Ingo Maurer, Founder and Designer, Ingo Maurer LightingGerman-born Ingo Maurer is one of the most prolific and respected artist/designers working today. Fascinated by what he calls the “magical and mystical” properties of light, Maurer constructs luminous atmospheres that play with traditional concepts of color, brightness, and shadow. Since 1966, Maurer has created more than 150 different lights and lighting systems and designed lighting for diverse international venues, including fashion runways, public buildings and monuments, and private commissions. Maurer uses unexpected materials and found objects to create light, and he is a pioneer in the usage of new lighting technologies.

It gives me great pleasure to invite you to Europe’s very first OLED specific lighting design conference. There have been huge developments over recent years in OLED lighting with all of the biggest lighting manufacturers in the world producing prototype panels. There’s a huge potential for the technology to transform the entire spectrum of lighting design, from architectural lighting to lamps and luminaires, and given the current rate of development, it’s set to happen very soon.

Mike Hack, Vice President, Universal Display CorporationDr. Michael Hack, is Vice President of Universal Display Corporation and their General Manager of OLED Lighting & Custom Displays. He is responsible for developing advanced high efficiency next generation OLED products, with a special focus on flexible display applications and solid-state lighting. Previously, he was also a Principal Scientist with Xerox PARC, engaged in the research of material and device aspects of amorphous- and poly-silicon as related to flat panel displays. Dr. Hack received his Ph. D. degree from Cambridge University, England in 1981 and has over 200 publications and 25 patents in the field of thin film electronics to his credit. In 2007 Dr. Hack was elected a Fellow of the Society for Information Display.

Oscar Peña, Senior Creative Director, Philips DesignOscar Peña is the Global Senior Creative Director for Lighting for Innovation, UI and Product design. Amongst many projects he has been the creative lead for Day Wave, Mondrian, Escher, LEGO lights and ‘Oh…Leds, the beauty of interaction’. Having been with Philips Design since 1987, Oscar has been involved in the Philips Strategic Design programs Vision of the Future, Culinary Art, La Casa Prossima Futura and Next Simplicity 2005 and 2006. Memberships / recognition: Oscar’s work has been published in global design magazines and books denoting design excellence. He has lectured on design at a number of Universities and Conferences across Europe, Americas and Africa and he is currently Head of department Man and Activity at The Design Academy Eindhoven.

Iain Ruxton, Associate, Speirs and Major AssociatesIain studied at the University of Glasgow and, whilst working as a graphic designer, became interested in lighting design for its mix of both creative and technical skills Iain has over 11 years of experience as a lighting designer joining Jonathan Speirs and Associates in 1996. Several of the projects that Iain has worked on have been selected for awards including: IIDA awards in 2000 for the Burj Al Arab and the Lighthouse in Glasgow, an IALD award in 2005 for Pulrose Power Station and an IIDA award in 2007 for HBOS Headquarters in Edinburgh. He has lectured at numerous events speaking on items ranging from LEDs in architectural lighting to Energy Efficiency Issues.

Mr Gerd Guenther, VP Marketing & Sales, NovaledGerd Günther, Vice President of Marketing and Sales, has been responsible for Novaled’s marketing and sales activities since March 2005. Previously, he was director of worldwide marketing for Grundig AG, located in Hong Kong, where he gained broad experience in consumer electronics as product director for the flat Panel Devices group and head of the Portable Audio group. Mr. Günther began his career in the pharmaceutical industry in 1987, and later served several consumer electronics companies in the field of marketing. He graduated from Nuremberg University in economics, specializing in international sales and marketing.

Peter Ngai, Vice President of R&D, Acuity Brands LightingPeter Ngai, PE, FIES is the Vice President of Research and Development, Acuity Brands Lighting. Peter’s contributions to lighting include areas such as Nearfield Photometry, Solar Illumination, Brightness and Glare Research, Lighting Optics, and luminaire design among others. He was inducted into the Architectural Lighting Hall of Fame as a “Living Legend” in 2003. His work in luminaire design has resulted in numerous awards for Acuity Brands Lighting including the Design Excellence Award 2009 at Lightfair International, NY. Currently, Peter’s area of focus is in Solid-State Lighting, particularly OLED Lighting.
