from this time last year, I can’t help but smile at how much we have accom-plished. In a little over 18 months, we packed up 54,000 square feet, we unpacked into three different locations, we created new learning environments and routines, we completed a successful school year at three different loca-tions, we packed up again, and unpacked once more and returned home to a beautiful new building. these groups are designed to help students catch up. Our ELA interventions are a WONDERFUL re-source and students make remarkable progress as a result of our collaborative efforts.

Over the next two weeks, Mrs. Oathout and I will be speaking to the students about the Student Rights and Responsibilities document. This docu-ment is the one that is included in all “back-to-school” materials at the start of the year. The document is a tool that spells out in detail how stu-dents can stay safe at school by making good choices. Many difficult topics are discussed so that students become more aware of the rules and why the rules are in place. The main point I make with the students is that you, as parents, want your children to look exactly the way they did when they left home. This mean no bumps or bruises as a result of someone else’s actions. The same thing goes for their hearts. The children’s hearts should feel happy when they are at school and no one has the right to make anyone feel badly. As you can see, our “Dolphins” have a lot to learn and accomplish this year. We look forward to being a part of their journey. As always, we love to hear from you. Please keep in touch! Ninette Rivero

Do you want to make a difference in the life of a student? Do you have an hour a week? If so, mentoring is for you! No experience is necessary. Many of the students paired with mentors report that they have greater self-confidence, improved relationships with their peers and more positive attitudes toward school. Their parents also say their children have better attitudes toward school and better grades.

For more information, please contact Rachel Oathout, Learning Specialist at [email protected] or 662-9415.

Thank you!!

$$$ Federal Impact Aid is coming soon! $$$

We need your help! Our district must apply annually for Federal Impact Aid. These funds replace the loss of local tax dollars from tax-exempt federal property. Each year, we conduct a survey to count the families in our district who live and/or work on federal property. Forms will be sent home with students on November 1. The infor-mation you provide is not used for any other purposes. All sections on the form must be filled out completely and accurately. One form must be signed and dated for each student. These funds benefit all students, and they make a big difference to our district. Thank you for your support! Beth Wade - Administrative Secretary Central Kitsap School District | Business Department | P O Box 8, Silverdale, Wa., 98383 Phone: (360) 662-1652 | Fax: (360) 662-1651 | Email: [email protected] | http://www.ckschools.org Please note, my email address has changed.

Please call at 360-662-9403 or 360-662-9400 to report an absence, late arrival or early release. Good attendance is very important for your student’s success in school. If your student has to be out of school for reasons other than illness here are the options: Excused -Doctor or dentist appointment, Mom or Dad is sick or out of town, etc. Family Business - Family vacations, family visits, etc. If a student is not in class when the teacher takes attendance, the student is marked Unverified. If we do not hear from a parent by 10:00, that student’s name is then on the list for the automated call to a Parent/Guardian. The student’s status in the computer system, cannot be changed until contact is made by parent/guardian that the student is “Ill”, “Excused” or “Family Business”. Lack of attendance can result in Truancy action where we might get the court system involved in order to make sure a student comes to school on a regular and timely basis.

If you call to report a late arrival, you may want to order lunch for your student so they can get their choice for lunch.

Attendance 101
