Transcript of Old Singapore (2)
Bird's eye views of Singapore's central area in the sixties…
Clifford Pier…
…just like Fisherman Wharf in San Fran...the old SRC!
The old National Library.. where we used to play at
after school in Coleman street.. and lovers met!
Aquarium...see the 2 crocs laying at the entrance!?
Tiger Balm gardens. Sitting under the tree to admire
the nice/scary statues and to hang out with family
The demolished National Theatre where LKY
lectured Singaporeans, in true paternal style!
Chinatown.. and the site of the present People's Park
SAF Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO)
club...classic.. & it will disappear soon, too!
This is so nice and peaceful. Beach Road area
(Raffles Hotel & NCO club) before reclamation of sea!
Site of the present Funan Centre. See the fire station
and Fort Canning slopes at the end of street.
The Capitol building and its Magnolia ice cream
parlour
The esplanade then. Known more as Elizabeth Walk before reclamation and the Durians (Theatres on the
Bay) came up!
John Little, flower the old band stand/clock.. bring
back memories.. in the botanic gardens.
Change Alley and the old Green Bus .. plus the
bridge for cheap stuff.
Fullerton Road and the Old GPO (further down)
before it became the Fullerton Hotel!
The old CK Tang.. good for souvenirs.. where the
new store and hotel now stand.
Collyer Quay above.. before the present Ocean Building came up (and now being demolished again!).
Outram Park (below) before the ugly complex of
buildings came up!
The Singapore River
North Bridge Road
This is Fitzpatrick's!!!
well…well the old Cold Storage which is now Centrepoint!
In the old days, aunties used to go shopping too....
This was Raffles Place. What happened to the water
fountains? Now we have a Bloomberg screen!
Remember the Jurong Drive-in Cinema?
The 47ft by 110ft screen at the Jurong Drive-In hangs elevated 25 feet above ground, tilted at an angle of six-and-half degrees.
Queen Elizabeth Walk (showing the present Fullerton Hotel)
Bugis Street. Where the transvestites had a great
time with sailors and some others…
