Speck fishermen are finding good catches of un-dersized specks during the nighttime hours. Anglers are targeting the mouth of the river as well as the artea a 1/2 mile outside the mouth of the river. Some anglers are finding better success by traveling well up the river where the water is moving. Anglers using small jigs in the heavy scattered grass lines are scor-ing better size speck, but not nearly the numbers.

Bass fishing is productive with artificial baits, top water, spinner bait, senko, jigs and other flipping or pitching style baits are all drawing strikes. Grassy Island as well as the East side of the lake is yielding a lot of small bass with better size fish mixed in. Har-ney Pond is holding fish in the heavy hydrilla area where the ell grass is mixed in with it. Shiner fishing has been steady with good numbers of bass being caught daily, big trophy size bass are being taken on wild shiners by anglers using large shiners to target the larger fish. Areas of mixed cover with eel grass, pepper grass and hydrilla mixed in together are pro-ductive areas for both numbers of bass and big bass.

Over 50 profes-sional teams are expected to compete for over $10,000 in cash prizes, one of a kind trophies and bragging rights over the 2013 Grand Champion, Forrest’s Fine Foods! During the BBQ Contest, an estimated 8,000 spectators can feast on BBQ Masterpieces from Vendors while listening to live music performed by an array of artists. All this followed by Thrills & Spills as some of the biggest names in bull riding compete for the ultimate prize: The Gold Buckle as the PBR Touring Pro division takes the arena with some of the best bulls and top bull riders in the country. Tobacco Free Partnership of Okeechobee is partnering once again with WSTU-AM/WPSL-AM radio on our fifth annual Anti-Tobacco PSA Contests. There will be both a radio and a video category. This year, the contest is again being judged by members of the Orlando Magic Broadcast team. The entry deadline is February 14, 2014. Winners will be announced live on the air during the Coaches Corner show on March 18, 2014. The radio winners will air for an entire year on WSTU and WPSL. The video winners will run on local media and (keep your fingers crossed) may be screened on the scoreboard at an Orlando Magic game. I am attaching the flyers for both categories, and an entry form. Please share this with as many middle and high school students as possible! The contest is open to all students, not just SWAT students. No through traffic will be allowed in the line up area. At the end of the parade no drop offs will be allowed by Country Cooler, Morgan’s , etc. All parade participants must be taken back to a staging area des-ignated by the entry coordinator for drop off.
