Analyse critically Disney Studios Tangled in terms of the relationship between story and structure,

considering camera movement, editing, and order of scenes.

Disneys animated features tend to follow a set story structure, particularly the stories of the Disney

princesses. This essay aims to establish this structure and investigate the creators use of camera

technique and editing within the newest Disney Princess film Tangled (2011). The key points to be

explored will be how the musical numbers and the action and romance sequences are structured as

well as how the heroes and villains are established using cameras and editing and how this all ties

together to tell the story. The following published sources will help examine and assess these

    issues:-

The Art of Tangled Jeff Kurtti

Shot by Shot Steven D. Katz

The Fundamentals of Animation Paul Wells

CGI: The Art of the 3D Computer-Generated Image Peter WeisharSetting up your Shots Jeremy Vineyard

Additional: I chose a CG Animated film because of the level of freedom and control they have over

the cameras and editing but also because its looking almost like looking at all animated Disney

films. They have a structure that seems to work and Id like to explore it more deeply.
