1

Welcome to the deflationary world of digital services

The next 30 minutes

What we’re hearing from the board room and beyond

How we apply our technology to reduce cost

The options we have

3

The board have concerns and down the list is IT

4

Security, ease of consumption, cost savings and

collaboration are on our minds for today as

budget cuts are the reality

5

Positive spiral through technology

6

Opening doors through deflationary IT

7

Where Everyone is embracing the cloud

8

Change means effort?

9

How does internal IT feel?

10

How much could we actually save?

11

£350K a year -the best we’ve achieved

to date

Aberdeen City Council

Migrated entire

infrastructure in under 6

weeks

No disruption to

service

Significant monthly savings

13

“Aberdeen City Council has been impressed with the quality,

flexibility and personalisation of service during transition

to the new arrangements in extremely tight timescales, with

minimum interruption to normal service. In brightsolid, we

have found a partner with whom we can innovatively work

as we digitally transform our council services while also

reducing our operational costs.” Aberdeen City Council Finance

Move to Digital

services

So we can, but why move to cloud?

Decision made by CIOs to adopt hybrid, but often no strategy to achieve it.

of enterprises have decided to implement Hybrid Cloud, but have not yet selected strategies and/or partners

Two Core Cloud Capabilities two choices within eachDedicated Cloud and Multi-tenanted Cloud

Dedicated Cloud:

Infrastructure dedicated to a specific Customer

Customer may have security specific concerns

Multi-tenanted Cloud:

Customer resides on brightsolid multi-tenanted cloud

Shared infrastructure

Software enables virtual tenant boundaries

27Technical Innovation with Personal Service

Information Classification: Restricted

Dedicated Cloud

Historically:

Very large customer –economies of scale

Specific hardware requirements

Stringent security requirements

Benefits:

Dedicated architecture ensures security isolation

Zero chance of ‘noisy neighbour’ syndrome

Can be certified to specific security accreditations

Caveats/Limitations:

Dedicated cloud typically doesn’t take advantage of economies of scale

Limits scope for resiliency/can make architecting for resiliency more expensive

Performance benefits that can be delivered by broader design of a multi-tenanted platform aren’t present

28Technical Innovation with Personal Service

Information Classification: Restricted

Multi-tenanted Cloud

Ideal cloud candidate:

Customers looking to start their journey to the cloud

Customers with a requirement for a strong IaaS Platform

Benefits:

Broad design strategies = economies of scale

Resiliency and performance benefits at economic price point not achievable by dedicated

Future proofed infrastructure –take advantage of future capabilities sooner

Caveats/Limitations:

Standardised hardware reduces scope to customise to customer specific requirements

Cannot be used for VDI scenarios due to licensing issues

Welcome……to hybrid cloud

32

Scale infrastructures and apps safely, on demand

33

Deliver new apps whilst conforming to strict compliance

34

Save money on existing applications with a cloud consistent model

35

Be confident and expert in security

36

Backup may be boring, but essential…….and are included in our price

38

So is support………….

39

And DDoS scrubbing…..
