HOW DOES THE iIAP SENSORWORK?

The Manifold Absolute Preosure (MAP) sensor dgnal is electrically used in a similar way to the use ofylf! AiLqlggIMAF) sensor.sklnal (attnugh intemaily it is built differently). lt takes a s-vott signat ftrom rheECM or ECU (Environmental Control Unit or Module) computer, and returiis a lower direct o.rrLnt signat inaccordance with tte vacuum in the engine. A higher ouhut voltage means louer engine rrao;um, wiicfr isthen calculated a$'more fuel is needed'. Lo\ryer outprrt signal indicates higher englne vacuum, which@uires bss fuel.

|fg nd ju8t fuel control. The [fAP sensor signal gi\res lhe computer a dynamic indicatiofl of engine load. The computer then uses this data to control not only fuel injection, but aiso gear snin anA cyfinjer bniUonliming.

THE ENHANGER

The invention we rc talking about hete is a simple play with resistors. A r€istor is a little piece of carbontha! Ieduq? gune$. Higher value means it esists more. The potentiorneter ('pof for sh-ort) is a variableresbtor' wttich varies its value byfuming the knob. There is another rcsistor, l-fixed valrre re'sistor, insedes to the pot to increase the dial range.

The MAP or Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor is a litUe though expensive device inetall6d in your intakemanifold, or installed on lhe fireurall and connecied io the manibtd ri,ittr a thin ho6c. lt ha3 5 V6fts or .12Volts coming in, and it simply senses the vacuum in the manifold and etenuates (reduces, weakens) thisincoming voltage_by a oertein fador. In olher wods it reduces the supply vottage io a oire&.cunent ,ioftegein the rangq of 15olo to 60% gf.re supely.rcltaSe (depending on the iir's deaifn these numbas wil varyiand this varying (but non-pulsir€) signal is then sent back to thecomputer.

!The anangement of resietors simply taftee this aheady attenuat€d (reduced, weakened) eignal - andattenuatee lt further. Too much altenuation kilts the engine; it will simply strut om. Vei if iou contot itconEc'tfy, you can lean down the-mixturs ftom the balance oJ ingredients i/rrhich is hc{ory set at 14.7:1 (14.7partB of air to 1 part gasolirc) - down to 20: 1 , maybe erren S0; 1 .

This graph demonstrates the linear properties of theHHO Development MAP / MAF $ensor Enhancer. Bytuming the Enhancer dials, you can reduce or attenuatethe signal vottage to the ECM. Please note thal thehigher the dial setting the greater the increase in the airto fuel ratio.

,l! \r1/ithout attenuation, that is when the dial is set to 0 orthe lower switch is set to "Fac'tory", the air to fuel ratiowifl be maintaind at 14.7 parts air to 1 pad fuel. l/Vhenyou begin to turn the dial, this ratio increases accordingto this graph. lf you turn the dial too far, the engine willshut down due to lad< of fuel.

INSTALLING & TUNING

ATTENTION: The tuning procedure calls for dochrvise and counter-doclffvise rotation of the knob. Theidea ie that turning knob will 'enhance" or "reduc€'the voltage.

The Enhancer can be inetalled on the dashboard or sit on the console. To eliminate the work and po$sibledamage to the dashboard, and to enable better contol, place the box beside the drivefs seat This makestuning quite effofiless.

LoAte the 3 wire6 connec{ed to the MAP sensor. There will be one for the positive supply voltage, usually 5 or 12 volts. The signal will be the wire withthe WEAKER voftage and will change $/ith RPMwhen the engine is started. There will also be aground wire. You can solder or crimp these wilhelecldcal wire connectors.

lf you cannot locate the sensor or the wires, or you're not sure, you'd better get the car's manual. DO NOTIMPROVISE OR GUESS - you may damage your computer. Go to AutoZone and purcftase themaintenance manual (Haynes) gpecific to the fuel injec{ion system of your car.

To find the MAP $ensor Signal Wire, use a Circuit Tester like the one above to find the conect wire. Youcan hook this tester in sen'es with your multi+neter to find the ac'tual voltage of ihe wiree coming out of theMAP Sensor. The coned wire is the one with the lourest \roltage or the one with a voltage that varies whenthe engine RPM is increased. Note: This procedure may damage the MAP Sensor so use the Tesler tolocate the ground with 0 volts and ttle supply voltage of 5 volts. Tfie remaining wire is the MAP S(pal wire.

ACTUAL TUI.IITTIG ON THE ROAD

Tum lhe knob all the way to 'ri"h;6Ih" Dial should point to'0'). Make sure your HHO Generator isoperational. Wam up the engine and drive a while before experimenting with the knob. For sp€eds aborre40 mph, adjust the "Highryaf dial.

t. DO THE NEXT $TEP WITH CARE - OI{ A SIDE ROAD. JUST IN CASE YOUR ENGINE STOPSUNEXPECTEDLY.

2. Now, start turning the knob clockwise; the mixture will turn leaner and leaner until the car stalls orbucks as you drive. Back the knob off slightly after the bucking and chugging.

3. Keep the danger of overheating in mind. lf your HHO device is non-operational, temporarity set theenhancer at or near original factory setting (rich).

4. Set points can change from one gas station fuel to another, weather conditions, cold engine, etc.The differences are not large, but if you're on the edge, then the car will buck or vibrate, and you'llneed to change the set point a bit. Remember lhat this is a simple device'

5. NOTE: When this device turns on, the "check engine light", and it WILL do that, you can turn off thelight using a ScanGauge-ll or an OBD-2 Connector (1996 cars or newer).

MAXIMIZE BENEFITS

C,-'e ,eceiri set of road tests averaged 52.4% better mileage. But, tests from a week earlier on the samecar averaged oniy 24.5o/o. Actually, 22o/oit you discount idling. WHY such great diffeence?

The secret of the BIG DIFFERENCE between the two test groups: The later and more successful one gotMORE THAN DOUBLE the average gain because the MPG was not dialed to near choke point. lt wasabout 1,. turn closer to factory setting! Don't overwork the engine by leaning it too much - play around untilyou find the PERFECT BALANCE Point.

OTHER FEATURESThis Enhancer is built for functionality and is a must have for anyone installing a HydrcgenFucl Cell in vehicles 1996 and new€r.

Sensor to Enhancer Installation

When adjusting the 02 sensors, you only need modiff the signal to the sensorc before the catalyticconverter. Many newer cars have 02 sensors on the manifold and 02 sensors after the catalylicconverter. lf you have an older car with only one 02 sensor then obviously that is the one that ure adjust.

Frequently Asked Questions

l.llUhen should I use the "High$a!,f'and "Enhaneed" setting?Answer: This unit can be switched to the odginal factory settings by putting the switcfr in the Originalposition and is used in this position for cold starts and where conditions such as passing, steep grades orany situation that requiree performance is needed. The Enhanced Switch position is used in coniunc'tionwith ihe Highway - City Switch, and the Highway - City Potentiometers which are leaned in to achieve thebest mileage in respect to city or highway speeds. Use the'Highwa/ setting for speeds above zl() mph.

2. Do the Oxygen Sensop need to be dlsabled if I uee an Enhancer?Answer: I recommend using 02 extenders shown above.

3. Wll the Enhancer worlr on any make and model vehlcle wlth a MAP Sensor?Answer: lt willworft on MAP Sensorc that operate by varying a voltage to the ECU. lt will not work if theMAP Sensor is frequency varied only. i

4. Will the Enhancer work with a MAF - Masr Alr Flow Seasor?Answer: If the sensor operates by varying a voltage to the ECM, it should work gglgg the IVIAF Sensor is f!€quencyvaried only. See Next Page...

Mase Air Flow Sensor DetailThe Air Floru Sensor or Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF) is one of the components of an elec'tronic fuel injectionsystem and is fodnd in many of modern vehicles. The Mass Air Flory sensor is usually installed inside theintake air duct between the air filter and the engine. The Mass Air Flow sensor is used to measure theamount of air entering the engine. This meaeurement is used by the engine computer or ECM to calculateproper amount of fuel injecled into the cylinders in order to provide optimum combustion and lfl| emissions.lf your MAF Sensor is voltage varied, incorporate the MAF Enhancer to rcduce voltage to the ECM.
