Introduction

We are delighted to have the opportunity to present our company profile to you, which we hope is a useful introduction to the services we offer. In 2010 a well respected Lichfield company called Linford Bridgeman sadly ceased trading after a hundred and thirty years. In response to this loss, local heritage consultants Greenwoods decided to establish Oldminster - a new company within its Group, in order to complete a number of Linford projects and subsequently fill the gap in this specialist market. Oldminster has now successfully established itself as a specialist in restoration, conservation and preservation. We employ many ex-Linford master craftsmen including masons and joiners and have successfully completed a number of complex restoration projects. We are very proud to have retained these traditional craftsmen and their knowledge and experience, working from a Lichfield base as Linford Bridgeman had done for a century before.

We understand the complexities of working on Listed buildings and have experience of Grade 1, Grade 2* and Grade 2 properties as well as Scheduled Ancient Monuments. We have worked closely with key stakeholders and Grant funders in the sector such as English Heritage, Architectural Heritage Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund, Victorian Society, Georgian Society, the Country House Foundation, etc. We understand their objectives and requirements and can help our Clients realise their own plans within what can be a very complex framework of legislation and funding criteria. The vast majority of our work has been within the ‘Third Sector’, working for Building Preservation Trusts, Community Groups, Faith Groups, Charities, etc. Our largest Client remains the Church of England having worked on a large number of Church projects over recent years. However, we are also very adept at working with Commercial Clients or private individuals who find themselves having to deal with a listed building as part of a larger project or as their private residence, and are therefore unaccustomed to the issues this raises. We have successfully completed a number of projects where a combination of contemporary design elements and older restored or preserved elements has been required.

Funding Assistance

Many heritage and restoration projects have very complex funding arrangements. Others have great difficulty in securing sufficient funding to complete the works.

We have worked with all the main grant funders who support these projects and many smaller less well known ones. All have their own criteria, management and procurement requirements and timescales. An understanding of these issues can be fundamental to a project being viable or not.

We are able to support out Clients in establishing potential funding, assist in making applications and manage the process thereafter on their behalf if required. With the mix of skills and experience we have in the group, we are also able to advise on ways to develop the project design to achieve best value and to maximise grant funding eligibility.

In addition we can advise on long term viability for projects, which is a key criteria for most funders. We can assist in putting together business plans, options appraisals, volunteer time management and identifying potential end users and income streams.

Giving Something Back

For many years we have built our reputation on projects which bring benefits to the community. This has been our core business and our client include many charitable organisations, housing associations, and community groups. One of the key aims for many of the projects we are involved with is to ensure social inclusion by offering extended services to the local community. The Group’s long term involvement with major regeneration initiatives such as Bournville Village Trust (South Birmingham) and North Solihull Regeneration (North Birmingham) has helped to shape these inner city communities where the built environment is a key element of social as well as physical improvement. All companies within the Group endeavour to support our own local communities whenever possible. We carry out a degree of pro-bono work for community groups as well as actively fundraising for our company charities on an on-going basis. We have been able to help a number of our charitable clients with ‘Volunteer days’ with teams from Oldminster and Greenwoods helping in any number of ways from garden clearance to decorating. In 2011 we actively supported the following charities and organisations: The Vivat Trust The George Coller Memorial Fund The Birmingham Foundation MacMillan Nurses St Giles Hospice, Whittington St Mary and St Margaret’s Restoration Fund Help For Heroes
