Per januari is de vestiging van Hatenboer-Water in Singapore actief. Inmiddels hebben bestaande en nieuwe relaties het kantoor gevonden en zijn de eerste orders geboekt. Afgelopen week kwam een eerste aanzienlijke projectorder voor de levering van een Demitec® watermaker binnen van een bekende drilling ship owner. Per maart is de vestiging ook voorraadhouder van verbruiksdelen en reserveonderdelen.

VoorraadhoudendDe focus van de vestiging ligt op het bedienen van relaties in de maritieme en offshore sector. Het assortiment verbruiksdelen en reserveonderdelen is daarop dan ook afgestemd. Guy Heijnen, Managing Director van Hatenboer-Water Asia Pte Ltd, licht toe: “Bij Hatenboer-Water heeft ook de ‘aftercare’ van onze waterbehandelingssystemen alle aandacht. Goed water aan boord start uiteraard bij het plaatsen van goede, op de maritieme omgeving afgestemde installaties. Gezien het grote belang van veilig drinkwater aan boord, willen we niet alleen tijdens de bouw van schepen en platforms, maar ook daarna een hechte samenwerking met onze

relaties onderhouden. Hierbij is de - tijdige - levering van spares en consumables een essentieel onderdeel. Beperken downtimeVerder is het kantoor verheugd dat ook het bekende drinkwaterdesinfectiemiddel Hadex®op korte termijn kan worden geleverd. “Meer en meer operators en eigenaren ontdekken de voordelen van het goedgekeurde en food grade Hadex voor de desinfectie van hun water aan boord. Ook voor veilige shockbehandeling van de tanks en het leidingwerk na ernstige verontreinigingen”, aldus Saskia Kaarsgaren, Of� ce & Logistics Manager. “Het is cruciaal dat we snel kunnen uitleveren bij calamiteiten en we zijn dus blij dat we binnenkort ook Hadex op voorraad hebben.” Demitec watermakerNaast het op voorraad houden van verbruiksdelen en reserveonderdelen levert Hatenboer-Water alle benodigde systemen voor waterproductie, -transport en -behandeling zoals watermakers, hydrofoorinstallaties, UV-desinfectieapparatuur en heet water boilers. Een van de vaste relaties van Hatenboer-Water heeft

inmiddels een order geplaatst voor de levering van een Proteus watermaker voor uitbreiding van de waterproductie aan boord van een van hun boorschepen. Dit zorgt voor een vliegende start voor het 107 jaar oude bedrijf in Singapore en schept het vertrouwen dat veel eigenaren en operators in de regio inderdaad wachten op een aanbieder van oplossingen op het gebied van waterbehandeling zoals Hatenboer-Water. Hatenboer-Water kent een lange historie op watergebied. Sinds 1906, en nog altijd, levert zij drinkwater voor schepen en industrie. Ruim honderd jaar later is de organisatie uitgegroeid tot een internationaal opererende full service speler in de markt voor waterbehandeling.

Een vestiging in Azië lag voor de hand gezien de constructielocaties van veel van haar klanten in de offshore en maritieme industrie. In taal ruim 80 vaste medewerkers zijn in staat om voor ‘watervragen’ wereldwijd een oplossing te bieden; naast de offshore en maritieme sector ook voor vragen in de tuinbouw en diverse industrieën als de food & beverage of de chemische industrie.

Mr Ketelaars will have overall responsibility for DNV’s advisory units in London, Manchester and Aberdeen, and will also be responsible for enhanced collaboration with European colleagues based in Paris, Milan, Rotterdam, and Bilthoven. Mr Ketelaars started his professional career in Shell International in 1989. Subsequently he worked for 10 years for Jardine and Associates, specialising in asset performance and availability analysis, covering upstream, midstream and downstream assets. He joined DNV as part of the company’s acquisition of Jardine in 2005, and has worked as head of the DNV advisory unit in London since 2008, responsible for advisory activities covering safety, environmental and asset risk. DNV have a long track record of delivering advisory services to most of the International, National and Independent Oil Companies for over 30 years and have built a strong reputation for their competency and consistency in the market. Mr Ketelaars said: “My role as UK head will, both complement an initiative to have greater impact through tighter networking, and allow for simpler and faster decision making. I am delighted to

be taking on this challenge.”With Mr Ketelaars stepping up to this new role, Carlo Buccisano is being promoted to Head of London Advisory. Richard Whitehead, Head of Manchester Advisory, will be Mr Ketelaar’s deputy and continues to be responsible for DNV’s Gas/LNG growth across Europe.

Robert O’Keeffe will continue in his role as Head of Aberdeen Advisory and Peter Boyle, Advisory Services Business Development Director, will also report to Mr Ketelaars, with speci� c responsibility for business development, sales and customer service management. Hari Vamadevan, DNV’s UK regional manager, said: “The three advisory units have a number of areas that will bene� t from a common approach, in particular resource management and competence development. Whilst having much in common, they also have a number of strong niche positions - Manchester in onshore activities, Aberdeen in offshore activities and London on new build projects with EPC contractors. By working more closely I am sure all three of� ces will be more successful.”

DNV, the multinational provider of risk management and sustainability services, has appointed Frank Ketelaars as its Head of UK Advisory Services to oversee a further growth in the oil and gas sector, drawing on a diverse and experienced pool of consultants.

Churchill’s unique “quick-install” solution is run just below the top drive. Available in all common drill-pipe connections, the Mud-Shear Sub™ enables faster mud viscosity reduction, by shearing the mud as it enters the hole.

Bringing highly viscous milling mud into operating condition can take many hours in conventional string con� gurations. However, the Mud-Shear Sub™ introduces agitation quickly and with minimal set-up time, creating a positive feedback loop, where falling viscosity delivers ever increasing � ow rates and better mixing. Once optimal viscosity is achieved, the Mud-Shear Sub™ can be removed equally rapidly, so that milling can start without delay.

The procedure starts with running the Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA) down through the rotary table, into hole just above the milling position. The Mud-Shear Subs™ are then installed in series below the Top Drive and pumping brings the mud into condition quickly.

The subs are then removed easily, allowing milling to begin just as soon as the BHA is lowered the remaining few feet into position. As well as being quick and simple to install, the Mud-Shear Sub™ has no extra running equipment, power or rig-space requirements and � ts in well with conventional rig operating logistics. Churchill Drilling Tools’ director Mike Churchill said: “The Mud-Shear Sub™ is a simple solution to shearing delays, which in turn provides considerable cost savings to the industry.

“Further ef� ciencies can be gained by varying nozzle apertures and sub quantities to deliver better power to agitation ratios. For example, a series of subs with wider nozzles can use similar power to a single tight nozzle but can provide greater volume of turbulent � ow.”

In a way the inauguration took place in an historic environment: that of Het Scheepvaartmuseum (the National Maritime Museum) at the Amsterdam city centre. Both shipbuilder Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld and customer Acta Marine look back on a festive event of the new Shoalbuster, which was delivered precisely on the contract date.

“That is customary”, remarked Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld MD Jos van Woerkum, who added that the multi-purpose vessel has been custom-built to do the dredging and marine contacting projects on hand. The Costal Voyager is planned to be deployed for offshore wind farm projects in the North Sea.

More vesselsActa Marine MD Govert-Jan van Oord says that it is possible to deploy the Shoalbuster anchor handling tug elsewhere, in case its assistance is needed. “End last year, early this year, we also bought three of these older vessels from the existing Damen Marine Services charter � eet.

The fourth one is newbuild. In fact it is the � fth of the series, as Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld delivered the Shoalbuster Coastal

Vanguard December, 2010.”Van Oord proudly added that – having � ve Shoalbuster vesselsdeployed – Acta Marine can be

considered as being one of the larger players worldwide in the dredging and marine contracting market, in the oil and gas industry and in the market for offshore wind. Its Shoalbusters 2609 are deployed in the Persian Gulf.

The third of the series Shoalbuster 3209 – active in Singapore – and the new vessel are larger: 3,300 horsepower units and a Bollard Pull of 45-50 tonnes. These two vessels are the sister ships of the Coastal Vanguard.

La Muralla IV is a brand new semi-submersible drilling rig for ultra deepwater operations, owned by Mexican Grupo R. The rig is constructed by Deawoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea. La Muralla IV is designed to drill up to depths of 10.000 meters. The rig has a length of 118,6 meters and a width of 96,7 meters.

Fairmount Marine’s Fairmount Glacier hooked-up with the rig at the end of October last year offshore the port of Okpo, South Korea. The convoy sailed via Sunda Strait en Cape of Good

Hope towards the Gulf of Mexico, where it arrived at the end of February after covering a distance of over 16,200 miles with an average speed of 6,6 knots.

During the voyage bunker stops were made in Singapore, Mauritius, Walvis Bay and Curacao. At Mauritius the Fairmount Glacier performed several runs between the port and the La Muralla IV to transfer cargo and crew.

COASTAL VOYAGER ON ITS WAY FOR OFFSHORE WIND FARMSDamen delivers Shoalbuster 3209 to Acta MarineLady sponsor Annemie van der Ven- Scheeren, who named the ‘Coastal Voyager’ of Acta Marine in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) on 28th February, has not taken her task lightly. The spouse of the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Acta Marine not only wished vessel and crew well, but also held a marvellous speech on the history of inauguration customs. Beforehand, she took the opportunity to go on board to witness the trial of the Damen Shoalbuster 3209 Coastal Voyager.

The UK Secretary of State for energy and climate change has hailed subsea services company ROVOP as ‘a leading specialist in its � eld’ and one which is ensuring that the country remains at the global vanguard of the energy industry. The Rt Hon Ed Davey was speaking as ROVOP announced that it had further bolstered its � eet of cutting-edge ROVs by investing £4million into two new vehicles. Mr Davey, who met senior

management at ROVOP during his visit to Aberdeen to engage with high-pro� le energy business leaders, said: “ROVOP is a visionary company which has fast become a leading specialist in its � eld. “It is an example of how British companies are playing a pivotal role in ensuring that the UK remains at the global vanguard of the energy industry by capitalising on their expertise and reputation for innovation.”

Award-winning subsea specialist ROVOP, which has created more than 40 highly skilled, export-driven jobs in the last 18 months, is set to take delivery of its two new ROV systems within the next two months. The company’s latest additions to its � eet come just weeks after the Aberdeenshire-headquartered company announced that it had signed £3.5million of contracts in January alone, ensuring a strong order book for 2013. ROVOP, which also strengthened its management and onshore support team earlier this year, has invested in a 3,000m rated, 150 horsepower work class Schilling HD ROV which follows an identical system delivered last month (February). The second new addition involves ROVOP investing in an additional SAAB Seaeye Cougar XT ROV system, specially selected by the company for its powerful yet compact features.

Het begeleiden van werkzaamheden in de offshore industrie is een uitdagende job waarbij je moet kunnen improviseren en � exibel moet zijn. Het is een combinatie van complexe logistiek, goede planning, inkoop, � nanciële bewaking en techniek. Je ben verantwoordelijk voor het bewaken van de technische prestaties van alle onderhoudsactiviteiten met in achtneming van de veiligheid, gezondheid- en milieu regels. FunctieomschrijvingAls Senior Technicus E&I ben je verantwoordelijk en geef jeleiding aan de Technicians E&I aan boord van het productieplatform. Je bewaakt de kwaliteit van werkzaamheden, de kosten en de planning. Je signaleert voortijdig problemen en rapporteert dit aan je Teamleider / Supervisor. Daarnaast geef je technische ondersteuning aan de Technicians E&I. Met het team voer je onderhouds\werkzaamheden uit en los je storingen op aan installaties op een productieplatform volgens de vastgestelde procedures. Je werkt onder andere met generatoren, elektrische installaties, meet- en regelsystemen zowel pneumatisch als hydraulisch, detectiesystemen en PLC’s. Offshore Solutions BV (OSBV), the joint venture between AMEC and Cofely Nederland NV, continues to build on recent successes in The Gulf, after being awarded a Variation Order (VO) to its existing contract with Qatar Shell GTL Limited (Shell Qatar) for a second Offshore Access System (OAS), bringing its operational units with oil and gas majors in the region to three.

The latest addition is to support Shell Qatar’s Wells Reservoir Management Campaign and will see an OAS unit deployed on the Halul 50 multi purpose offshore vessel for a period of seven

months with a possible option to extend.

The VO comes on the back of a three-year agreement with Shell Qatar to service Pearl 1 and 2 platforms of the Pearl GTL project, the world’s largest gas-to-liquids plant, which is a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum and Shell. Based on their positive experience to date of using an OAS equipped vessel, Shell Qatar have exercised their 2 x 1 year options, extending the contract duration to the end of 2015.

62,840 safe personnel transfers mounted on board the Bourbon Gulf Star and has been connected for more than 5,000 hours since operations began, with 100 per cent availability for the past 12 months.

OSBV has been operating in Qatar since 2010, and as a result of excellent safety and operational ef� ciency in a challenging environment, the company has seen growing demand for the OAS. In line with increased enquiries, OSBV will have an additional unit available in June 2013. The company also underlined its commitment to the region by

registering a branch of� ce in Qatar.

the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) deployable fuels infrastructure including aircraft and ground vehicle refuelling operations. Vikoma will provide rugged and portable powerpacks for the Joint Operational Fuel System (JOFS) project which covers the Army, Air Force and Navy. The contract also includes the supply of fuel tanker rollover kits. The powerpacks, which are designed, tested and manufactured by Vikoma, deliver the hydraulic drive to operate refuelling pumps which facilitate fuel transfer, storage and issue in both extreme weather conditions and harsh environments. The rollover kits are utilised to capture any fuel spilt in the event of a fuel tanker accident. The systems were specially adapted from Vikoma standard designs and manufactured by Vikoma under an earlier contract with KBR, who supply the MoD with capital equipment and support services.The order for an increased number of units comes after powerpacks supplied under the previous contract were successfully deployed over two years in locations as diverse as Afghanistan and the Falkland Islands.

The Global Oil & Gas Workforce Survey: Expectations for hires and pay rates in the oil and gas industry (H1) 2013 highlights that ensuring the right personnel are on the ground in the right place will present a continuing challenge for the worldwide oil and gas industry. The survey requested information and opinions from more than 170,000 oil and gas professionals worldwide. The seven major oil and gas producing regions are represented in the survey with respondents being drawn from over 50 countries. More than 15,500 were either direct recruiters or senior decision makers.

Employee packages are seeing a general upward trend with speci� c emphasis being seen in areas that are considered to be high risk. Mark Guest, managing director of OilCareers.com, said: “The recent tragic events in Algeria have served to further underline existing safety concerns throughout the oil and gas industry. It has long been the case that positions in certain geographic areas attract a higher level of remuneration to re� ect the safety issues associated with the work location. Companies working in these locations take the security of their personnel very seriously and work to protect them and ensure their working environment is as safe as possible.”Mark continued, “The 2013 H1 survey and predictions for H2

con� rm these safety in� ation pressures are being re� ected throughout the industry. In addition it should be noted that without the right personnel in place to train the next generation the skills shortage is likely to continue and to become a bigger problem.”

Ian Langley, group executive chairman of Air Energi, added: “Just over 34% of those responding to the survey perceived economic instability as being the biggest threat to today’s oil and gas industry. The skills shortage was a very close second; 32% view this as being a major challenge to overcome. In particular the shortage of subsea and LNG personnel is being felt throughout the industry and has a knock on effect in terms of project costs and delays.”

AfricaThe challenge of new frontiers being opened up to explore discoveries in countries including Mozambique, Congo and Gabon is, to some extent, being overshadowed by security concerns as highlighted by events in other African nations including Algeria and Nigeria. For the oil and gas industry to continue to expand these concerns will need to be overcome as well as potential civil, regulatory, technical and environmental challenges.Angolan projects are continuing

apace. Angola is now considered to be in direct competition with Brazil and the North Sea for the top expertise necessary to access their natural reserves.

The Nigerian Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) should be passed this year, possibly as early as March 2013. This complex legislation will result in the Nigerian government receiving increased levels of royalties, but those operating the area have warned that the signi� cant uplift may make the area unviable.

AmericasColombia and Argentina are emerging as major energy players within the Americas. Offshore Exploration and Production is reaching high levels in the Gulf of Mexico, so while labour rates and supply are reasonably stable in North America it is not yet clear where the offshore and LNG expertise required in South America will be drawn from.

Asia Paci� cServing as the worldwide hub for shipbuilding and offshore fabrication the major yards in Asia Paci� c have been operating at maximum capacity going into 2013. Project delays are likely to be a certainty this year and companies are beginning to look further a� eld for the required workforce. Increasing demand has been seen in the region for disciplines including naval architects, subsea engineers and project control specialists.

AustralasiaMajor projects in the region are approaching the end of execution so hiring rates and earnings for construction, commissioning, completion and start up personnel are expected to increase in the next two years. Personnel required for the mid stage of projects can expect relatively stable conditions with operators and supply chain � rms continuing to hire at expected rates.

FSU-CaspianTechnological advances already in play elsewhere will be necessary in order to tap the discoveries in this region. Currently project costs to kick-off the development of these discoveries are seen as being commercially unfeasible. As Russia becomes more open to foreign oil and gas partners and offers project partnerships, technical collaboration and federal investments it is expected that the entire region will reap the bene� t of these initial investments.

EuropeEurope continues to be an appealing prospect for both nationals and expats. The high standard of living combined with a broad range of professional opportunities is an attractive proposition. This does not mean that the skills shortage is not being felt; disciplines in short supply include safety, civil/structural and environmental engineers as well as E&P disciplines, geophysicists and geoscientists.

Record investments in Northern European oil and gas as well as in the UK, combined with strong support from the UK government, has resulted in increased investor con� dence in both areas. In Northern Europe the ability to apply new technology to reach previously inaccessible reserves has resulted in the creation of thousands of jobs. New jobs in the UK are being created both to service new projects and also to extend the

lifespan of existing developments. A shortage of disciplines, in particular relating to FPSO design work, has been seen in mainland Europe.

Middle EastQuality of life, competitive rates, tax breaks and long tenured placements are being used to tempt oil and gas expertise to the Middle East. Rates have remained consistent and the anticipated exodus of LNG related personnel to Australia has not been realised. There is signi� cant demand in the region for site construction personnel and senior level engineers.

Mark Guest concluded, “Elements of the oil and gas workforce will continue to be transient in nature and respond to the demand for their skills around the globe, but the industry as a whole needs to concentrate on developing the workforce in order to ensure knowledge is passed on and the required experience is in place to manage the world’s oil and gas reserves.”

“The skills shortage remains an issue for the worldwide oil and gas industries with some regions and disciplines being more affected than others. This continues to be viewed by many as one of the major obstacles for the industry to overcome. Without the right people on the ground we won’t get the reserves out of the ground.”

Warnings that oil industry safety standards are being jeopardised by a shortage of experienced staff are supported by a report published today, Monday 11 March 2013. 32% of respondents to the latest joint report from OilCareers.com, the international jobs board for the oil and gas industry, and partner Air Energi, a global provider of manpower solutions to the energy sector, highlighted the on-going skills shortage as the biggest threat to the sector. The lack of skilled trainers was identifi ed as a major training issue by over 20%. The report confi rms that heightened safety concerns due to economic instability combined with a continuing strong oil price and the on-going skills shortage, particularly in the LNG and subsea sectors, will continue to push oil related salaries upwards.

Commenting on the sale of Divex Ltd to James Fisher and Sons PLC, Ian Knott, an associate director in KPMG’s corporate finance team in Aberdeen, which advised Divex Ltd, said:

TOS is proud to conduct the � rst ship delivery for Østensjø Rederi, a maritime service company based in Norway. “The ASD tug Lomax has been built by Sanmar (Turkey, Tuzla) a yard which we have done business with for many years now. They brought us in touch with Østensjø.” says Ronald van der Kolk, Manager Division Nautical & Technical.

March 7th the Lomax arrived at

the port of Ulsteinvik, Norway to deliver a tow. The vessel Lomax picked up the tow in the Ukraine. The tow is the new build casco X-BOW vessel Blue Guardian from the company Ulstein and was delivered to a ship yard in Ulsteinvik. After this she will continue her voyage to a renewed destination. The Lomax sails under full TOS management and with a TOS crew.

Met dit nieuwe type wordt ingespeeld op de vraag naar krachtigere sleepboten. Niet alleen worden de schepen steeds groter, maar ook is er behoefte aan ruimere accommodatie aan boord.

Damen Shipyards kan met trots aankondigen dat er al een afnemer is voor de nieuwe sleepboot, namelijk het gerenommeerde Duitse sleepvaartbedrijf Petersen & Alpers, een van de oudste maritieme bedrijven in Duitsland.

Frank de Lange, Sales Director North, West & South Europe bij Damen, vertelt waarom Damen heeft besloten om een nieuwe sleepboot in de ASD-serie uit te brengen. "Schepen worden steeds groter, maar de fysieke ruimte van havens is beperkt. Klanten willen graag krachtigere sleepboten, maar deze moeten wel net zo compact blijven, omdat zij in havens met beperkte manoeuvreerruimte moeten opereren."

Meer dan 75 ton paaltrekkrachtDeze nieuwe sleepboot zit precies tussen de Damen ASD Tug 2810 (60 ton paaltrekkracht) en de zeer krachtige offshore terminal ASD Tug 3212, die onlangs op de markt

is gebracht. Het was eigenlijk een logische stap om een nieuw compact type in de Damen-serie met een paaltrekkracht van 75-80 ton te ontwikkelen, zegt hij. "Voor de ASD Tug 2913 hebben we vergelijkbare ontwerpprincipes gehanteerd als bij de nieuwe ASD Tug 3212, en hoewel het schip vooral is bedoeld voor werk in de havens, is het daarnaast volledig zeewaardig."

Met een breedte van 13 m is het een zeer stabiel en voor de bemanning uiterst comfortabel schip. Het nieuwe type kan zowel duwen als slepen. Optioneel kan het schip worden uitgerust met een trommellier op het achterdek. Het is ook de eerste Damen-sleepboot met een dubbele romp. Het schip voldoet daarmee niet alleen aan de laatste veiligheidsvoorschriften maar ook aan de behoefte van de klanten.

Petersen & AlpersPeter Lindenau, Managing Director van Petersen & Alpers, is zeer verheugd dat zijn bedrijf de nieuwe sleepboot als eerste in de vaart kan nemen. Het wordt de tweede Damen-sleepboot in de vloot van het bedrijf. De eerste was een

ASD Tug 2411, die nu al vier jaar in Hamburg opereert. Ook heeft Petersen & Alpers ervaring met de Damen ASD Tug 2810, maar dan bij een eerdere joint-venture via de aan haar gelieerde onderneming TOWMAR BALTIC in Klaipeda met Smit.

“Wij hebben goede ervaringen met de Damen-sleepboten en zien dat de concurrentie deze ook gebruikt", zegt Peter Lindenau. "De bemanning is zeer tevreden over onze eerste Damen en dat is iets wat erg belangrijk voor ons is. De kwalitatief hoogwaardige constructie en het vermogen van de 2411 waren precies waar we naar op zoek waren. Dit schip kan ook over de kop slepen ('bow-to-bow'), iets wat voor veel ASD-sleepboten best een probleem is om goed te doen."

De ASD Tug 2411 voldoet uitstekend, vooral op het gebied van langszij slepen en het maken van de sleepverbinding. En de voorstuwing laat zich uitstekend regelen dankzij de slipkoppeling, benadrukt hij. "Met de Rolls-Royce-roerpropellers en Caterpillar 3516-motoren heeft het schip een fantastische acceleratie".

"Onze nieuwe Damen is heel geschikt voor de haven van Hamburg, omdat deze haven zeer kleine bekkens heeft", zegt hij. "Zeeschepen worden steeds groter. Daarom was er grote behoefte aan een zeer wendbare en compacte sleepboot met meer vermogen. De ASD Tug 2913 van Damen was

uitermate geschikt voor Hamburg.”

Ideaal voor havensOok onderhoudskosten spelen een rol, aldus Lindenau. Het bedrijf heeft wat dat betreft goede ervaringen met de ASD Tug 2411, die slechts weinig onderhoud vraagt omdat de coating zo goed is. Petersen & Alpers heeft veel vertrouwen in Damen. “We vertrouwen elkaar, dat is het belangrijkste. Het gaat niet alleen om de prijs, maar om het totaalplaatje van kwaliteit, service en onderhoud.”

“Wij hebben geluk om de eerste afnemer te zijn. Dat betekent dat we veel input hebben mogen geven, waarbij Damen echt goed geluisterd heeft naar onze wensen." Zo wilde Petersen &

Alpers graag een oliegestookt verwarmingssysteem. Peter Lindenau zegt: "Misschien kijken we wel een beetje op dezelfde manier naar dingen als Damen omdat we allebei een familiebedrijf zijn: we houden altijd rekening met de volgende generatie. Dat betekent dat we veel waarde hechten aan langdurige relaties die zijn gebaseerd op vertrouwen."

Er is zoveel belangstelling voor de nieuwe standaard dat Damen al is begonnen om op voorraad te bouwen.

Met de komst van de ‘Cuauthemoc’ uit Mexico zal het hart van velen sneller gaan kloppen in Den Helder. Hiermee gaat een veelgehoorde hartewens in vervulling. Dit schip en haar bemanning maakte een onuitwisbare indruk in 2008, toen zij voor de eerste keer de havenstad bezocht. Met haar crew, staande op de ra’s in hun fraaie out� t, bracht de ‘Cuauthemoc’ een exotisch accent naar Den Helder waar nog steeds over gesproken wordt.In totaal bestaat de Sailvloot nu uit 30 schepen in de A- en B-klasse afkomstig uit alle windstreken.

Hieronder vallen ook een aantal prachtige Nederlandse Tall Ships. Daarnaast hebben tientallen

schepen van het Varend Erfgoed zich aangemeld, die op en rond Willemsoord worden afgemeerd.De grootste windjammers zullen een ligplaats vinden op het Marineterrein, de grote replica’s vinden een ligplaats aan de Nieuwe Diepkade. Sail Den Helder 2013 wordt gehouden in samenwerking met de Koninklijke Marine, die tegelijkertijd haar 525 jarig jubileum viert. Ook de Marinedagen 2013 vinden plaats in dezelfde periode. De verbinding van deze drie evenementen is van grote toegevoegde waarde en belooft een onvergetelijke ervaring te worden. Kleurrijke Mexicanen ook naar Den Helder

Met nieuwe bevestigingen van de schepenlijst groeit het aantal deelnemers aan Sail Den Helder 2013 nog steeds. Ook de Braziliaanse ‘Cisne Branco’ heeft haar komst bevestigd. Tijdens de Tall Ships Races in 2008 bezocht zij Den Helder voor de eerste keer. Ook haar zusterschip, de ‘Stad Amsterdam’ zal deelnemen aan Sail Den Helder 2013.Daarmee zullen de zwarte (Stad Amsterdam) en de witte (Witte Zwaan= Cisne Branco) zusters weer dicht bij elkaar komen. De ‘Shabab Oman’ (Oman) en de ‘Sagres’ (Portugal) zijn eveneens aangemeld, waarmee opnieuw bijzondere schepen worden toegevoegd. Nog steeds lopen er een aantal onderhandelingen over schepen die nog verwacht worden.Intussen is een eerste planning

verschenen voor donderdag 20 juni 2013, wanneer de schepen op de Rede van Texel ten anker zullen liggen. Net als in de historische tijden ligt de vloot dan relatief dichter bij Texel dan bij Den Helder, hoewel de grootste windjammers goed zichtbaar zullen zijn vanaf de dijk. In het begin van de middag zullen een aantal schepen ankerop gaan. Dit geldt met name voor de Tall Ships die op Willemsoord zullen worden afgemeerd en een aantal grote schepen, die uiterlijk om 16.00 al op hun ligplaats moeten zijn. Daar tussendoor zullen talloze schepen en kleinere bootjes langs de vloot varen, om dit spektakel van dichtbij te kunnen waarnemen.De unieke ervaring om met eigen ogen de historische vloot ten anker te zien liggen sluit aan bij

de hernieuwde belangstelling voor de Gouden Eeuw. De eenmalige ‘re-live’ van deze tijden maakt Sail Den Helder 2013 uniek en onderscheidt haar van andere Sail evenementen in Nederland.

Brazilianen komen ook naar Sail Den Helder 2013!

Onder de klanken van de Sea Side Jazzband stroomden de gasten binnen in het projectbureau van Sail Den Helder, dat sinds begin januari 2013 gevestigd is op Willemsoord 29. De of� ciële opening werd verricht door burgemeester Koen Schuiling, met de overhandiging van een scheepsmodel dat hij vorig jaar ontving van de Götheborg. Het model is in bruikleen gegeven aan het projectbureau.Willemsoord BV heeft de ruimte in nr. 29 beschikbaar gesteld, waarbij de Sailorganisatie zich maximaal gaat inzetten om Willemsoord nadrukkelijk bij het evenement te betrekken. Dit zal o.a. zichtbaar worden door de aktiviteiten die op Willemsoord geconcentreerd worden, een aantal van de kleinere Tall Ships die hier worden afgemeerd en het grootste reuzenrad van Nederland op dit terrein. Willemsoord 29 is een goed voorbeeld, hoe de

historische gebouwen weer gebruikt kunnen worden.Tijdens de informele bijeenkomst werden de medewerkers van het projectbureau voorgesteld en konden bestuurders, vrijwilligers en andere relaties binnen Sail Den Helder 2013 met elkaar

The 20-year-old from Orkney has recently started training as an air diver at The Underwater Centre in Fort William, where he is one of 42 successful applicants to be offered a place which has been funded in part by the Scottish Government.

Skills Development Scotland awarded The Underwater Centre £360,000 towards the cost of training a new generation of divers; the funding allowed those awarded a place the chance to train for half the normal price, the only criteria being that they must have a Scottish postcode.Klaus was born in Nigeria, where his father was a general surgeon, before moving to Germany for two years.

The family move d to Orkney when Klaus was six, and he went on to attend Kirkwall Grammar School. He left two years ago to travel around Australia for nine months, working as a farm hand and in construction as a labourer before returning home.

“When I got home, I spent the summer and winter labouring with my dad and brothers who were building a two-storey extension on our house. I then heard from a friend in Fort William about The Underwater Centre and the courses it offered, so decided to apply for one of the funded courses,” said Klaus.“I signed up for one of the assessment days and was

fortunate to get a place on the Premium Construction course. I have always liked to be on the water – I have a small speed boat and I enjoy � shing, sailing and wake boarding. I also enjoy working with my hands, so this felt like the perfect career for me.” Despite his love of the sea, however, Klaus had never dived before he started the course – he now has 15 dives under his belt.“It is absolutely fantastic, and I know that I have made the right decision,” he said.

“I like the fact that you are, quite literally, thrown in at the deep end – it’s tough but great experience. When it comes to working in industry, they want to know that you have what it takes to handle it. The course is designed to ensure that you are ready and able to start work.”

After graduation later this year, Klaus, who also plays rugby for Orkney Rugby Club, plans to work as an air diver for a couple of years to gain experience that will allow him to undertake saturation diver training.

“It is a good idea at the start to spend some time working in-shore on � sh farms, harbours, piers and dams to build up your experience and time in the water, and then go offshore,” he said.“My long-term goal is to go into saturation diving – I like the idea of being able to travel and of course the money is also attractive – but what I really enjoy is the experience of working deep under water, as well as being able to use my hands in my work.

The engineering component of the course is really interesting too. “Because most of us are living in at the Centre, we get to know each other pretty well, and I have already made a lot of friends on the course.”

Coming from a family of water-sport enthusiasts, Klaus Dohrn was perhaps always going to pursue a career on or around the sea. However, while his older brothers enjoy scuba diving, Klaus prefers to keep his feet fi rmly on the sea bed.

EXPRO WINS AWARD FOR NO LEAKS SAFETY VIDEO Leading international oilfi eld services company, Expro, has won the ‘Best Audio Visual Employee Communication’ prize at this year’s Scottish Com-munications Awards.

The No Leak is Acceptable video was part of an internal safety campaign focused on teamwork and communication as effective ways of reducing hydrocarbon releases. Improving asset integrity performance by preventing all hydrocarbon releases is a primary goal for all Expro employees.

The No Leak is Acceptable campaign video is based on a football team’s training day in preparation for a big match. It stars Jackie McNamara, Dundee United football club’s manager, who was more than happy to come on board to help highlight the links between the most popular sport on the planet and the offshore industry.

The award jury stated that ‘the Expro video was perfectly pitched for the target audience and

handled the issue of health and safety in a different way’.‘No Leaks’ beat off stiff competition in a very competitive sector from entries by The Royal Bank of Scotland and Heineken among others. The video was nominated in this category by the production company Greenroom Films.

The Awards are run by the Institute of Internal Communication Scotland (IoIC) of which Greenroom Films are a member. The institute exists to deal with common issues and concerns within the industry, to share best practice and to encourage excellence in all aspects

of internal communications. The IoIC is the UK’s leading professional body for all those involved in internal communications.

Keith Palmer, Expro’s Europe CIS region director, said: “Rarely does a health and safety video win a best employee communication award so it’s great to be recognised.

“Safety is of paramount importance to us and this original initiative highlights Expro’s commitment to safety and the prevention of hydrocarbon leaks.”

Following a landmark agreement with the Iraqi Ministry for Oil in 2011, OPITO has now been awarded a contract with Shell to support the development of training for workers on the Majnoon project and to improve vocational training centres in Basra. OPITO’s intervention will ensure that these centres train Iraqis to industry expectations and OPITO standards. In addition, OPITO is working with all the international oil companies in Iraq to design a framework for delivering suitably quali� ed Iraqi oil and gas workers to help the country fully exploit its emerging oil industry and transform the economy of the war torn country. A similar agreement with Petronas in Malaysia will see OPITO standards become part of the national oil company’s mandatory safety training programme. The newly signed memorandum of understanding between the two organisations will result in the transition to BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training) standard as a minimum requirement for all workers offshore Malaysia in the

same way as it is compulsory in the North Sea. Through a framework being developed by OPITO, hundreds of technicians will be trained to recognised industry quali� cations, allowing them to work wherever Petronas operates in the world. This will increase the global mobility of the individuals and give Petronas the con� dence in the competence of their technicians. David Doig, OPITO Group chief executive, said: “These contracts represent a step change for OPITO International and underline the esteem in which we are held globally. The trust placed in us by governments, IOCs and NOCs around the world is truly transforming OPITO International’s business model. We take huge pride in the fact that the safety and competency standards pioneered in the North Sea are now being recognised and desired by oil and gas provinces the world over. “The North Sea industry has to be credited for revolutionising offshore safety following the

Piper Alpha tragedy through its investment in the creation of OPITO and for its on-going commitment to the evolution of the organisation which is now a focal point for skills, training and workforce development in oil and gas.” To deliver the increasing international scope of work, OPITO International has doubled the size of its of� ces in Dubai and increased its international workforce to 22 with a further four positions to be created in the next 12 months. Former director of the Scottish Quali� cations Authority (SQA), John McDonald, has been appointed as director of international workforce development for OPITO. Mr McDonald will lead the work with Shell and Petronas and build future agreements with governments and industry, which are currently in the pipeline, in places as far-ranging as Oman and East Timor. During his time at SQA, Mr McDonald led the development t of new products and services and created new markets in Asia and the Middle-east. He worked at ministerial level in several countries on capacity building projects in education and training. Before joining OPITO, he was a director of ACTVET, the government body charged with creating a vocational education and training system in Abu Dhabi.

The new type answers market demand for more powerful tugs as vessels continue to get larger and for more spacious accommodation.

Damen Shipyards is proud to announce that it already has a launching customer for the new tug, the highly esteemed German towage operator Petersen & Alpers, which is one of the oldest maritime companies in Germany.

Frank de Lange, Damen Sales Director South, North and West Europe, explains why Damen decided to introduce a new tug type in the ASD series. “Vessel sizes are increasingly growing, while ports are still restricted to their physical size. Customers were requesting more powerful tugs, but they still have to be

compact so they can operate in harbours which are lacking space.”

75 tonnes plus bollard pullThis new tug Standard slots in between the Damen ASD Tug 2810 with a 60 tonnes bollard pull and the highly powerful offshore terminal ASD Tug 3212, which was recently introduced. Developing a new compact type with a bollard pull of 75-80 tonness was really a logical step for the Damen series, he adds. “For the ASD Tug 2913 we adopted a similar design philosophy as for the new ASD Tug 3212 and although the vessel is primarily a harbour tug, it also has very good seakeeping capabilities.”

At 13 m wide, the vessel is very

stable and very comfortable for the crew. The new type has push/pull capabilities and can be � tted with an aft winch as an option. The tug is also the � rst Damen tug to have a double hull to comply with the latest safety regulations and to answer customer demand.

Petersen & Alpers launch customerPeter Lindenau, Managing Director of Petersen & Alpers, is very pleased to be the launching customer for the new tug. This will be the second Damen tug in the company’s � eet, following on from an ASD Tug 2411, which has been in operation for the last four years in Hamburg. And indeed, through a previous joint venture via its af� liated company TOWMAR BALTIC in Klaipeda with Smit, Petersen & Alpers also had experience of the Damen ASD Tug 2810.

“We have had a good experience with Damen tugs and have also seen our competitors using them!” says Mr Lindenau. “The crew were very happy with our � rst Damen tug and that is very important to us. The quality of

the build, the 2411’s performance was what we were looking for. It has proven itself in being able to operate bow-to-bow when a lot of ASD tugs have problems doing this properly.”

The ASD Tug 2411 is performing well and is great at going alongside, making fast and the thrust is easily controlled with the slipping clutch, he emphasises. “And with Rolls-Royce thrusters and Caterpillar 3516 engines the acceleration is great.”

“Our new Damen vessel will be particularly suited for the port of Hamburg, which has very small basins”, he stresses. “Seagoing vessels are getting bigger and bigger. A highly maneuverable, compact tug with more power was needed. So the Damen ASD Tug 2913 was the right tool for Hamburg.”

Ideal for portsLow maintenance costs are also important, he says. The company has had a good experience with the ASD Tug 2411, which requires only limited maintenance because the coating is such good quality.

Crucially, Petersen & Alpers has a great deal of con� dence in Damen. “We trust each other, which is the most important. It is not just price but performance, service and maintenance.”

“We are lucky to be the launching customer. We have been able to have a lot of input, with Damen really listening to our requirements.” For instance, Petersen & Alpers requested an oil � red heating system. Mr Lindenau adds: “Perhaps we look at things in a similar way to Damen, both being family owned companies; we are always considering the next generation, so a long-term, trusting relationship is very important.”

“We are always there to support our clients and we hope we can assist Petersen & Alpers in their success,” Mr de Lange says.

There has been such a lot of interest in the new Standard that Damen has already started building for stock.

The � rst vessel starting the cycle, MV SANTA CATHARINA, was expected the 30th of December 2012. However, this vessel was operationally delayed, which reduced the available time with three days. Due to an intense work preparation, with a good and smooth cooperation between the owners and makers, and an ef� cient method of � tting each prefabricated Becker Twisted Fin to its vessel,

DSR managed to re-deliver each vessel just before the next vessel was ready for docking. The last vessel, the MV SANTA ROSA, was re-delivered in the last week of February.

Becker Twisted FinThe Becker Twisted Fin is developed in order to improve the performance of the vessel in combination with the propeller

and the aft body of the vessel. After testing in the Hamburg Ship Model Basin HSVA it showed an improvement of reducing the fuel consumption for this type of vessels up close to 4%. With the Becker Twisted Fins installed, both Hamburg Süd and Damen Shiprepair contribute in a small, but signi� cant way to environmental protection.

Damen Shiprepair & ConversionWith this project DSR also contributed to the accreditation of the ISO 14001-2004. Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam is one of the 12 repair yards of Damen Shiprepair & Conversion in North West Europe, the latest members being ARNO Dunkerque (France), Shipdock Amsterdam and Shipdock Harlingen (NL). Some of the larger

yards are Damen Shiprepair Götaverken (Sweden), Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen (NL) and Damen Shiprepair Brest (France). In Germany Damen Shiprepair & Conversion is represented by Zoepffel & Schneider GmbH.

Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam re-delivers seven vessels to Hamburg SüdContainer vessels outfi tted with Becker Twisted FinsIn October 2012 Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam (DSR) won the contract for installing the fi rst Becker Twisted Fin® on 7 container vessels of the fl eet of Hamburg (Germany) based liner shipping company Hamburg Süd. To com-plete the project in time, the vessels were routed in such a way that they could each be dry-docked for a maximum of 6 days every consecutive week. All ships have now been re-delivered.

Work at height and co-worker rescueDuring work at height activities a lot of employees face the risk of falling. This is why people carry fall arrest harnesses and lanyards. Although these will stop the fall, a new problem has risen. When an employee hangs in his harness, he has to get back on earth. This might seem easy when the work takes place on a scaffolding tower on land and there is a � oor just below the unlucky employee who fell but is still conscious and unharmed. The problem however is more serious, when this employee is unconscious, is hanging 25 meters above sea level and 20 meters sideways out of a platform hanging on a 5 meter diameter crane beam. Bringing this person back on board is a more demanding problem, but still necessary. R3B helps organizations with implementing procedures, organizing training and providing equipment for these situations. Rope accessRope access is a relatively cheap

and easy way to reach places where people normally cannot come. Working while hanging suspended from ropes looks dangerous to the untrained eye, but industry statistics show it is one of the safest ways of doing work in dif� cult places, which cannot be done in another way. Inspections, controlling work, installation, cleaning and maintenance can all be done while working from ropes. R3B has helped a number of customers in varying branches with gaining entry to very speci� c locations to do inspections by means of rope access. Due to the fact that almost all our available technicians are not only trained in rope access but also in rope rescue, the R3B team can guarantee the highest safety grade and has a broad range of rope solutions to reach places, but also getting back out. A lot of times the main reason for this is the unfamiliarity of the practical details that do count in these sorts of circumstances. Former vice-chair Michael Taggart will take the helm as chairman of the organisation, while fellow committee member Kelly Murray has been appointed as the new vice-chairman.

Both appointments were announced at the ICoTA European Chapter’s annual dinner at the Marcliffe Hotel, Aberdeen, attended by more than 300 leading � gures from the region’s intervention and coiled tubing industry.

Mr Taggart has been a member of ICoTA Europe for more than a decade, with over � ve years spent on the committee. A former marine engineer with the Merchant Navy, he has worked in the oil and gas industry for almost 20 years.

An engineering manager withBaker Hughes, Mr Taggart, is responsible for ensuring the safe and ef� cient undertaking of coiled tubing operations for Baker Hughes, also introducing new technologies to the UK.

Kelly Murray becomes the � rst woman to hold either the position of chair or vice chair at the organisation after spending four years as an ICoTA committee member. Mrs Murray played a vital role in organising last year’s Energy Apprentice competition aimed at encouraging school pupils to think about a career in the oil and gas industry.

Currently the Chief Operating Of� cer at Red Spider Halliburton, Mrs Murray is responsible for the leading the company’s product centre and was instrumental in securing private investment for the company when it was restructured in 2009.Mrs, Murray started her career in the industry as a project

coordinator for Baker before her interest in tools instigated a move into the Well Intervention Group.

The chairman and vice-chairman of ICoTA Europe serve for one year, are nominated by members and appointed on an annual basis. Mr Taggart takes over as chairman from Callum Munro.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Taggart said: “I am delighted to take on this new role as chairman. ICoTA is key in providing a global network of professionals, engineers and technical experts across all well intervention disciplines, offering a vital platform through which to exchange practical knowledge and share innovative ideas and products.

“As chairman, I want to build momentum through the organisation ensuring we can attract the new breed of engineers which the industry needs both now and for the future. The adoption of new technologies and more collaborative ways of working will help to secure the North Sea industry going forward. ICoTA is pivotal in sharing this information and learning across all of the wells’ disciplines.

“I would also like to thank Callum Munro for his excellent leadership and contribution to ICoTA through 2012. Membership has increased and the organisation is gaining recognition as an established and specialised networking forum for all well intervention activities, both by service providers and oil companies alike.”

Mrs Murray added: “I am pleased to have been chosen as vice-chairman of ICoTA Europe. I want to help the organisation build on what it does best,

ensuring we continue to offer the excellent opportunities for knowledge sharing and innovation that are recognised across the industry.”

Inmiddels omvat deze voorraad draadeinden al zo’n vijftien verschillende materiaalsoorten. Uiteraard worden ook de bijbehorende moeren op voorraad gehouden.

Naast de standaard ASTM materiaalsoorten, is Bea Nederland B.V. een erkende specialist voor o.a. materiaal ASTM A453-660A en Super Duplex UNS S32760. Het laatst genoemde materiaal is vooral interessant voor de offshore industrie. Door de eigenschappen van dit materiaal is het uitstekend bestand tegen corrosie en de mechanische waarden zijn gelijkwaardig aan ASTM A193-B7. Een andere oplossing in de strijd tegen corrosie, is het aanbrengen van een oppervlaktebedekking op de materialen. Daar zijn vele varianten van op de markt, met elk hun eigen speci� eke eigenschappen en

de daarbij behorende voor- en nadelen. In principe kan Bea Nederland B.V. iedere, door de klant gespeci� ceerde, oppervlaktebedekking verzorgen. Op beperkte schaal wordt voorraad aangehouden van elektrolytisch en thermisch verzinkte studbolts en moeren.

Het Roosendaalse bedrijf levert vier basisproducten, te weten powerpacks voor hydraulische kracht, manifolds in alle gewenste afmetingen en uitvoeringen, speciale hydrauliekcilinders en miniboosters, een cilindrische drukvermeerderaar van Deense makelij. De manifolds bijvoorbeeld kunnen door HydraulIQ in co-schap worden ontwikkeld en vermarkt of volledig worden ontwikkeld.

“Wanneer er voldoende toekomstperspectief voor is, berekenen wij de ontwerpkosten niet volledig door aan de primaire opdrachtgever maar HydraulIQ investeert in het ontwerp om uiteindelijk series te mogen leveren”, zegt woordvoerder Remy Kwaijtaal. Doordat de engineering afwisselend plaatsvindt in Inventor respectievelijk Hydroman kunnen al in het ontwerpstadium mogelijk toekomstige gebreken worden opgespoord. “Bijvoorbeeld in wanddiktes”, geeft Kwaijtaal aan. Door het dynamische ontwerpproces kunnen fouten die tijdens de engineering of in prototypes aan het licht komen, snel worden gecorrigeerd.

En ten slotte: “Een manifold hoeft bij HydraulIQ niet rechthoekig te zijn. Indien de inbouwmaten erom vragen, maken we heel specifieke blokken, die precies in de toepassing passen. Bovendien kunnen we voor alle gewenste oppervlaktebehandelingen zorgen. Van vernikkelen tot anodiseren en zo voort”, aldus Remy Kwaijtaal. Overigens verzorgt HydraulIQ behalve het gehele hydraulische schema voor de ontwikkelde toepassing ook de opzet en

berekening van dat schema,

zodat een gehele installatie optimaal kan werken. Hierbij wordt de laatste stand der techniek gebruikt om een bedrijfszekere installatie te verkrijgen. HydraulIQ heeft een eigen service dienst van zo’n 15 monteurs met bijbehorende mobiele werkplaatsen. Zij kunnen zowel nationaal als internationaal worden ingezet.

PowerpacksEen ander doel van HydraulIQ is om powerpacks te ontwikkelen, die ruimschoots voldoen aan klantenwensen én die een belangrijk extra hebben, namelijk een slim ontwerp, dat kosten bespaart in de onderhoudsfase. De powerpacks kunnen stand alone zijn om hydraulische kracht te leveren op locatie of in een machine worden ingebouwd. De gebruikte materialen zijn uitsluitend afkomstig van A-leveranciers. De reden is dat reserveonderdelen eenvoudig en wereldwijd verkrijgbaar zijn. De frames kunnen volledig op klantspecificatie worden vervaardigd door de constructieafdeling. Voor aandrijving kan gekozen worden uit een elektrische aandrijving of een verbrandingsmotor in een vermogensbereik van 1 kW tot 750 kW. HydraulIQ is specialist in het ontwikkelen en produceren van units die moeten gaan draaien in ATEX omgevingen en units voor diverse klimaten en omgevingen. Units kunnen worden ontwikkeld voor extreme hitte (speciale olie, extra koelers voor zowel motor als hydrauliek) en voor extreme koude (tot -60 graden, voorverwarming van de tanks en de motor). Door de steeds strengere eisen wordt er tijdens het bouwproces ook maximaal aandacht aan gegeven aan zaken als Emissie & Geluid. Indien gewenst kan er met iedere unit een service contract

worden meegeleverd om zo het

maximale uit de unit te halen en preventief te kunnen anticiperen op problemen. “Er zijn voor cliënten verschillende opties bij verwerving zoals aankoop, huurkoop of lease waardoor de cliënt zelf zijn investering kan bepalen”, aldus Kwaijtaal.

BorstelmachineDaarnaast heeft HydraulIQ onlangs een onderwaterborstelmachine geïntroduceerd. Het betreft een machine waarmee duikers aanslag (pokken) van schepen afborstelen ter verlaging van de weerstand en daarmee het brandstofverbruik. De hydraulisch aangedreven borstelmachine zuigt zich door het draaien van de borstels tegen de onderkant van het schip aan. Daarmee worden ook de aandrijfwielen tegen de scheepshuid aangetrokken. Deze aangedreven wielen zorgen dat de machine zich over de scheepshuid kan verplaatsen. De snelheid en rijrichting worden gekozen met een op de machine opgebouwd ventiel.

Ook de aandrukkracht, of beter gezegd de afdrukkracht, is op de machine instelbaar doordat in de armen cilinders zijn ingebouwd waarvan de druk kan worden gevarieerd. De gehele machine is vervaardigd uit RVS316/RVS316L. Het powerpack bestaat uit een geluidgedempte dieselmotor (Hatz Silentpack) met een vermogen van 36 kW. De borstelmachine is met hydrauliek van Sauer Danfoss en Sun Hydraulics afgemonteerd en voorzien van een speciaal manifold.

Speciale hydrauliek cilindersHet dagelijks werk van HydraulIQ is het ontwerpen van speciale hydrauliekcilinders. “Wie een toepassing heeft waar hydrauliekcilinders

in gemonteerd moeten

worden, merkt dat wij meedenken om samen met de opdrachtgever diens idee om te zetten naar een ontwerp en een product. Afhankelijk van de afmetingen, levensduurverwachtingen en de geometrie zorgen wij voor een passende hydrauliekcilinder. We dimensioneren de cilinder aan de hand van de gebruikte werkdrukken en optredende krachten waarbij de uitdaging in speciale toepassingen ligt die wij zelf geheel ontwerpen”, vertelt Remy Kwaijtaal. Hij geeft ook enkele voorbeelden zoals het moeten engineering binnen een beperkte plaats, het toepassen van dubbel werkende telescopische cilinders of juist enkelwerkende telescopische cilinders. Ook is het werken met gelijkloopcilinders mogelijk, met cilinders met demping of extra demping, met doorboorde zuigerstangen, cilinders voor extreme omstandigheden (temperaturen of stof), cilinders met wegopnemers, extra hydraulische aansluitingen ten behoeve van commandosignalen of meetpunten, etc. Uiteraard wordt plaatsbepaling van de zuiger in de cilinder gedaan, een geïntegreerd manifoldblok met intelligentie op de cilinder toegepast, wordt er voorzien in extreem hoge drukken (700 bar) en daartoe een hoge drukpomp op de cilinder (Minibooster®) gemonteerd, etc.

“Hier hebben wij zeer veel ervaring mee om het optimale product te ontwikkelen voor allerlei deelmarkten”, besluit Kwaijtaal. Daarbij denkend aan offshore en onshore olie en gasindustrie, treinen, schepen, andere industriële toepassingen, automotive, etc.

The KNRM’s response time and service performance (average time to rescue location) are probably the highest of any SAR organisation around the globe, and at a relatively low cost. More improvements are on the way, however: the KNRM is proud to announce the next generation of fast all weather lifeboats: the NH 1816 Class.

On-scene Coordination Search & Rescue vesselWorking with a group of some of the best Dutch marine experts - TU Delft, TNO, Marin, Damen Shipyards and De Vries Lentsch Naval Architects - the KNRM has created the concept of an advanced ‘on-scene coordination search and rescue vessel’. Principal innovations

in hull design, ergonomics, communications and navigation systems, along with many other new features will give the NH 1816 Class far superior capabilities to any conventional lifeboat. Speed, range, ef� ciency, seaworthiness and safety are all aspects that have been fundamentally improved in this design, not to mention signi� cant upgrades in crew comfort and ease of maintenance. Vertical g-forces -45%The NH 1816 Class lifeboat – named after its sponsor, De Noordhollandsche 1816 - is a self-righting, fast, seaworthy monohull with aluminium hull, composite wheelhouse and a modi� ed Sea Axe Bow which cuts through waves, reducing vertical g-forces by 45% and enabling top speeds of over 30 knots, radically transforming seaworthiness. The Sea Axe was originally designed by prof. Lex Keuning (Delft University of Technology) and Damen Shipyards Group. Currently, the patented bow is used predominantly in Damen Fast Crew Suppliers, High Speed Support Vessels, Offshore Patrol Vessels and Fast Yacht Support vessels. In addition to the Axe Bow, the NH 1816 is out� tted with retractable rear � ns that can

be lowered for more course stability, or raised to give extra manoeuvrability. In the wheelhouse, state-of-the-art fully integrated electronics permit real-time data exchange for ship-to-shore communications (an earlier version of this system is already approved by the RNLI in the UK).

Crew working conditions have been considerably enhanced by not only limiting the “slamming” motion of the vessel, but also by a host of ergonomic features, such as specialised chairs, climate control, improved visibility and reduced vibration and noise levels.The vessel’s dimensions are generous, giving

extra space not only on deck, which can accommodate 125 people, but also in the engine room. This gives staff better access to machinery, improving maintenance conditions and effectiveness. ExportConstruction of the � rst NH 1816 Class vessel will start by the end of 2012, with the launch scheduled for the third quarter of 2013. Following sea trials, the KNRM will be offering NH 1816 Class lifeboats to other SAR and coastguard operations. They will be constructed by Damen Shipyards and its af� liates.

Damen Shipyards Group introduces its newly designed Damen AHTS 200, a versatile deepwa-ter Anchor Handling Tug Supplier able to operate in water depths in excess of 3,000 m. The AHTS 200 is the latest addition to the ongoing Damen Offshore Series.

The Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution – KNRM – enjoys a reputation for excellence in maritime search and rescue. It operates in one of the world’s busiest lo-cations, the North Sea, where over a thousand ships sail in any given 24 hours. To be able to cover all the emer-gency situations that arise within its area of operations, the KNRM has a dense coastal coverage of 44 lifeboat stations, all equipped with fast, all weather, self-righting lifeboats: one of the most modern and rugged fl eets anywhere. Now, the fl eet will be expanded with the NH 1816 Class.

Damen is currently investing heavily in designing state of the art vessels for several offshore sub-markets, noticeably the Offshore Support, Offshore Wind, (Seismic) Research and Transport & Installation industries. Backed by ample R&D and engineering capacity, its own construction yards, specialized partner yards and a rapid expanding service organisation, Damen feels con� dent that the chosen approach will be successful.

ResearchThe typical Damen design philosophy, featuring safety, functionality, standardisation, modularisation, ease of maintenance and overall quality, are found in the Damen AHTS 200. An extensive research

analysis was executed on hull optimization, sea keeping qualities, noise and vibration reduction, fuel oil consumption reduction, changing rules and regulations and client-needs and lessons-learned from other Damen designs. Innovative winch packageThe AHTS 200 includes a new and innovative winch arrangement which is quite decisive for the overall dimensions and layout of the vessel. For the development of this extensive winch package Damen teamed-up with Huisman Equipment (The Netherlands), which specializes in heavy lift and deepwater cranes, winches and drilling equipment. The electrically driven winches resulting from this cooperation may be considered an innovative approach, as the market is traditionally dominated by low-pressure hydraulics. The electrical-drive winches provide a clean, green, economical, functional and safe solution for the anticipated operations.

PropulsionThe vessel is suited to generate 200-250 t Bollard Pull and is � tted with engines in a father-son layout, featuring twin-in

single-out gearboxes driving CP propellers in a nozzle. High performance � ap-type rudders � tted to rotary vane steering gears facilitate a high degree of manoeuvrability supported by ample side thrust capacity, including tunnel thrusters as well as retractable thrusters in fore and aft ship. Outfi tting optionsForward of the winches ample space has been reserved for the

� tting of a high-end ROV system with the possibility of launching through a side door. The high beam AHTS could serve as a suitable platform for mounting a subsea construction crane. The design can easily be upgraded with dedicated anti-heeling systems, moon pools and sophisticated diving systems. AccommodationThe comfortable accommodation can host up to 45 persons in

single and double cabins � tted according to the Damen Business or Executive Line comprising modern and durable materials. Special attention is paid to suf� cient natural lighting through maximum-sized windows. State-of-the-art infotainment systems, offering multiple levels of data communication, support the functionality and comfort of the vessel.

Sustainable and explosion proof; new generation � oodlightsRecently, a new explosion proof lighting product was developed as an alternative for the fl oodlights with high pressure discharge lamp. Glamox Aqua Signal produces the FL60 and FX60 (EX version), based on LED technologies. The fl oodlights consist of one, two, three or four modules, and every module uses only 40W. Next to a low power consumption, also the long lifespan makes this lighting product sustainable: the FL60 and FX60 have a lifespan of 110,000 hours.

Except for the sustainability of the FL60 and FX60, thanks to their low power consumption and long lifespan, the � oodlights bene� t from an excellent lighting quality. Both the light output and the colour scale surpass the already powerful high pressure

IPPN Measurements & Controls.

Er zijn aandrijf technische toepassingen waarbij het uiterste van de techniek wordt gevraagd. Een van deze toepassingen is het zeer nauwkeurig leggen van drijvende tunnelsegmenten die vanaf pontons op bewegend zeewater worden afgezonken. Door een zeer nauwe samenwerking tussen Marotechniek en VCI is ook dit project succesvol afgerond.

Door Marotechniek is een hijsapplicatie geleverd om tunnel segmenten van 135mx25mx9m te laten afzinken in de uitmonding van de Coatzacoalcos rivier in

Mexico. De installatie bestaat uit een viertal lieren met een trekkracht van 100 ton en een houdt kracht van 150ton per lier. Alle lieren lopen plc gecontroleerd exact synchroon en worden bediend d.m.v een tweetal radiogra� sche systemen waarop de gebruiker op een display per lier het gewicht en de uitgevierde lengte kabel kan a� ezen.

Op een centrale plek in de controle kamer heeft de afzinkspecialist alle gegevens in één oogopslag zichtbaar op een touch screen. De communicatie tussen de twee afzinkpontons is tot stand gebracht d.m.v. een krachtige pro� bus zender.

De frequentieregelaars zijn voorzien van encoder-, pro� bus kaarten en is v.z.v. remchoppers. Deze remchoppers zijn aangesloten op remweerstanden, die op hum beurt zijn uitgerust

met PT100 elementen om de tempratuur tijdens het leggen nauwkeurig in de gaten te kunnen houden. De gehele installatie is gekeurd en afgenomen door de TüV, welke ook bij het engineeringtraject nauw betrokken was.

Om deze applicatie te kunnen bouwen heeft Marotechniek gebruikgemaakt van oa: incrementaal encoders t.b.v. closed loop en synchroon loop regeling, absoluut encoders tbv uitgevierde lengte kabel te meten , dubbele loadcellen t.b.v. kracht meting, pro� bus zender t.b.v. communicatie onderling, radiogra� sch veiligheid systeem t.b.v. de bediening, GSM modem om vanaf Nederland online service te kunnen verlenen.

Tijdens de inbedrijfstelling van de installatie dienden nog een aantal parameters in de regelaars

verder te worden ingesteld om een optimaal resultaat te kunnen waarborgen. Marotechniek is een jong en dynamisch bedrijf gevestigd in Zutphen en opgericht door Martin Bossenbroek en Rob Molenaar. Beide hebben met meer dan 20 jaar ervaring in lieren, mechanische- en elektrische aandrijftechniek en besturingen voor de maritieme- en bagger industrie.

Marotechniek beschikt over een eigen productie-, assemblage- en reparatie werkplaats. In de engineeringsafdeling worden met 3-D CAD-systeem de lieren en baggerpompaandrijvingen ontworpen. Elektrische schema’s worden vervaardigd met EPLAN-systeem. Bij Marotechniek staat de service afdeling 24 uur per dag paraat. Door Marotechniek worden ook reparaties en inspecties wereldwijd uitgevoerd.

Het Marotechniek leveringsprogramma bestaat uit:- Lieren. - Baggerpomp aandrijvingen.- KA pompverdeler tandwielkasten. - Elektrische besturingen, frequentieregelaars , autoamtiseringen en panelenbouw. - Reparatie en service.
