I expected a Grade 4-5 trail (saw it on the web), but now after I did this trail all I can say is..WOW.. it was so cool! We travelled in on the Saturday morning. Arrived on time to depart from the campsite area and I took the second place in the convoy. I had never driven the trail before, so I had no idea what to expect. The first section was sand but not that challenging because of the rainy weather. I believe this will be a very different story on a hot and dry summer’s day! When we hit the rocky sections, my wife started to say words like.. "this is not funny" and "this stresses me out" Oh and I also heard something like.."it can't get worse than this" I must admit that it was hard work to make sure that I did not damage the rims against the rocks. When Stephen stopped and warned me not to turn right if I was not ready for extreme fun, my smile got bigger, and at this point I only saw 4Low, rocks and more rocks. I wanted to take the escape route but my Jeep turned right and this was where all the fun began. In the 1st few hundred meters I realized for the 1st time what is meant by Grade4 and more. Liezel used words never used before, and I smiled like never before. It is difficult for my wife to understand how I can say "this is so relaxing" doing this when I'm supposed to be stressed out? (A Jeep thing maybe?) At this point I knew why I bought this Jeep. When we thought the hectic part was over Liezel saw the "Steps" in front and no way to turn back. I must admit that I also zipped my lip when I saw this wall of steps in front. Because there was no place to turn around I had to get up there! We got out and carefully planned where and how to tackle this obstacle. I started packing rocks to make some of the steps look less steeper. I stopped when someone shouted. Do you want to tar the road up here?Well I got in my Jeep and then Stephen said that I must put on all the buttons available. I did and then I left it all to the Jeep. It crawled up there on idle revs. My biggest concern was the front bumper, but it cleared all the rocks. The next 60 meters I went over a few rocks, and Yes...I scratched a rim here. But it happens when you have too much confidence after crawling up the steps and when you do not plan your obstacle. I must say that I learned quickly from the more advanced drivers in the club that you have to walk the obstacle 1st, then plan and drive it “The adventure will last a Lifetime! Offroad4x4 Club

out. I did this with the steps, and that was the reason why it was so easy, but I did not do this with the next obstacle just a few minutes later, and I still have the evidence on the rim. This is a lesson for all to learn, because these mistakes can cost you much more than just a scratch.

We really enjoyed the trail and I can recommend it to all the club members. If you ask me what made the day such a huge success? Then my answer is Mark and Stephen. Thanks to you for a great outing, and excellent organization and I believe that everyone enjoyed this weekend!

Jeep Wrangler Topless Day 19th May 2012

It was a cold and wet Saturday morning as 47 vehicles consisting of Wranglers, Willys, SVM and CJ’s and their excited owners arrived at Century City for the Annual Wrangler Go Topless Day event. Hot Coffee and Cake was on hand from Mugg n Bean Century City- a big thank you to Monica and Rudi for sponsoring this.

We all collected our Go Topless T Shirts from Anna Mary and attended a short driver’s talk from Craig. A Group photo was taken of all outside the dealership before departing for Bloubergstrand.

The weather was bleak as we departed with Ian in the lead and all 47 vehicles travelling in convoy with lights on. The passing vehicles hooted in support for our brave convoy departing Century City. The rain poured down just ahead of us as we parked on Otto Du Plessis awaiting for the convoy to catch up.

We arrived at Bloubergstrand and lined up for a group photo. The sun came out and all braved a smile as

photos were taken and the participants chatted among themsleves.

The convoy departed through Melkbos to eventually arrive at Melkbos4x4. The remainder of the Jeep drivers joined us here and in total 52 Jeeps took part in a fun day of 4x4ing.

All deflated tyres and broke into three groups of 12-15 vehicles and took off to drive the various routes at Melkbos4x4.

Comnet Radio provided handheld radios for the day allowing the various groups to be in constant communication with each other and ensuring the various obstacles where safely driven, If you are needing a radio for your vehicle please contact Jarryd Owen at http://www.comnetradio.com/

Marianca and Anna Mary stayed behind and ensured the braai fires were lite and ready for all to Braai on when they returned.

Mark managed the pit and ensured organized chaos and great spectator value was created. All those who chose to test their vehicles and themselves in the pit all came out with great smiles.

More photos can be seen on our facebook page:
