Prayer of Invocation

The Lord GOD helps me;therefore I have not been disgraced;

therefore I have set my facelike a flint,and I know

that I shall not be put to shame.

Isaiah 50:7-9a

Call to Confession of Sin

He who vindicates me is near.Who will contend with me?Let us stand up together.

Who is my adversary?Let him come near to me.

Behold, the Lord GOD helps me;who will declare me guilty?

Lord Jesus, I have sinned times without number, and been guilty of pride and unbelief, and of neglect to seek you in my daily life. My sins and shortcomings present me with a list of accusations, but I thank you that they will not stand against me, for all have been laid on you.

Confession of Sin

Deliver me from every evil habit, every interest of former sins, everything that dims the brightness of your grace in me, everything that prevents me taking delight in you. Amen.

(Silent confession)

If God is for us, who can be against us? … Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.

Romans 8:31, 33-34

Assurance of Forgiveness

Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.

May the peace of Christ be with you.And also with you.

He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.

2 Corinthians 9:10-11

Offering

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;Praise him, all creatures here below;Praise him above, ye heav’nly host;Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Amen.

The Word of the Lord.Thanks be to God!

1 Samuel 21:1-6

Old Testament Reading

The Lord be with you.And also with you.

Let us pray…

Prayers of the People

Most gracious God, who has promised to reveal His glory among all nations,

Hear us as we pray for Your church. Bless all the ministers of Your word and sacraments and unite all Christians in the bonds of holy faith, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Lord God of our fathers, who has promised to take care of our every need,

Give us peaceful times and fruitful seasons. Grant all in authority over us wisdom and strength to do Your will through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Most merciful Father, comfort all who believe the good news of Your grace.

We pray for all who are distressed: the poor, the homeless, the sick, the bereaved, and those afflicted in body and mind. Comfort and relieve them according to Your will, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

And now, as our Savior taught us, let us humbly pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven,hallowed be Thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be doneon earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,And forgive us our debts

as we forgive our debtors.And lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.For Thine is the kingdom and the power

and the glory forever. Amen.

There is a Redeemer,Jesus, God’s own Son,

precious Lamb of God, Messiah,Holy One.

There Is A Redeemer

Jesus my Redeemer,name above all names,

precious Lamb of God, Messiah,O, for sinners slain.

Thank you, O my Father,for giving us your Son,and leaving your Spirit

’til the work on earth is done.

When I stand in glory,I will see his face,

and there I’ll serve my king foreverin that holy place.

Thank you, O my Father,for giving us your Son,and leaving your Spirit

’til the work on earth is done.

There is a Redeemer,Jesus, God’s own Son,

precious Lamb of God, Messiah,Holy One.

Thank you, O my Father,for giving us your Son,and leaving your Spirit

’til the work on earth is done.

The Children’s Song

Open your heart,open your mind,

open up your soul.Jesus come in,

and make a broken man whole.

You carry the cross,carry the pain,carry the love.

We don’t belong here,but to the Father above.

Jesus in heavenand Jesus in hell below,

paid for our sins,broken body

with the red blood flows.

Rise up in glory,raise your handsto the risen King.

He’s God Almighty,listen to his children:

Alleluia to our King!Alleluia, Ruler over everything!

In this world you will have trouble.But Jesus overcame the world.

Our body is his temple,and we worship forevermore.

Alleluia to our King!Alleluia, Ruler over everything!

The Gospel of Jesus Christ.Praise be to you, O Christ!

Luke 6:1-5

Gospel Reading

How are you right with God?

Only by true faith in Jesus Christ. Even though my conscience accuses me of having grievously sinned against all God’s commandments and of never having kept any of them…

The Heidelberg Catechism, Question 60

Confession of Faith

and even though I am still inclined toward all evil, nevertheless, without my deserving it at all, out of sheer grace, God grants and credits to me the perfect satisfaction, righteousness, and holiness of Christ,

as if I had never sinned or been a sinner, as if I had been as perfectly obedient as Christ was obedient for me. All I need to do is to accept this gift with a believing heart. Amen.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts,to which indeed you were called in one body.

And be thankful.

(Greet one another with the words,“The peace of Christ be with you.”)

Colossians 3:15

Passing of the Peace

Institution of the Lord’s Table

Mysterium Fidei

Come, ye sinners, poor and needy,Weak and wounded, sick and sore;

Jesus ready stands to save you,Full of pity, love, and pow’r.

Text: Joseph Hart (1759) • Music: Dana Dirksen

Come, Ye Sinners, Poor And Needy

Let not conscience make you linger,Nor of fitness fondly dream;

All that he requires as fitnessIs to know your need of Him.

Come, ye weary, heavy laden,Lost and ruined by the fall;If you tarry till you’re better,You will never come at all.

Come, arise, and go to Jesus,He will take you in His arms;

In the Love of your dear SaviorYou are safe from all alarms.

I hunger and I thirst;Jesus, my manna be;ye living waters burstout of the rock for me.

Text: John S. B. Monsell, Matthew H. Curl

Music: Matthew H. Curl

I Hunger And I Thirst

I hunger and I thirst;Jesus, my manna be.

Jesus Christ, the Bread of life,I hunger for you, Lord!

Thou bruised and broken Bread,my lifelong needs supply;

as living souls are fed,O feed me or I die.

I hunger and I thirst;Jesus, my manna be.

Jesus Christ, the Bread of life,I hunger for you, Lord!

Thou true life-giving Vine,let me thy sweetness prove;

renew my life with thine,refresh my soul with love.

I hunger and I thirst;Jesus, my manna be.

Jesus Christ, the Bread of life,I hunger for you, Lord!

Rough paths my feet have trodsince first their course began;feed me, thou Bread of God,help me, thou Son of Man.

I hunger and I thirst;Jesus, my manna be.

Jesus Christ, the Bread of life,I hunger for you, Lord!

For still the desert liesmy thirsting soul before;

O living waters risewithin me evermore.

I hunger and I thirst;Jesus, my manna be.

Jesus Christ, the Bread of life,I hunger for you, Lord!
